Great taste, limited options, no alterations

Three options available Watermelon tostadas, El Vegan taco and Nachos (vegan). All three were great, high quality taste. But other menu items could easily have been vegan (incl. two vegetarian tacos, ie. leave off cheese) but there were no alterations.

Updated from previous review on 2024-05-24

Pros: Great flavours , Vegan nachos (incl. cheese sauce), Lots of gluten free options

Cons: No alterations would be made , More items on menu could easily be vegan

Good but only a few vegan options

Our vegan options were delicious but there were only a few available. Contrary to what others have previously said, they informed use they could only provide the options listed as vegan on the menu. I wanted the quesadilla but they refused to make it without cheese. Bizarre! What we had was delicious though.

Pros: Delicious vegan options , Tasty, Attentive staff

Cons: Only a few vegan options (3), Refused to veganise other dishes, Not many non alcoholic drinks on offer

Pass

Very expensive for small portions. Nice that there’s vegan options but I wouldn’t recommend.

Good food but way overpriced

Sorry but $28 for nachos? That’s about $10 too high for what you get here.

We had the nachos and two tacos to share. Both vegan tacos were really good, but small and, again, overpriced at $8 each. Nachos were also really good but not worth the price tag.

On the plus side, servers were knowledgeable about what was vegan and ordering was simple. They were very crowded so make a reservation!

To sum up - really good food, good flavors, but not worth the $ IMO

Highlight of our trip

I don’t even really like mexican food but this was incredible. The drinks and food are some of the best I’ve ever had. Great atmosphere and staff. Make sure to book online.

Pros: Amazing food , Amazing drinks

Highly recommend

Had enough options that could be veganised. The corn riblets are a food item I never knew I needed in my life! They are a MUST HAVE! The staff were highly accommodating for g.f vegan options. We weren't particularly hungry so just also shared a guacamole and homemade tortilla chips and a cranberry sangria. A definite must visit.

Pros: Corn riblets, Multiple vegan options , G.f vegan options

Delicious mexican and great staff

We had a few of the dishes here and they were all delicious. We had the nachos for an entree and completely finished the plate off.

Our mains were the fajitas and tacos. Both were asking but the fajitas were the best for me. We'll be back for sure when we visit Port Douglas again soon.

Pros: Lots of the menu can be made vegan, Lots of beer options

Creative vegan options

Mexican cuisine is not my favourite food but this place changed all that. Loved the pumpkin tostado, guacamole, eggplant miso taco and vegan burrito. Amazing!!!!! Totally recommend. So full of flavour. Go hungry when you eat at this place as portions are decent sizes.

Pros: Excellent vegan options , Relaxed dining atmosphere, Excellent service

Cons: N/A

The Mexican had delicious nachos and fajitas and many other dishes that could be made vegan! Felt a little rushed but overall it was yummy and in a place were options are limited it’s a good option.

Pros: All mains can be made vegan , Great drinks too!

Cons: You made need to book in busy periods, Felt a little rushed by staff, Little pricey

Real flavour & scrumptious!

We had an awesome dinner here. It was so nice to have tonnes of flavour in our food after our time in far North Queensland. We had the burritos which had lots of yummy stuff including lentils and beans, as well as the blackened veggies to start and a delicious cocktail. Worth stopping here when in FNQ.

Pros: Amazing flavours, Well labelled vegan options, Lovely friendly staff

AUTHENTIC AMAZING central american food.

Its hard to come by refried beans and corn tortillas that authentically resemble that of central america... but this place TOTALLY nails it. Every time i eat there i am taken back to my time in Mexico and guatemala. My favourite order is as follows: side of refried beans and rice, guacamole, corn tortillas and vegetables. Order that and trust me. This place is amazing. Must book during peak season.

Pros: Lots of Vegan Options, Authentic mexican (not entirely westernised!), Refried Beans!!!

Place rules. Stop by, it’s worth it

They made a stock side like rice and beans taste fantastically and the two taco’s options that are meat free are delicious. There’s a burrito option I didn’t try but I bet it’s amazing.

Pros: Handful of great options

Burrito not worth $23

After the glowing reviews of the burrito, we were shocked it was $23 of just plain rice and beans. Definitely one of the least tasty we have tried and far too pricey. Vegan chips and dips were most tasty thing we had.

Pros: Waitress lovely and knowledgeable about vegan req

Cons: Too pricey for what it was, Flavours too bland.

Yummy vegan options

As others have mentioned, they are flexible with a few vegetarian options making them into vegan. I had the super vegan burrito which was fab...so tasty that you wonder what needed to bother being added to make it not vegan.

Pros: “Veganised” items are not sacrificing quality, Good atmosphere , Friendly staff

Cons: Not really enough vegan options

Amazing

Ordered the burrito and asked for it vegan, with added guac, corn and pico de Gallo. Honestly the best vegan burrito I have had, so filling and flavourful. The staff are very knowledgeable too so just ask if any dish can be veganised

Pros: Delicious for a Omni restaurant, Many options

Cons: A little pricey

Accommodating and delicious

We had a table of three vegans and one meat eaters and the waiters were great. The burritos were huge(!) and the tacos were really big considering they’re a single tapas not a meal. Everything was ridiculously good, especially the corn chips and sangria. We’ll be going back without a doubt

Pros: Vegan options are actual meals , Ridiculously tasty, You can shout the kitchen staff drinks

Cons: Most tapas are meat based

Great Mexican food and freindly staff

The Mexican is a wonderful little place in Port Douglas for vegans to eat.
The staff is very friendly and well versed in veganising their menu. The guac is great and the fajitas and burritos are delicious!
Portions are quite sizeable and sharing is recommended.
It's better to call ahead or go by the evening before to make reservations if you want to have a seat, as they get quite busy.
I can further recommend the non alcoholic cocktails, very tasty and go well with their menu :)

Pros: Friendly and knowledgeable staff, Many options, Big portions

Cons: Usually packed

Vegan friendly Mexican in Port Douglas!

This cute little Mexican joint isn't your average Mexican restaurant.

The meals are fresh, full of flavour and so many options to veganise.

Let the waitress know your requirements and they will point all of the options out to you!
