Thank goodness for The Mad Batter! - Edit
It is so refreshing and appreciating to go to a restaurant and order something that is 100% VEGAN!! I don't have to order something and take more than half of the ingredients out to make it vegan. Restaurants should not be allowed to be on this site unless they serve at least one 100% vegan item. I really enjoy The Mad Batter yearlong. The menu has numerous vegan items and the atmosphere is nice. I love sitting on the porch. My husband and I have tried everything that is vegan, the crab cakes and wings are our favorites. I really would love to give them 5 stars for being the best choice in Cape May County, NJ for vegan dining. This is a great accomplishment in this "vegan desert " area.

Best vegan options in Cape May - Edit
Cape May is tough for vegans so 5 stars right away. Offers multiple vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast lunch and dinner. Had the vegan (hearts of palm and chick pea) crab cake on my last visit served with vegan remoulade. Very good. Don’t expect gourmet, it’s a casual restaurant with prime location beach restaurant prices.

One of my favorites! - Edit
I love The Mad Batter - I’d give 5 stars if I could! The vegan “crab” cake is wonderful, and so are the vegan nachos. UPDATE: I am continually impressed by The Mad Batter - I’ve since tried the vegan pizza, vegan mac & cheese, and vegan tostadas, and all 3 were phenomenal.

Overrated - Edit
I was excited to try this place. They have good decor and vegan options. We got nachos(disappointing), fries (great&cheap), sweet potato fries (great&cheap), vegan wings (spicy, nothing like wings, didn’t love), and my partner got traditional dairy pizza which he said was bland and disappointing. I also got a bloody mary which is labeled vegan on the menu. I didn’t like it but that’s a personal thing, never tried one before. I won’t go here again.

Great spot to eat! - Edit
We loved our time at the Mad Batter yesterday! I appreciate their vegan menus on the main menu. They have lots of dining areas each with a different vibe. They were able to put us in the back in the garden when we asked. Our server Jen was absolutely fantastic. The food was tasty and so were the mimosas!

A good option when dining with non-vegan people! - Edit
I can't say this has been my favorite vegan food experience. The menu provided many options to choose from. I ordered the vegan nachos, vegan pizza, the seitan hot wings, and an order of fries. What I can say is the portions are huge! The taste overall was not always spot on, sometimes even lacking in flavor. I feel like the Vegan Pizza lacked direction - it felt like if you combined the idea of a white slice, a "chicken" "bacon" ranch and a veggie slice together. Would like to return to try some of their other menu items as I was definitely intrigued by the white bean raviolis as well as the vegan crab cakes. I would imagine due to the large menu this would be a great place to eat with people that are not vegan/vegetarian because there's something for everyone on the menu.

Good food, but too expensive!! - Edit
We went twice - once for dinner and once for lunch.
Read moreGenerally good food, but the dinner entrees are over $30 and absolutely not worth the cost. This is a vacation town so I assume that’s why dinner is so expensive. “Crab” cakes are good. Delicious cocktails. The vegan ravioli was our least favorite since it had that processed fake vegan store-bought taste.
Lunch prices are more commensurate with the quality. The “crab” cake sandwich and vegan BLT were good.
The wing appetizers are also reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! I would return just for these and a cocktail.
Inside was a little snug for a covid19 environment but there is also patio seating with socially distant tables. Good service.

Nice shaded outdoor with great “crab cakes” - Edit
So cute! Nice semi outdoor but shaded area perfect for a hot 2020 summer meal and staying safe from covid. I’ve tried about 4 different types of vegan “crab” cakes now and they had the best I’ve had. I also had the vegan BLT.

Not the best - Edit
We were excited to find so many vegan options in on a menu in Cape May. We were staying right down the street from the restaurant and saw many people waiting on line each day. We finally went for dinner and we were kind of disappointed. The bill was very high and none of us were really excited by the food. The pizza crust was not home made, ravioli was gummy and "steak" did not have a favorable consistency.. the crab cake (my opinion but no one else at the table agreed) was great and the nachos were not bad. I don't mind paying $33 for an amazing meal, when I ate meat in would pay that for a real crab cake and steak, but this.... Eh. I appreciate they were trying to cater to vegans but I think it can be better, esp. for that price.

Great food and good options - Edit
Cute restaurant to eat at with a good selection of vegan food . For breakfast I had the BLT which came with fruit. Very filling and delicious. Came back for diner cause Cape May is hard to find vegan food. Ordered the white bean raviolis. Again, delicious! I came with my husband and daughter who are non vegans and they loved their meals too. On the pricey side, but worth the money.

Really good food + vegan options - Edit
The crab cake and the sauce that went with it was DIVINE! I almost wish I ordered the dish with 2 of them because I wanted more. The vegan steak wasn’t the best in my opinion, too well done on the outside but mushy on the inside. Cute outdoor seating for COVID. Lots of great options. I will definitely come here again!

One of our favorite spots - Edit
They have one of the best offerings for lunch and dinner in Cape May when it comes to vegan options. Vegan pizza, seitan buffalo wings, nachos, crabless cakes, white bean ravioli, just to name a few! They even have some great vegan options for brunch as well. Also they usually have your to-go orders ready in like 15-20 minutes, which is fantastic!

Due to Covid-19 the restaurant is only doing take out for now. Pleasant curbside service. Vegan granola and fruit bowl. This is a small fruit bowl 😳 not sure how much fruit is in the large. A number of vegan options for breakfast. Vegan granola with almond milk, fresh fruit bowl, tofu scramble, tostados.

Pretty much the only game in town when it comes to vegan food. The food isnt bad. A bit pricey. Heads up...their home fries have butter in them (or so I was told by my waiter).

There is a whole vegan section in the back of the menu as well as some vegan selections through out the menu. We started with the nachos. I had the white bean ravioli, which was delicious! My husband had the beyond meat burger. Then for dessert there was a vegan chocolate cake; that was also yummy!

Food kinda sucks - Edit
I was so looking forward to this restaurant, for months actually. I get to Cape May and planned our meal there. My vegan dish tasted good for the first few bites, then I began to notice rotted vegetables on my plate. And the same wilted salad in my tostada. I felt as though I was going to vomit for the next hour after leaving. How dare they serve rotting food and charge $85.

Go for breakfast or lunch - Edit
The food was incredible and we had a reasonable wait time (15 minutes). We ordered the nachos and pizza, and added seitan to both. The nachos were very good- I loved the house cheddar cheese sauce, fresh jalapeños, and vegan sour cream! The salsa could be spicier but the fresh jalapeños more than make up for it. The pizza came with a house white sauce and violife cheese. My partner really liked it. Because we added seitan, it was pretty pricey ($18/ plate). However, both entrees could have easily fed two adults- the portions are HUGE. We will definitely be coming back if we're ever in town again!

The BLT Breakfast sandwich is full of flavor and perfectly filling. Plus I love vegan cream cheese so I knew I would like it. Also the seitan wings are very good and definelty a two-person dish (or leftovers for yourself). The wings had just the right amount of sauce without being too spicy.
