Best vegan restaurant I've ever been to - Edit
Some non-vegans can't understand why a vegan would want fake meat. For me, it goes back to my family of origin and what I ate growing up. Loopy leaf has exact replicas of the foods I remember (reuben, tuna sub, burgers) cooked/prepared in a way that is flawless. The burgers are char-broiled, the subs have lots of added vegetables, the salads are full of fresh ingredients. The service at Loopy Leaf is friendly and quick and the food is wonderful. What more could you want?

I was a fan of owner/chef Sondra Zahn’s first restaurant in Harper’s Ferry when I lived in that area -- and so, on a road trip from PA to KY, I made a point of stopping in Charleston WV for a meal here at Loopy Leaf. So glad I did! The menu is extensive and eclectic — dozens of salads, ramen bowls, tacos, and sandwiches of all types. Many dishes are made with mock meat, others with minimally processed ingredients -- and portions are generous. It's a fun, casual environment, and the team is warm and welcoming. I went for the BBQ Tacos made with Kentucky Bourbon BBQ jackfruit -- yum!

Super friendly hard working ladies and great ambiance. The menu was jam packed and all vegan. I got the chx bacon avocado and I had to examine and make sure therr was no meat because the chx and bacon tastes real. Want one of these at home! Don't miss it!

This was by far the highlight of my weekend in Charleston! I took three omni friends and we all loved our food! We shared a Cuban sandwich special. I’m not sure if they make their seitan in house, but everyone agreed it was great. I had a chicken ranch salad which was massive and delicious, and the rest of the group had ramen, black bean tacos, and a massive beyond burger. We also took some desserts home and loved everything. The only miss for me was the mac and cheese. It was a little bland and dry, though that didn’t keep me from eating it! They also have draft beer, lots of other beverages, and great service. And their menu is massive and they also have breakfast, so don’t go by what’s on their website

Read moreIt was a huge disappointment when we got to the doors and they were locked as a big sign displayed that they close at 8. It was 7:31 when we got there. A kid who worked there came out and told us they were cleaning and closing. We mentioned the 8 o’clock and they just responded with a, “Yeah…” Couldn’t even give us the comfort of a fabricated reason why. Couldn’t even offer us takeout. Insult was added to injury when we saw a cop inside, eating his meal.
So we walked to Black Sheep, instead. Really wanted to try this place, and always try to support 100% vegan spaces when the option is available. Oh, well.
On my Google review about this, the owner responded with, “We have a no hate policy ❤️.” Not only do I not understand what this reply meant, but it offered no apology or explanation. That sucks and I will now never step foot in this place.

One of our favorite road trip stops! - Edit
We were passing through Charleston on a road trip and are so glad we stopped here! The food was so delicious that we dined in and got more food to go. Our favorite sandwich was the Chicken Bacon Avocado and the cookies and cookie sandwiches were fantastic! The staff was also so sweet and friendly! Definitely a must visit!

Passing through Charleston - Edit
The Loopy Leaf was a great Happy Cow find while traveling along 64. I asked the staff what they recommend and before I could even finished was told the Italian Hoagie. How could I argue that confidence?! And oh was I happy I listened. The Italian hoagie is perfection, one half is very feeling and the taste is just pleasing the whole way through.

I loved everything about my visit! A beautiful restaurant located in the heart of Charleston, WV. This place literally stole my heart. The food is out of this world! Fresh! I had a bacon cheese burger, pasta salad, pretzel, grapefruit ginseng beverage and was given a complimentary Mac n Cheeze that was sooooo delicious! I brought a deconstructed philly cheese steak home for my man and it was literally one of the best things he's ever tasted! I wanted one of everything, seriously! So tasty and no beings were harmed in the making. 💚🌿🌱
Read moreI brought a chocolate bar all the way from Virgina Beach from the owner of Happy Pastures (such an excellent vegan deli, don't miss it!) When I presented the chocolate bar to the owner I was rewarded with an amazing hug that I needed oh-so-much. The owner is one of the most beautiful people I've EVER met. She really, really blew me away with her generosity, kindness and support. I am coming from Wisconsin with almost no fully vegan restaurants. I have not one vegan friend. I expressed this to the owner and she told me "you now have a vegan friend". 🥲 She inspired me to really start looking into opening up my own vegan establishment here in Wisconsin. She and the owner in Virginia Beach promised to come to my opening. This is the motivation I needed and was missing. What a beautiful soul! 💜

Fabulous Vegan Lunch - Edit
We found the Lucky Leaf on Happy Cow while driving from Virginia Beach to Lexington, KY. Although I’ve been aware that downtown Charleston, WV had a vegan restaurant, usually to save time, we just grab a fast food bean burrito or veggie sub along the highway. Today, we had slightly more time than usual and decided to be adventurous. What a payoff! The location was east to find. The food was wonderful. And the service was quick, even though we arrived right close to noon.
Read moreMy husband and I each ordered the personal nachos and had impossible beef added. They were generous-sized portions that were delicious. My husband added Mac & cheese, and I added soup. We were happy with these sides as well. The slaw and ramen also looked good. People near us ordered subs that were large and tasty-looking.
We will try to make The Lucky Leaf a regular when we drive through!
