Serves meat, vegan options available. Chinese restaurant with a variety of vegan items among the vegetarian options. Specify vegan and no egg when ordering. Reported closed November 2021.
The best place for vegan Chinese food I have found so far in the mid-Hudson Valley and near Catskills. The restaurant menu lists vegetarian items and advises you to tell your server if you are vegan. I was provided very helpful guidance in making my selection. The setting is beautiful, with floor-to-ceiling windows revealing a wooded, creek-side setting. Masks were required inside. The "Vegetarian Specialties" and "Vegetables" sections of the menu listed 27 entrees in all. I suspect most were vegan. (Some dish descriptions mention eggs.) I greatly enjoyed the Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings (an appetizer) and Buddhist Delight (with rice omitted from the latter because of the reviewer's concern with toxicity in rice in recent years due to soil contamination). Other veg menu options included, for example, Chinese Mixed Greens, Crispy Vegetarian Eel, and Steamed Mixed Vegetables with sauce on the side. I would have preferred a menu with a symbol or label for vegan items. The Little Bear also serves some Thai specialties, but none are vegetarian. A very enjoyable visit with tasty food and many nice amenities such as wait service and cloth napkins. I'm sad to have missed this place for so many years! Located the rustic Woodstock hamlet of Bearsville, along with a tavern and entertainment venues.
