So so - Edit
We got chilli soya. Portions were big but after a few mouthfuls it tasted very samey (the typical frozen soya aftertaste) and I just couldn't stand anymore. Not much more of a mix in flavour.
Read moreHad to remind them not to put sour cream in and disappointed no vegan alternative as needed imo.
I sat facing a 'tin' wall and the constant changing lights reflecting off it, plus the loud music was a sensory overload.
Didn't help there was a fight in the toilet between staff and a drug user, so couldn't use the loo due to crac4 having been taken.
The front of house was polite but the thought of going back here is an instant nope for me.
Shame.
Pros: Big portions
Cons: Nasty aftertaste, Environment was too overwhelming , Had to remind to remove non vegan items

Nice :) - Edit
I like the Hungry Mexican! I think it’s good value and the burrito is tasty. Portion is very big! I’ve had the chilli soya chips before and the chocolate cake dessert and both are nice. Cocktails are lovely

Good vegan options - Edit
Got the nachos made vegan and soy meat fajitas. The nachos were just okay but the fajitas were delicious! Loved having a vegan meat option rather than just vegetables. Margaritas were also yum.

Cool place - Edit
To be honest, I hate the music in here, but we had our mind set on mexican food so we stayed. I had a burrito that could have had more flavours and heat, but definitly okay. My three non-vegan friends was happy with their food. Great drinks.

Good but not amazing - Edit
It’s great to see a couple of vegan options in the menu, but I wasn’t impressed by the taste. It’s good, but it could be easily delicious if they added more ingredients to the dishes. Our Enfrijolada was basically a dough filled with minced soya and a sauce of beans and I think it lacked flavour.

Check your order! - Edit
I ordered a burrito and plain fries. Food came out quickly and portion size was good (fries weren’t needed). When I cut the burrito in half (to double check after reading previous reviews), I could see it had some sort of white sauce, presumably sour cream. When I questioned it, I was told they would check with the chef. 5 minutes later I was told they do have a white vegan cheese but they’d make another to be sure. My second burrito came out, and there was no ‘white vegan cheese’ on it a second time so I can only assume it was sour cream. Everything was really bland, and the burrito tasted of nothing but spice. Really disappointed!

Lots of options - Edit
Myself and a vegan pal shared grande vegan nachos and the cheesy fries with chilli soya - both were delicious and we were stuffed afterwards. Food came really quickly too.

Dreadful - Edit
Vegan seven years and they fed me a meat burrito TWICE. We were waiting over an hour for our meals, they were severely understaffed, both burritos were lukewarm on the inside too? My friend and I left after they said I wasn’t going to be charged for the burritos?? Like I didn’t order them?? Don’t recommend for anyone vegan or anyone who needs to eat within the hour.

It took more than one hour and a half to prepare a single burrito. I almost gave up and left the place. Even the drinks too a lot to be served

Great food and vibe - Edit
The hungry Mexican was fabulous! The staff were all really friendly, they made ordering vegan stuff super simple. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant overall, the music choice was excellent. I got a burrito with plantain, it was delicious! I felt it was reasonably priced, and I would love to try more of the menu!

okay, but nothing special - Edit
I was really hungry that night. When I entered, the restaurant was already packed. So I had to sit in the basement. Then it took half an eternity for the food to arrive because there was far too little staff. the three tacos were tasty, but nothing special. Unfortunately, I wasn't really full either, but since the tacos were already expensive, I decided to leave. The menu was also confusing. It seems to be more popular for the cocktails.

Vegan options of nearly everything, we had a soy chilli chimichanga and jackfruit enchiladas, big portions and really tasty. Special mention for the awesome strawberry margaritas!! The restaurant is teeny but a great atmosphere and nice staff, well worth seeking out

Excellent food! Great choice - Edit
Visited early evening and the place was buzzing with atmosphere. Could choose vegan mince, jackfruit or plantain as the protein so have almost any dish vegan. Had the mince in stuffed aubergine to start and a plaintain burrito for mains. Both so tasty good size portions. Will def return.

Maybe it's not a true mexican food, but the portions are huge and the food is very comforting. They adapt all the dishes to vegan alternatives, using soya meat and vegan chese.

Authentic food and amazing vegan options - Edit
Almost all of the options can be made vegan with either soya mince/chunks or plantain as meat replacement. I had the fajitas (which are vegan without the sour cream) with soya chunks and it was delicious. Very generous portions and friendly staff. Would also highly recommend the homemade lemonade!

Would have given 5 if possible!! Food was absolutely amazing and great vegan options. Had a plantain starter which was amazing, I had corn tacos with jackfruit which were super tasty but did fall apart because they got a bit soggy. My boyfriend had the plantain burrito which he said was ‘amazing, perfect, really good’. Great portion sizes, lovely staff!

Best Mexican in Dublin - Edit
The Hungry Mexican has been a favourite of mine since it was in the back of Bodkin's on Bolton Street. Now they're on the quays, they're always busier but the food hasn't suffered and they've added to their vegan options. All dishes can be adapted with soya mince, chunks, plantain or jackfruit, and vegan cheese. All available with a range of salsas from very mild to red hot habanero. Owners themselves are vegetarian/vegan so always out a lot of care into their vegan options.

Service here is really slow. Waitresses all 3 times I've been here were not attentive at all and some of them not super friendly either.

It gets quite busy here at weekend nights but the atmosphere is nice and the drinks quite big.

Cons: Bad service, Owners always seem to stand around and scowl, Seems a bit dingy at times
