Delicious Portabello Sandwich - Edit
The Portabello sandwich hit the spot after a hike. They were out of the red potatoes for a side so I ordered the vegan coleslaw and it was deli too and with a kick spiciness! I also saw a Tofu Scramble under breakfast.

Not a ton of vegetarian and vegan options, but what they do have is very good. - Edit
The portobello sandwich is first rate and I can't recommend it enough. Toasted rye bread, vegan mayo, purple onions, sprouts... really great. Red potatoes were my chosen side. Coffee drinks are my recommendation, too. Great service and a charming location. Leave it to a college town to do this right. It's well worth the trip off I-90 if like me, you're just passing through.

Delicious food, lots of veggie options - Edit
I wanted to give this 5 stars, but I see that’s reserved only for fully veg places:). The tofu sandwich and veggie sandwiches were both amazing. Cute patio and great service.

Vegan options in Butte Montana - Edit
Previous owners were more vegan focused and always had delicious baked goods in the front case. New owners stopped that but still honor vegan items on the menu — tofu scramble, vegan pancakes, vegan milks for drinks— very grateful for the options and they are delicious! Just preferred previous owners, bc they also had smoothies and more of a focus on vegan food. Now, it feels like they honor that bc of previous reputation, but are not as passionate about it.

Good road trip option - Edit
Absolutely appreciated this cute, local breakfast & lunch restaurant for our road trip! There are a couple clearly vegan options (such as vegan chocolate cake) and many vegetarian options that can easily be made vegan! The restaurant has a great location & good vibes; I would have loved to have more time to spend and hangout, and to have tried their breakfast, but I did enjoy my veggie sandwich. I think the meal & side portions could have been bigger for the price, but still tasty

Great Vegan Options - Edit
Hummingbird offers great options for a vegan living in Butte. Some restaurants will accomodate me, however its a real struggle. I get bored with salads. Hummingbirds food is always delicious and fresh. All the server are great, Alisha is the absolute best. #Veganuary

Charming Breakfast Spot - Edit
First stop on our eating trip to Bellingham- The Hummingbird Cafe in Butte. The patio is darling, the breakfast options were welcome, and the server was helpful in identifying vegan items. The potatoes were amazing! The scramble earned various reviews from our group ranging from 4/10-9/10, mainly based on our preference for more crumbled tofu and garlic seasoning. Still, it was yummy. This was an excellent maiden meal, and we will surely be back in the future. ❤️

Small, quaint cafe with vegan options for me and omni options for my husband. I had the breakfast burrito with tofu scramble and veggie sausage, along with vegan pancakes. Everything was delicious! I would visit again if ever in Butte.

Awesome vegan and veg options, tasty food and friendly staff - Edit
Visited the Hummingbird on our way to Glacier (seems like everyone does this!) after a week in a small town in southern Montana where we have no access to vegan/veg food— even the grocery store sells wilted produce! To say this place felt like an oasis is an understatement. I had the vegan pancakes and a side of vegan sausage (get two!) and both were delicious. My husband got the beyond (impossible? can't remember) burger and loved the whole grain mustard and sprouts that were served with it. We wish we were staying closer to butte so we could go back!

Sandwich heaven! - Edit
My husband and I were driving from Bozeman to Missoula and decided to stop half way for lunch. We got the portobello sandwich (no cheese) and the slanted and enchanted (tofu!!). They both had great vegan sauces on them. We also got a side of vegan sausage and it was amazing! We topped it off with a vegan donut and kombucha. It was the perfect pit stop. We would totally come back next time we’re in town!!!

Cake is SO GOOD - Edit
I am on a 4,000 mile road trip with family and found this place on Happy Cow as we were passing through on my birthday. I just wanted some vegan cake, and their gluten-free chocolate frosted cake was perfect. So good! I can’t really speak to the slow service because we took our cake on the road to go. Butte is a beautiful city worth seeing either way so make this cafe a must stop along the way. Montana is, otherwise, a vegan food desert so if I hadn’t already packed a picnic lunch in my car, this place would have been a gods-send.

Good lunch spot for vegans - Edit
We stopped here on our way to California from Glacier National Park. I had a salad and the side potatoes and my husband had the “slanted sandwich “ We have found very little vegan food in Montana so for the area we were pleasantly surprised. The food was good- the salad and veggies were fresh and the home fired potatoes were the best I have had in years - yes greasy but home fries are greasy...they also have vegan desserts.

Meh - Edit
Decided to stop in while we were traveling through since they had vegan options. Both of us got the Veggie Burger which was dripping in oil. My husband got the Roasted Red Potatoes which were covered in oil as well. I got the German Potato Salad which I found inedible and again loaded with oil. We we’re very dissatisfied with our meal.

Amazing pancake breakfast! - Edit
The hummingbird may be the best place for a vegan breakfast in all of Montana! It certainly beats everything in Missoula! There are vegan pancakes that can come with maple syrup and huckleberries! So good! I tried the tofu scramble too, but it had too much spice. The pancakes alone should earn this place five stars!

Perfect lunch - Edit
We are traveling and turned to Happy Cow for place to eat lunch. Happily we found Hummingbird Cafe and had a wonderful lunch. We both chose the Birdy Bowl. Fresh veggies, black bean, cilantro, and black olives over basmati or ice. Topped with seasoned hummus. Also had the soup of the day, all was delicious and filling.

Just another Cafe - Edit
I'm was in Anaconda for a boxing tournament and decided to take a trip to Butte because this was the only place in the area with vegan options. I ordered the tofu scramble w/ a side of vegan silver-dollar pancakes. Thwveggie sausage and toast that came with the tofu scramble were fine, while the tofu scramble itself was so completely covered in tumeric I could only take a bite or two. The pancakes were delicious, but if you come into the same situation, I recommend you don't order the tofu.

Great Spot, Currently Changing Setup - Edit
Hummingbird cafe has recently added Dinner to the mix, but are not serving lunch/breakfast during this time (the waitress said this will be back perhaps in April/May), so give them a call before trying them out for something other than dinner. (Hours during this time are actually 5pm to 11:45pm I believe, but this is not a permanent change, you can check them out on facebook for updates also).
Read moreDinner a bit on the expensive side (16$ each entree) was delicious and comes with a filling soup. The dinner menu came with two vegetarian options, we had both and they were fantastic (though under salted for us). Also had their delicious cocktail Hummingbird Juice for $4.
As far as I know the best option for vegan/vegetarians in Butte, but still exploring. Looking forward to trying them out for breakfast and lunch when they start that back up!
Pros: Deleicious, Good Cocktails, Large portions
Cons: Expensive, Not currently serving breakfast/lunch, Only 2 vegetarian entrees on dinner menu currently

Craving Pancakes - Edit
While travelling through Butte, I was so happy to come across this café with an abundant selection of vegan meals. We were there for breakfast and had the pancakes with fruit topping and maple syrup. it was delicious. I also had a side of the vegan sausage, also very good. My husband had the tofu scramble burrito that was good but on the salty side. Their selection of vegan lunch items was impressive. The service was lax but friendly. Would have loved to had a juice but was too full by the time I left. Will make a point to stopping in again when in the area.
