Decent but limited vegan options - Edit
The Hoot was packed at 10am on a Saturday! It seems like it is the main weekend brunch place for Northport, Belfast, and the surrounding area. There are no strictly vegan options on the menu, but I ordered the Brunch Burrito and had the chorizo, eggs, and crema removed and substituted avocado - the tofu that one commenter mentioned is not longer available. What I hadn’t thought of before ordering this is that the dish is built around those items, and without them it became a very typical black bean, sweet potato, kale, and avocado dish that is very boring to me, since that combo has been the main ingredients in the single vegan dish at non-vegan restaurants since the 90’s. Not as flavorful as I would have hoped. The garlic potato side was good, but rather small. The ambiance is nice and the staff are accommodating. No guarantees, but it seemed like there were at least two other dishes that could be made vegan in October 2024, a black bean burger and an aloo curry. I’m impressed that they could do anything vegan at all, since they are connected to the large pig farm next door, and nearly all of their dishes revolve around pig in some way.

No more tofu substitute - Edit
They no longer have tofu substitutes for vegan eaters. I ended up getting the burrito in a bowl (b/c, I am GF too) removed the meat, egg and cheese. Added a side of sautéed veggies. It was delicious

Good Weekday Breakfast - Edit
Overall we've enjoyed the vegetarian options at The Hoot. Chase's Daily only serves breakfast on weekends, so we've been waiting for more weekday breakfast options. Pictured is the eggs on polenta and greens with pesto, which was tasty but not very generous with the polenta or greens. Loaded potatoes were more filling. We've since discovered their good sized breakfast burritos which have become our go-to. They are happy to sub avocado for the sausage making them vegetarian. (Vegans could also sub tofu for eggs as noted on the menu). We've also tried the cornmeal rye waffle with fresh berries. A flavorful waffle served with real maple syrup, but it is a single waffle not "waffles" as written on the menu. We haven't tried lunch yet but there is an eggplant caprese that sounds yummy and a vegan spring roll wrap with tofu and peanut sauce. Reasonable prices and nice outdoor seating.

Cons: Could be more generous with some dishes
