Melanated people's money not appreciated here - Edit
I have frequented the store for years to buy bulk herbs and crystals, however, in the past few, the old lady with the long hair that works there has falsely stated to the other employees that I either tried to steal or have stolen, which is untrue. Now, every time I go in, I'm followed and watched closely. I have noticed that other people of color are followed also, but none of the white patrons are targeted. I called and complained to the manager, to no avail. If you are of color and need herbs, visit Herbal Farmcy in Norfolk or buy online at Mountain Rose. For crystals, shop at Beads n Rocks in Virginia Beach, Edgar Cayce ARE, or online.

Current Counter Girl Pushes Away Business - Edit
We've had the black bean burger several times, and it has been consistently good. I also like the veggie wrap.
Read moreFor a while, Heritage was my favorite place, but staffing changed. With the change, the former friendly out-to-please atmosphere is totally gone. The current Counter girl has a decidedly snippy edge. Also, despite past willingness to modify items, the current staff is rigid & apparently incapable of keeping menu items in stock.
Today, my first THREE choices were unavailable: NO soup, NO vegan coleslaw, NO avocado salad dressing. Although the counter girl offered a lame excuse about why I should not care about each unavailable item, the cumulative message was a big lack of interest in serving the local vegan community.
Eat here if you're desperate & willing to settle for whatever they are willing to supply. Don't expect a pleasant experience.

Great location about 1/2 mile from oceanfront. It's a nice size store, easy for quick stops...IF you can resist looking around.

I have have eaten here many time while shopping in the store. I often get 'Build your own' Black Bean Burger w/vegan aioli. I have always enjoyed the food. I also buy there "Grab 'N Go" items. I love their vegan noodle salad and sesame pasta thing.

Best Black Bean Burger I Ever Had - Edit
The Heritage Natural Market Cafe has plenty of vegan choices, but I've only tried the build-your-own veggie burger because it's so good I can't not order it. They let you pick as many toppings as you want, and I have them pile on lettuce, tomato, spinach, avocado, and sauteed mushrooms (plus mustard and ketchup). The burger and bun are delicious, and the whole thing is a masterpiece. The vegan creamy pasta salad is a divine accompaniment. Everything tastes fresh and healthy and delicious.

Fantastic Options - Edit
Heritage Market and the Cafe in the back is a fantastic find for vegetarians and vegans staying or living in Virginia Beach. The market has a good selection and the cafe in the back served a decent variety of vegan options. Very welcoming for vegans on vacation. They have an especially good vegan macaroni salad. I had several interactions with different employees and they were all overwhelmingly friendly and helpful.
