I don't know how this place doesn't get more attention - Edit
If the rules allowed for 5 stars I would give it. Then I would make a burner account and do it again.
I get the impression the menu changes quite a bit, but one thing that always seems to be on there is their Fried Seitan Chicken. I've been vegan for just over 10 years and this is HANDS DOWN the best vegan fried chicken I've ever had. It's like high class vegan KFC only so much better than that. They also have a vegan ranch for dipping and a house made hot sauce.
You ever have the seitan wings at Rise Above in Hamilton? You know when you're lying to yourself that it's really good, and then every once in a while you actually have a bite that is soft and juicy and not hard as a rock? Every bite of Grand Trunk Saloon's seitan is 50x better than that.
Most restaurants these days seem to have a brussel sprouts dish. This one is better, and just happens to be plant based.
We finished with the pineapple upside down cake swimming in caramel sauce, the whole thing also happens to be plant based, and it is absolutely beautiful.
In fact, right now a solid 3rd of their menu seems to be plant based. They have a couple pizzas, a roasted root veg, a coleslaw and a fennel salad, all of which I'm eager to try, provided I can resist getting another order of that seitan. I can not stress enough how good it was. And based on how good everything was I fully expect everything else to be excellent, I just completely trust this kitchen to nail it.
This place is a plant based hidden gem of the highest order. Do NOT let your opinion be negatively tainted by my extremely obnoxious review.
