Vegan pub food - Edit
Great to see a traditional rural pub doing so many vegan options - mostly vegan versions of pub classics. Also a lot of places will offer vegan mains but not starters or desserts, but this one had loads of options for all three courses. I wanted to try them all! The pub had a nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly.

Not impressed - Edit
The vegan menu was very limited and wasn’t as extensive as the menu on their website. The food was adequate but not something that I would return for. Very disappointed as I was anticipating a good meal because of the reviews.

Love this place! - Edit
So many tasty vegan options and a saviour if travelling north (or returning south or vice versa) as on the way without having to leave the route. I would give this place 5 stars but HappyCow won’t let me because it’s not fully vegetarian or vegan but I’ve never been to any pub with so many vegan options.

Heaps of vegan options marked well on the chalkboard menu and the ones I’ve tried have been nice (veggie curry, bangers and mash). Some meals come with salad or veges and fríes of potatoes too. Nice ciders on tap. #Veganuary

What A Brilliant Find - Vegan Heaven - Edit
We were travelling from Lancashire down to Cornwall and stayed over near Birdlip and found The Golden Heart on Happycow.
Read moreIts an old pub probably an old coaching inn and has an extensive vegan menu as the landlady Cath is keen to cater for everyone. I don't think I've ever been to a pub with as many choices.
We had vegetable gyozas with chilli dip and garlic mushrooms on ciabatta bread to start and they were delicious. Next was black bean spaghetti with chestnut balls and tomato and herb sauce with garlic bread and salad and a mushroom nut roast with new potatoes, vegetables and gravy with a jug of gravy if you wanted more. These dishes were equally as tasty and all the dishes were well presented, full of flavour and seasoned. We were too full for dessert but there were four choices and not just some sorbet but well thought out puddings that anyone could enjoy.
The wine list labels vegan wines, the chalkboard had vegan beers on it and even the childrens menu had vegan options which is a rarity these days. What a find this place is and if we are ever back in the area, we will be visiting for sure.

So much choice! - Edit
Lovely to find somewhere with so many vegan options! We had a whole menu to choose from😄Staff were lovely, really polite and friendly. We had the 3 bean chilli and the stuffed butternut squash, followed by chocolate and salted caramel cheesecake. The chilli was really tasty and came with garlic bread. The butternut squash could’ve been a bit hotter, but was still tasty. Came with a side of veg, salad and chips! We overheard another customer raving about the vegan pie, so will have to try that next time!

Lots of vegan choice - Edit
Went here with my family who were meat eaters, and rare to find a place with multiple vegan options on the menu. Had the vegan platter to start- could have done with more bread for dipping in the salsa and hummus but very nice all the same. Mains was a jackfruit and ale pie- couldn’t have mash with it as it wasn’t vegan and not quite the same with new potatoes but still very tasty. Desert was a delicious salted caramel cheesecake served with vanilla vegan ice cream which was very good! I enjoyed my meal and staff seemed clued up as to what I could have or not.

Delish! - Edit
What a fantastic meal!! Stopped in for lunch after a morning hike. Hardest part was deciding what to choose from their extensive vegan menu. We decided on the Nut Roast (it is Sunday after all!) and the Beetroot & Walnut Rissotto. Really wanted to order dessert but had nowhere to put it ... and no takeaway option, so will gladly have to return! 😊 Would give 5 stars if it would allow me.

Perfect - Edit
We gave this pub a chance after a very disappointing meal at another the night before and were absolutely blown away.
Read moreWe were utterly spoilt for choice given the eight vegan options on the board and three on the main menu, and all of them were wonderfully exciting!
The atmosphere was delightful, the pub itself is beautiful and the staff were very accommodating. I simply can't fault it.
We tried the 'turkey' and sherry pie and hoisin duck tortilla and both were brilliant, both in presentation and taste. (I highly recommend the jacket spud along with your meal.)
There were also 4(!) vegan puddings too chose from... So we got greedy and ordered three. Each was easily on par with the rest of the experience.
I can't recommend this pub enough, if you're even remotely in the area find an excuse to drop by.
Easily 5 stars if I was allowed to give it on here.
Pros: Lots of vegan options all well thought out, Brilliant atmosphere and excellent staff, Delicious food
Cons: Next to a busy road I guess? Very easy to ignore
