A welcome oasis

Just had a tasty toastie and coffee at this welcoming cafe on the High Street. Nice to see a vegan-friendly menu with several choices, rather than just one.

Pros: Quiet and welcoming, Good snack food

Worth a visit if in Bridgwater!

I went to Bridgwater to meet a friend and this looked a good choice (online) as I'm vegan and on a budget. On arrival I wasn't sure it was open, as it's next to the Engine Room Film Centre which was closed and lights were off. To my relief it was open and I had a very nice Green Thai Curry with rice. Also a mug of coffee with soya milk. The food was hot and fresh and very affordable. I will be back.

Pros: Affordable, Fresh food, Polite and helpful staff

Cons: Only offered soya milk (allergen for some)

Very little for vegans sadly

Came in here on a wet windy morning hoping for coffee & some light food. Only plant milk on offer was soya & literally the only vegan food offering was avocado on toast or a curry (which at 10.30am I didn't really fancy) - not even any cake. The avo on toast was ok but overall I was disappointed to have zero choice given previous reviews elsewhere suggested otherwise?

Pros: Friendly staff

Cons: Does not really cater for vegans

More than a café

This place is a funny mix of restaurant, hang out spot, Internet café and art gallery. I arrived quite late for lunch (3pm and it closes at 4) and the soups were all sold out which is always a good sign. Amongst the vegetarian and vegan sandwiches and panninis they also had a vegan and gluten free tofu green curry and stuffed cabbage leaves with rice which is what I had, and it was delicious.

At the moment the Somerset art festival is on and they were using their gallery space for an interactive exhibition which I went to check out after eating. All in all an interesting place and I would definitely go back.

Pros: Plant based vegan options, Gluten free options, Interesting space

Cons: Small menu, Not much atmosphere

Bridgwater Vegan

I can only second what The Vegan Revolution said in the previous review. What an amazing place and indeed it is a sanctuary in Bridgwater - super friendly cafe staff, most menu options are vegan or vegetarian and if not the cafe manager will offer to make them vegan for you. Delicious food includes curries, risotto, soups, sandwiches and cakes to mention a few, menu updated every 3 months or so with an option of specials. The coffee tastes amazing and the chilled out vibe is enhanced by the music. Free superfast wi-fi.

Internet cafe - free for 30 minutes, £1.50 for an extra 30 mins.

There's still a hive of activity to do with media production and creativity, talent development, community engagement going on behind these closed doors. Drop in sessions still on Tuesdays, tons of courses to do with photography, film making, music, involvement for young people. Check out www.somersetfilm.com for details.

Pros: Great vegan/vegetarian food & coffee + wi-fi , Media hub for getting creative & networking, Chilled out friendly staff and vibe

Cons: Hard to think of any, Opening hours Mon-Fri 10am - 4pm, Not very many tables but does have seating outside

More than just food

This place is a sanctuary in Bridgwater, it is a media centre with a hive of activity going on behind the cafe doors and really friendly staff. The cafe itself is also an Internet cafe with really fast wifi and plays good music off vinyl. For a place without a full kitchen space the food is a good selection of curries and soups with a majority Vegan menu (if not then vegetarian)
There are always community artists looking to get people involved in latest creative projects and in the summer you get locals playing chess out the front who are likely to invite you for a game if you're willing.
On Tuesdays there is a public drop in where members of the public can use the studio for free and have access to technical and creative support while using film/photography equipment and have access to an iMac. Somerset Film who occupy the Engine Room also have lots of workshops and courses going on, so it's worth looking them up first to see if there is any projects you can get involved in if you want more than just veggie food and access to the net :)

Pros: fast wifi, good Vegan selection , great for meeting artists and getting creative

Cons: small space , stops serving food at 4:00, Bridgwater now has parking wardens
