Disappointing

Pretty disappointing. We went partly because here on Happy Cow it says there's a separate vegan menu. Well, sadly there isn't.

I ordered the Panzanella salad, which claimed to have heritage tomatoes in it. The tomato definitely weren't heritage. Salad itself was okay nothing special. Although we had informed the waitress that we were vegan, she asked me if I'd like some topping on my salad. I asked what the toppings were, to be advised chicken, salmon and some other dead animals. 😔

My partner ordered the celeriac steak, which he said was nice. Those two dishes together with a burger were the vegan options. There was one vegan dessert, vanilla poached pear. My partner ordered that and after checking that the hot chocolate powder was vegan, I ordered a hot chocolate with soya milk. Sadly the only cow's milk alternative they offer is oak milk.

By all accounts the vanilla pear was nice. The hot chocolate was very nice.

The place itself is fairly attractive with plenty of room between the tables. We went to the beginning of May and although the heating was on, it was chilly at our table.

It's not somewhere I'd want to go to again and certainly wouldn't recommend it to fellow vegans.

Very few vegan options

They used to have a full vegan menu but now they have only a couple of options. Very disappointing, the only vegan starter on offer was the soup as well.

Family meal

We had a lovely time at a recent get together. Two of us were vegans and were pleased to see a separate vegan menu. The food was very tasty especially the oyster mushrooms starter. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended #Veganuary

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Staff very helpful and friendly , Under new management

Cons: None

Pretty nice food & cocktails in a beautiful setting 3.5 stars

The oyster mushrooms were unreal! A must order!
The curry was really good but a little too salty. The nourish bowl was disappointing. Very small (considering it’s just veg and hummus) and everything was lacking flavour other than the cold cauliflower.
We had the pineapple spritz and it was absolutely incredible! A really beautiful indoor and outdoor restaurant!

Pros: Amazing mushrooms, Great cocktails , Good service

Cons: A little pricy but expected for the nice setting, Not very many vegan options , Not the most imaginative options

Really tasty, great options, really pleased with meal.

We live in Heswall and haven't eaten here for a long time as we normally go to Silk Road. We thought we would try it again and looked at the menu and was really excited to see the seperate vegan menu.
We ate here with our 2 children. We are both Vegan and shared the mezze flat bread as a starter ( which was ok, but maybe a bit of caramelised onion may improve) and had the curry and veg bake as the mains. The Veg bake and curry were amazing. We topped it off with 2 desserts which were also really tasty, millionaire bar with ice-cream and blueberry crumble and custard, both were amazing, so much so, that we asked the manager to confirm they where both Vegan.
So we had 3 courses for about £24 each.
Our children are veggies and they had the children's menu, and had a margarita pizza, which was a handmade flat bread pizza, which went down well and looked lovely, they also had mini chocolate brownies and crumble, which both went down well. The children's 2 course meal was about £10 each.

Now for the downside. The service was very slow, it took 25mins to take our drinks order and we where there for 2 1/2 hours in total (with no coffees), which was far too long especially with 2 children (8 & 11).
Also the wine is very expensive, my wife wanted red wine, but the cheapest red wine, which was vegan was about £26 and this was low alcohol and low calorie. Who wants a low alcohol bottle of wine? Not us. The next vegan red wine was about £36, so we had prosecco instead for £30.

In my mind Prosecco should be £25 and house red about £20, unless you are in London, which this isn't.

When we had the manager over at the end of the night, when we were asking if the desserts were vegan. We complemented him on the quality of the menu and food, then asked if he was short staffed. He says they weren't and would expect to turn a meal round with coffees in 2 hours. He's said there is some inexperienced staff and he had, had other feedbacks about the length of time and so he will be addressing this. We also explained the wine situation, which he will address, so fingers crossed these aspects will improve.

Not worth it.

We were eating with non vegans and so wanted a place to cater for us all which this place seemed to. But our vegan options were poor. There are a few options but they were not cooked well and so overpriced! Also it says on the menu something like they use vegan produce but can't promise its cooked vegan.

Separate Vegan Menu

They have a separate vegan menu. There is a fair amount of options but all quite salady, if you know what I mean. The food I had was very nice.

Pros: Vegan Menu

Cons: Options quite salady
