Convenient fully vegan spot in DTLA - Edit
It's super convenient to have a fully vegan bar downtown. Beer is great, food is alright. The menu is pretty hit or miss. It's heavy, greasy bar food, so splitting dishes is a good idea. Prices aren't bad considering similar spots nearby. Love the artsy interior too. I do have a soft spot for the Dankness Dojo because my fiance and I had our first date here.

Can't wait to try the whole menu! - Edit
My first time here and was not disappointed! I was actually surprised at how good the food was! I ordered the fuegoelote, the sausage scramble, the carne asada fries, beignets, an apple juice and a grapefruit drink. My friend had the grapefruit drink and said it was super refreshing. The elote blew my MIND! Omg the cashier, wish I took his name, mentioned it was spicy and it was the perfect amount of spicy! 3 short cobs was the perfect amount. I was in heaven. The jalapenos and sauce on it made it a win for me. The scramble....my friend ordered it and I was 2 seconds away from getting it since the cashier recommended it....FIRE!! I was jealous I didn't order it! The potatoes, the tofu and the sausage omg! What sausage is that? I haven't found any as tasty as that. It was very flavorful, just depths of it! I've had some experience with vegan scrambles and nothing came close to the flavors that stood out in this one. Most aren't seasoned or well balanced. I had an order of fries and they were nice....but the carne asada fries!!! I went to the moon stayed there and devoured as much of it as I could! Whatever the cheese sauce is, perfection! the ingredients all around made me feel how I felt before going vegan eating loaded fries. You wouldn't know you were eating vegan food unless someone told you. The amount that they give you is nice for the price. The beignets I didn't eat right away, I ate them about 2 hours later. The consistency was similar to french toast, it was really good. The chocolate sauce? Had a coffee taste might've been espresso I'm not sure. It went well with the beignet. I don't enjoy coffee personaly, the taste, so I ate mine without the sauce and if I waited til I got home and had them with agave or fruit spread I'd eat them all the time for breakfast! I highly recommend everything I tried. The ingredients were hot and fresh, The staff was awesome and their recommendations were spot on perfect. The atmosphere was eclectic, chill vibes, it was maybe a 15min wait for a table around 5PM which wasn't bad at all. Good number of customers not to packed I would say about 7 or tables might've been free when I went. I honestly can't wait to become a regular and invite more of my friends to try the food. Most places I've brought them to they weren't feeling the food much but This place! I think it will definitely win them over. Thank you the experience and I hope more people try this place. I have a vlog about my experience there.

Great brunch, lunch menu - Edit
The Fraaanch Toast is a winner with its thick chunks of pretzel bread, oat streusel and berry coulis. If you like some heat, try the chilaquiles or the pozole verde. I wonder if it’s a new chef or recipe because they were too spicy to finish. I’ve enjoyed them before. Friendly service in a fun, noisy restaurant packed with L.A. hipsters.

Dark and loud but really fun - Edit
They have a huge selection of American style heavy food. 100% vegan so you don’t even have to think about what’s in everything, just order whatever looks good. We were boring and had burgers, but but burgers for the win!

Great brewery - all vegan food - Edit
Totally fun and super funky. Lots of great beer (it’s a brewery). All vegan menu and they’ve made some huge upgrades! The restaurant has a host now and are throwing special events on their day off (Tuesday). Also the menu got a huge upgrade: like a whole brunch menu tons of new items like pazole, Bernese lentil salad, hash, Beyond meets. The iceberg wedge salad and shishetos are really good!

Everything spicy, stomach hurts after, one of my least favorite vegan spots :-( - Edit
Second time at this place and the whole menu changed , dim lighting , vegan junk food that is really the type of food that makes my stomach hurt intensely afterwards. Sadly I’d rather nearly any other vegan spot in the city ... can’t recommend at all.

Soo many delicious vegan options to choose from in a really unique space that is also a brewery. The buffalo “chicken” hoagie tastes like real chicken and the asada fries are huge and to die for.

Kitchen closes whenever - Edit
I wanted to love this place because the one in PDX was super fantastic. I walked in at 8:30pm on a Monday, passed all the booths with people eating what looked like great stuff, then was told the kitchen was closed because it was slow. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration and call there first. 3 stars for the beer.

Hey Neoerik,
Read moreThere must have been some confusion, because our kitchen only closes an hour before the restaurant (which would have been 9pm). We shared this with the managers but can assure you this isn't the case in the future.
Thanks and sorry!

I was so excited to go to Dankness Dojo by Modern Times based on all the great reviews, and it definitely lived up to they hype! It is in DTLA and has available parking right next door and across the street, which is always a good thing. The decor was on point and absolutely fun. Modern Times is a favorite beer of mine so it was excellent to have the Oat Coffee Stout. I had the Double Burger and it was seriously one of the best burgers I’ve ever had!! The sauces made it a flavor explosion in your mouth! I also had the Potato Croquettes, another win! This dish had just the right amount of crispy and soft textures, the sauce for it was also amazing. I am definitely going back for the food, fun and beer!!!

OK, let me say this: It’s the best! I first went to the Encinitas location and I couldn’t believe there was one right here. The Ice Pilsner on tap is simply the best beer in LA. Amazing. Then, I’ve been a Vegan for ever and I feel like the Double Burger or the Chilaquiles with Chicken from Modern Times Danken Dojo was all I could dream of, and more... the neighborhood, the atmosphere inside, everything is great, and affordable for the standard it offers! Definitely my birthday treat this year, getting a ride to get back!

Wow! - Edit
The food is great here. I found it to be very oily and messy, but it tasted great. Finally some vegan onion rings that don’t suck! I did find the employees to be slightly unwelcoming. It felt like they were going out of their way to not acknowledge me even when I was standing right in front of them at the register ready to order. In fact I walked away twice because I was being ignored. Hopefully my next visit is better, if I go back.

The beers are top notch and the artwork, both installed and wallpapered across the restaurant, is intriguing. Just had the bar nuts to eat but it was a good sized portion and super tasty.
