Fab vegan wellington - Edit
I’ve eaten here a few times because of its fabulous location and not been that inspired by the vegan options but yesterday found a much improved version of the menu with some heart delights. I went for the parsnip and butternut squash wellington which was delicious and at £11.95 one of the cheapest options on the menu. Only a vegan Yorkshire Pudding could have improved this dinner!

Good vegan burger - Edit
They've got a vegan sausage roll, a wrap for lunch and a good vegan burger. The house soda (watermelon or elderflower) is delicious

Vegan options in a great location - Edit
The Cow & Calf is in a great location, high up on the moors overlooking Ilkley and right in the path of popular walking and cycling routes. We went for a table outside where there was plenty of seating, and our dog was welcome too (I believe there was a sign saying dogs were also allowed inside). We had to ask for the separate vegan menu, which offered a variety of choices for starters and mains, including falafel, soup, salad, curry, tart and burger dishes. It's part of the Vintage Inns chain, so the food is identical at each of their pubs. We thought the taste and quality was pretty decent, but nothing special. Clearly the focus here is on traditional meat-based pub grub (and at all the tables around us, people just seemed to be eating fish fingers!). Given that country pubs aren't usually renowned for their vegan offerings though, it's really nice to have a reasonable dinner option up on the moors like this.
