A must try - Edit
Never had Sri Lancan food before, i clearly missed something. It is not Indian cuisine, it differs spices and composition. Tasty till the last bite, spicy warm but not burning, filling without stuffing. Mixed different small dishes and all where different but equally good. I will visit it again next time i am in Oxford or in another city they do have a place. Service was also excellent, ad the cocktails and lemonade.

Lots of options - Edit
Would highly recommend, lots of vegan options. Some dishes can be a bit spicy so do take note of this on the menu. Still very tasty

Next time I'll know better - Edit
It has a few vegan and gluten-free options, free kids drink.

The food was super spicy! Like a fire burning in yours body. It was too much for us so we couldn't finish eating, I could tell the food was really good underneath the hot flame. After we paid they told us we could've asked for the food to be not spicy - we had no idea it would be spicy at all (the menu didn't mention anything) and we assumed it won't be because we specifically said it would be for our kids as well (one of them a toddler) and we said we've never been to the place...
We ordered potatoes, mushrooms, dhal, peas and cashes curry

Pros: Underneath the hotness the food was good, Free drinks for kids

Good food, just a bit unbalanced - Edit
Liked it a lot here! Staff were so helpful both in place and prior when I emailed and asked about GF and less processed options.
Read moreShared some plates with my omnivore parents and they thought it great too. My favourites were the pumpkin curry and green mango curry which were both very yum, though I would have liked a bit more pumpkin/ mango. My only problem was that most things were very coconut-y/fatty which made the meal a bit unbalanced. Also, there was only refined white rice which seems a pity (and of course it’s sad that they serve animals). Still though, as initially stated, the food was tasty and I would come back ☺️🌱

Pros: Several healthier/less processed options , Helpful staff , Green mango
Cons: Serves animals , Only white rice , The curry dishes are quite fatty

Adore this place! - Edit
So many options here for veggie/vegans. An outstanding menu. Delicious dahl, pumpkin curry, kotthu roti, hoppers and spicy mushrooms. Definitely creates an atmosphere of veggie/vegan being the norm, rather than an 'opt out' of the main menu like at so many restaurants.
Read morePros: Huge veggie/vegan options, Excellent prices, Takeout excellent too
Cons: I want to go there every day!

Amazing food! - Edit
We were overwhelmed by all of the choice on the menu so asked the waiter to pick our Sri Lankan tapas for us. We’re so glad we did this! The 5Cs (carrot, coriander, chilli, cucumber and coconut) was exceptional. Good atmosphere and excellent service. Cocktails were two for £12 and all featured something extra like a cute elephant glass or a fire show! We loved it here and would definitely go back.

Great menu! - Edit
Lots of stars for the Coconut Tree. Most dishes are vegan (with only a small meat menu). Really interesting flavours and a menu which develops and changes over time. The tapas format means that you can try a bit of everything. The staff were really helpful with picking items out which go well together. Looking forward to my next visit. My only negative feedback is that the music is really loud. I know that this is part of TCT’s policy, but it seems a shame since it’s not very inclusive of people with certain disabilities.

Great vegan options - Edit
Eaten here a few times, not many vegan only options in Oxford, so this is a good compromise, it’s Sri Lankan street food a lot of which happens to be vegan, great taste, spice level options too. The Brussel sprouts are gorgeous.

3 out of 4 stars - Edit
Overall the meal was nice. 3/4 of the menu is vegan so there are lots of options with different vegetables. Between 2 of us we shared the vegan fried rice and 5 other tapas-style dishes. It was about right volume of food wise.
Read moreWe didn’t order anything labelled spicy, but apart from the rice everything was fairly spicy. If I came again I’d bring some vegan yoghurt. It also seemed like every single dish was packed full of onions, so much so it made me bloated and left a taste in my mouth. The food overall was nice though once I got used to the spice. The treacle hopper dessert was lovely, though the straciatella was very coconuts, not creamy and in a tub with a plastic spoon.
The other unpleasantness was the incredibly loud pop music blaring forth making it difficult to have a conversation. I did read the warning about this on TCT website but it really would be a considerably better experience if they turned it down just a little.
Despite all of the above overall I had a nice meal. I’m not incredibly keen to visit again soon, but I wouldn’t rule it out (with a pot of yoghurt)!

Good food, good service - Edit
Really friendly, helpful service. They talked us through the menu and made good recommendations suggesting 2-3 small dishes per person. This means that you can try a good range. I’d wanted to try hoppers for a while so they were a must. We also chose the cashew nuts and peas, ladies fingers (okra), hot battered spicy mushrooms, “fat sister” (pumpkin cooked in coconut milk and turmeric) and rotti. All were tasty but my personal favourite was the rich coconut curry.
