Only one vegan main option - Edit
The only vegan option was a curry, and it was nice but a shame that there isn’t more considering what used to be on offer here. I ended up having to have soup and chips instead of a main cause I didn’t fancy curry at all. My partners curry was good. Come on though - more options!

Only one vegan option, no vegan menu - Edit
Went out of our way to make a reservation and come here, only to be told multiple times that the only vegan option in this restaurant is a curry and there is NO vegan menu!

Great service but... - Edit
We had a burger with fries and the curried lentil fritters.
Read moreThe burger was very dry (no wonder: There really was only salad, the patty and onions on it), the fritters were ok but nothing special.
The sticky pudding was pretty good, though.

Due to HappyCow regulations, excellent restaurants that do not only serve vegan food can only receive 4*. To be fair to them, I can give here only. 3* (and that's because the service was good.)

Fish and chips, or just chips - Edit
They have a couple of vegan items, but you really only need one: the vegan fish and chips. The “fish” was a red lentil patty-type thing. It was pretty good, but the star was the chips and vegan tartar sauce. I could eat three bowls of that.

Fantastic Food - Edit
My partner who is carnivorous loved his meal as much as I did my vegan non fish and chips. All was hand cooked to perfection, even the sauces. Highly recommended.

lots of vegan options - Edit
I've been here few times. Some dishes like sea kelp "fish" and chips are way too greasy. Some are very nice.

Greasy and tasteless - Edit
The restaurant has a fully marked vegan menu with a good range of options. Unfortunately our meal (hanging skewer and battered sea kelp/chips was extremely oily and bland. Unless you like very greasy pub food I'd give it a miss.

Full vegan menu - Edit
Lovely bar and restaurant. They have a separate vegan menu with a great selection of food, including dessert options. I ordered the sea kelp with chips which was lovely and really filling, but a little greasy. It would have been nice if there had been some tofu in it along with the veg. Would definitely go back again.

Full vegan menu - Edit
I would definitely class this restaurant as vegan-friendly. It's has a vegan section on the menu with a good choice of starters and mains (I don't know if there are any vegan desserts because we didn't have room so didn't look at the dessert menu). There was even a vegan wine list which Is something I have never seen in a non-vegan restaurant before. The staff were very friendly and looked for a vegan drink list for me (for beers and cocktails) for ages but couldn't find it so I just had a Carlsberg. I really appreciated the extra care they had taken to cater for vegans.
Read moreI was a little disappointed with the vegan burger since the patty/bread ratio was a little low, but had it been right it would have been very tasty. I regret not having had the veggie-hummus-pitta starter and sweet potato fries instead which sounded very appetising.
Pros: vegan menu, vegan drinks
Cons: vegan patty could be thicker

Delicious! - Edit
A beautiful restaurant with a full vegan menu. As a start, we had the vegetable board and it was super flavorful. For the main I ordered the lentils and roasted vegetables pie with sweet potato pure on top. A coffee pudding as desert and the meal was deliciously complete!

Delicious Vegan Options - Edit
The Cloth Ear is a public bar, located in The Merchant Hotel, recommended by a friend. The Cloth Ear offers an interesting vegan menu, with some good options, but I went with my friend's suggestion of sea veg and chips.
Read moreWhat a good choice this turned out to be, I have never eaten anything, that looks so much like a piece of battered fish. The whole dish was so tasty, with a very light but extra crispy batter, delicious chips, minted peas and a lovely herby vegan tartare sauce. The fish was actually courgette wrapped in sea kelp. My husband chose from the gluten free menu with vegetable & halloumi skewer and sweet potato fries, another excellent dish.
I love that The Cloth Ear offers a vegan menu and a good one at that and we would definitely revisit, when we return to Belfast, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Pros: Vegan options, Vegan Menu, Plenty vegan choices
