A trendy hipster bar in one of Portland's coolest suburbs with a 100% vegan menu - Edit
We are always on the lookout for new places to eat when we travel to Portland, Oregon - which happens frequently through the year. One place that has been on my list is Bye and Bye on Alberta Street. It is a real treat to find a bar that serves a totally vegan menu - saves having to ask a lot of questions when ordering our food!
Read moreThe Bye and Bye doesn't look much from the road but it is surprisingly interesting once you get to experience the inside. The interior design is hipster (I am just about too old to know what that is!). The bar has a cool setup with a lot of outdoor seating both in the front and back as well as an open air dining room, which I assume has some sort of window that will close it off in bad weather.
The bar has the laid-back Portland feel to it with tattooed bartenders and limited table service. We love people watching and there was much to see and enjoy in this place. The decor is very eclectic and it took a few minutes to take everything in.
When we arrived in the late afternoon the place was packed. There is of course no need to panic as the Bye and Bye does not close until 2 am most days - but we were peckish by this time. As the weather was pretty decent we decided to sit out in the spacious outside patio area. It feels very secluded despite being next to a busy road - there is a large fence which is softened by tall and elegant bamboo plants.
The menu at the bye and bye is influenced by Southern style cooking and is simple yet delicious. They offer a decent selection of bowls, sandwiches, and entrees—like spaghetti or chili pie—are all available for under ten bucks. As usual we decided to order two main course and split them. To wash our food down we ordered a very tasty pint of porter.
We settled for the BBQ Brussel Bowl with BBQ tofu, brussels sprouts and brown rice. For an extra $1 we added avocado. For our second entree we went with the Chili Pie which was made up of a vegan chili, fritos, onions, Tofutti sour cream, non-dairy cheese and nutritional yeast.
You cannot get simpler food than this! Gourmet it is not!
We enjoyed our meal at Bye and Bye and would definitely go there again. The setting is interesting and if you like watching the people of the Portland diaspora then this is a great place to hang out for an hour or two.
Pros: Opens late, Reasonable prices, Good bar
Cons: Food is very, very simple

Great vegan eats! - Edit
The first vegan spot we hit after arriving in Portland from Seattle. I got the Peanut Noodle Bowl. The tofu was amazing! It was breaded in nutritional yeast and gave it a delicious cheesy crust. There were lots of veggies in the bowl, so I didn’t feel heavy after eating most of it. My omnivorous dad thought the veggie meatballs on the spaghetti tasted great and very meaty.

Great food Great time - Edit
Drove straight here from Seattle before we checked into our hotel. We were starving and we were so glad we stopped here. Had the BBQ plate and the Eastern bowl. Both were great. Guy behind the bar was very helpful and friendly. The beer was great too. Sat outside in the evening sun. Couldn't be better

Had the bbq platter consisting of bbq tofu, black eyed peas, collard greens and garlic bread. Oh my; I ate every bite. My parter has spaghetti and that was delicious too; Very well seasoned. Nice beer list. Under 21 offerings — great mocktails and kombucha.

What a gem in Northeast Portland! The menu is full of many tasty and healthy options. Plus, there is a full bar for anyone who wants to enjoy a libation with their meal. The restaurant is rather spacious with various seating areas inside and outside. I will definitely visit here again.

As a bar, it’s cool. Their food was under seasoned and needed more flavor. It was also difficult to get water refills which is annoying.

Yum! - Edit
Super cool place with an all vegan menu. I got the Pretzel Knots (dang, so good) and the Eastern Bowl. The Pretzel Knots came with housemade cashew cheeze and spicy mustard. Seriously so good. The Eastern Bowl was yummy as well and a big portion. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Order at the bar.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Bye And Bye!
Read moreHow is a bar that serves bomb vegan food not a good idea?
The food is affordable, happy hour makes it even better!
Truthfully what the bye-and-bye cranks out of their kitchen has more flavor and is honestly more 'healthy' for you than most vegan food carts and vegan food spots in and around Portland.
The staff is very attentive. The wait isn't long. The place is always busy. I highly recommend trying the Samurai Bowl or the Tofu Salad. Sometimes my friend and I will just pick 3 sides for $10. You can get sides like: collard greens, black-eyed peas, brussel sprouts, brown rice, and more.
It's home-away-from-home.
Pros: Vegan Bar Food! Heck YES!, Quick Service. , Lots of seating options!

Good Vegan Food - Edit
I still can't believe that a bar serves this kind of yummy, vegan fare. I am a pretty picky eater but lots of sides to choose from here makes it easy to get what I want. The nutritional yeast crusted tofu is divine--best I have ever had. The first time I visited, the music was way too loud for my taste, especially on a Sunday at noon. We sat on the back patio the second time, and I don't remember the music being an issue.

Vegan Bar and so much more! - Edit
My favorite spot to stop in Portland. I'm so happy that I found this place. The one thing that really bums me out, besides the senseless slaughter of animals, is not being able to have a Bloody Mary when I've gone out these last 13 years since I've been legal to drink. So, its always nice to stumble across a vegan bar when I'm in a new city. The Bloody Mary here doesn't disappoint either. It was well crafted and delicious. They also feature a bunch of specialty cocktails that are equally great as well.
Read moreThe food here was as fantastic as well. Get the Pretzel Knots! They come with cashew cheese and stone ground mustard and were fabulous. The meatball sub with almond Parmesan and oat cheese totally hit the spot!
