It's gone downhill

They used to have lots of vegan options but their current menu is now poor for vegans. I won't be going again there to eat.

Pros: Friendly staff, Large pub with lots of seating area, Nice environment

Cons: Only one vegan option - curry, Not good value for money

Spicy vegan skewer

I ordered the spicy vegan skewer as it sounded delicious - corn on the cob skewered with peppers and onions then grilled. Served on a warm flatbread with spicy vegetable rice, topped with a spicy herb garnish, drizzled with piri piri and an extra pot of piri piri on the side.

There was NOTHING spicy about this dish. It was corn on the cob, peppers and onions grilled, served on a very plain naan bread, no spicy garnish, no piri piri in sight with bland microwaveable rice. I think I was actually served some kind of sour cream dip with this dish - someone tried it for me and confirmed it was not even remotely close to spicy piri piri. I didn't finish the rice and bread as it was so bland so I was still hungry afterwards as it was basically just a few spoonfuls of vegetables.

The menu did have a few options including vegan fish, burgers and pie so would definitely recommend getting one of these.

Pros: Few vegan options, Very affordable , Friendly staff

Cons: Skewers not as described, Tables very close together and cramped

Delicious vegan fish!

I had the vegan fish and chips to start which was the best vegan fish I have ever tried! It was incredibly tasty!

For dessert I had the chocolate and coconut torte which was meant to come with vegan ice cream but they had ran out unfortunately. Was still divine though!

My main was £6.50 and dessert about £4. Cheap and delicious! I will be returning.

Pros: Good choice, Tasty food, cheap

Cons: ran out of vegan ice cream

It was going unexpectedly well...

The Butchers has been my local pub since a kid - Dad would take me in. Always loved a pint in there (as an adult), lots of friendly local people.

Food has been astonishingly bad for vegetarians over the years, but I was delighted to see a new separate vegan menu. A great reflection of the vision of the current owners / chain.

There is an ‘okay’ selection - basically two starters, three mains and three desserts. See the photo of the menu I uploaded. To be honest, I was delighted with this... just so I wasn’t eating chip butties while my non-vegan friends and family were stuffing themselves. I chose the vegan burger and doubled up - see uploaded picture. It was good, especially with the lattice / crisscross fries. It’s not the kind of burger trying to directly replace meat - clearly a veggie burger with veggies in it. But I enjoyed it with a pint.

Then I ordered the Chocolate and Coconut Torte with vegan ice cream. After a wait, I got stuck in and almost demolished it all before the waitress came over and said that it wasn’t vegan ice cream!! I’m not a difficult person, and said that this could have been a serious issue if I was allergic or intolerant to dairy. As it is, I’m vegan for the animals... anyway, I was provided with a refund for the three desserts and coffee that I ordered (separately from the mains).

So delighted with the separate vegan menu, but they made a serious error that could have affected other people seriously.

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Good prices , Good atmosphere, great beer selection

Cons: Lack of knowledge of issues associated with diary
