Amazing food, atmosphere and story

Had a great evening here - the food is great, the view of the ocean is really beautiful.
Love the combination of croatian food and vegan cuisine, background Information about all the dishes is found in the menu.

Also love that, although it is a finer dining experience, they have more affordable dishes aswell - if you want that take the burgers. We tried Mata-Mata and it was really good with a good portion size.

The fish aswell as the gnocchi were really good aswell!

Quality food

I loved having a vegan restaurant in Zadar. It's one of the reasons we came to Croatia, hoping the area would be vegan friendly, which it has been. We sat outside with fairy lights. It could be quite classy and romantic if you wanted that. The waiter was helpful and polite. The food was good. We had the gnocchi (a favourite), the fish type meal which was aubergine (really nice), the pasta bake (delicious but you have to wait a little longer for this) and a Croatian mushroom stew type meal on polenta. I wasn't that keen on the polenta, mostly as it was a heavy meal and I was hot. Although the most expensive meal we've had do far in Zadar, everybody loved their food and we plan to visit again.

Exceptional and unforgettable

Wow! Just wow. I don’t have the words to describe how fantastic this place is. I’ve been vegan for over a decade and have traveled extensively and eaten a lot of vegan food around the world, and this is one of the top 5 vegan restaurants I have ever been to. I loved the family story that comes with the menu and the explanations for some of the dishes. It made me feel connected to the food in a unique and emotional way. The Botanist beats some Michelin star experiences I have been to. Worth every cent! Don’t miss it on a visit to Zadar, even if you’re with friends who scoff at plant-based food.
In detail: We tried the fennel salad, stone soup, “fish dish”, chickpea stew with sopernik, tiramisu, and cheesecake. the fennel salad was fresh and very delicately flavored. A cooling and palate-opening start to the meal.
The stone soup is hard to describe but not to be missed. It’s one of the most flavorful vegan broths I have tasted—rich in umami without being too salty and bursting with delicious but hard to pin down flavors. It was beautifully served from a stone teapot and over a bed of sea weeds and thick home made noodles.
The “fish” was another exceptional mix of flavors and textures. The tofu and vegetable based vegan dish was unique and tasty, and went beautifully with the melt-in-your mouth potato puree it was served on. The pure was unbelievable—so creamy and “buttery” and with flavor notes made to compliment the Swiss chard and “fish” to perfection.
The chickpea stew with sopernik was both a cozy homemade stew and a high end culinary experience. Beautifully served and full of delicate and perfectly balanced flavor notes, but comforting like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket on a cold day. The sopernik that came with it was prepared to perfection.
The desserts were, sadly, the only part of the meal that didn’t impress. The tiramisu was not a good tiramisu but was a very nice coffee-flavored dessert. Though nothing unforgettable. The cheesecake I would skip — it was your box standard coconut-based “cheesecake” that tastes of coconut cream and little else.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience at The Botanist and cannot recommend it enough. I cannot wait to return and try more of the dishes on the menu. I really admire how much love and meaning seems to be behind each dish. An extraordinary and unforgettable experience.

Pros: Exceptional food

Cons: Hot inside in the summer

Perfekter Besuch!

Pros: Der freundliche Service, Das sehr leckere Essen , Die schöne Lage

Extremely delicious

We had to order and to eat more than needed, because it was so delicious. We had a the Pigbutt Worm (focaccia with fennel, capers and carrots) as a shared starter, the Olm (the fish inspired meal) and the Flamingo Tongue Snail (Croatian "goulash" with gnocchi) as main dishes and we changed our plates after eating the half. Afterwards we had the Tiramisu and were fully satisfied. Great location, very nice service and extremely delicious food. Highly recommended restaurant!
In high season a reservation might be necessary.

Perfect 🐠

We ordered the Gnocchi and “Fish”, and it’s amazing, both! The atmosphere is nice, outside, the service good, for sure I’ll come back!
And stay Open until 23:00 (maybe more), because we ordered our food was around 22:00 and many people arrived around 22:45, 23:00. So the time here is wrong (about Summer time I mean!)

If you have food allergies, don't come here!

My first time in Zadar, I came for dinner every day. This time, I took my 17-months old son and my mum. Everything was nice, until I asked if the dessert contained cashews, as my little son is severely allergic to them. The staff said they'd confirm with the kitchen, returned stating there were no cashews in the dessert I'd ordered and that was that. I gave it to my little boy, who soon after started scratching his eyes. I knew what was happening and asked another member of staff to call a taxi as my son was having an allergic reaction.
In the taxi, he vomited and luckily, I managed to give him his medication and he didn't get respiratory issues. I could have lost him!
I sent them a message on Instagram and didn't even receive a reply. It's been about a week.
Apart from this experience, the food was tasty and the service was friendly, up until the point where I apparently gave a tip that was too low. I hadn't checked beforehand and asked the waiter what was appropriate, to which he said he couldn't comment. He brashly said 'thanks' and blanked me from then on.
Needless to say, we didn't return, which is a shame. I used to love this place and it's the only fully vegan place in Zadar that I know of.

A must-visit for sure!

Zadar's only vegan restaurant is a true gem. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of modern elegance and cozy comfort. The service is impeccable, with staff who are both attentive and passionate about the vegan cuisine.

I tried the Dik Dik, a vegan steak that was perfectly seasoned and delicious. The pasta was equally impressive, and the tiramisu was a highlight — creamy and indulgent. The wine selection also stood out, offering excellent choices to complement the dishes.

For the quality of the experience, I found the prices to be quite reasonable. This vegan restaurant in Zadar is a must-visit, offering a delightful dining experience for everyone. Highly recommended!

Good and healthy food

We ate soup and the "meat" and the "fish" dish and were both very very good. I gave it only 4 stars because it's a bit expensive and the portions could be bigger (in my subjective opinion).

Pros: Really, really good and creative food, Different dishes from other places (no burger etc., Serves all four courses

Cons: Expensive, Could eat more

amazing dinner

I would recommend The Botanist to everyone. The food was really great. They had a great selection of various dishes. Especially the starters and the desserts were to die for. The atmosphere which accompanied the delicious food, and the helpful and nice staff made this evening a special one. And for that experience, the price was also not bad at all.
Very good!

Pros: great food, nice staff, sea view

Best vegan food in Croatia

Wow. This place has to be some of the best vegan food we’ve had. During our stay in Zadar my partner and I ate here about 8 times. We tried everything on the menu, and it was all extremely delicious. Our favourites were the Dik Dik (vegan steak), the pasta, the gnocchi AND the blue footed booby (large salad with soy nuggets). This salad was seriously amazing each time I had it, it never failed to impress. The tiramisu and cheesecake were omg moments for us!!!

The waitstaff were amazing! So friendly, personable and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and cared for. We cannot recommend it enough - it’s a must try in Zadar!

Pros: Amazing food , Best waitstaff , Vegan desserts

Exceptional Vegan Dining Experience

I highly recommend everyone to try this restaurant! Everything was 100% vegan and absolutely delicious. We ordered a salad with homemade nuggets and pasta, and for dessert, we had a bounty-style ice cream. The ambiance and service, particularly from our waiter Budo, were excellent! We will definitely be returning.

Pros: Delicious Food, Great ambience , Great Service

Amazing vegan restaurant

The food here was so delicious and the service was very kind. The prices are slightly more expensive than other restaurants in Zadar but definitely worth it. To start, we received focaccia to eat with local olive oil and balsamic vinegar, which we were not charged for. The main dishes and dessert were also very delicious, especially the cheesecake. I can only recommend this restaurant and will come back for sure during my stay in Zadar.

Nice, but not great

Visited in mid June, so there was a limited menu. We enjoyed the food, but it wasn't exceptional. A little over priced in my opinion, but we are always happy to try and support vegan establishments. Maybe there are better options in main season with an extended menu. Service was great.

Yay for fine dining!

Always very happy to find vegan places that are a bit more upscale. Other reviews stating that the menu wasn’t big enough - I honestly think this is normal for a place like this, to ensure the quality of the dishes you serve. We definitely enjoyed our dishes (both taste and presentation) but have been to better fine dining restaurants. The staff was great, the chef even came to our table to tell about the food when I was curious about some preparation.

Prices are quite high but I guess that’s to be expected. Would come again to try the new menu that is coming out if we were still in the neighbourhood.

Pros: Vegan fine dining experience, Great staff

Cons: Value for money slightly off
