Extra star for the muffin - Edit
Not sure why this cafe is so raved about online and in guides. Too small for the popularity and basic servings. Got a vegan sausage butty that I didn't photograph because it looks better when I make one at home. But the banana and choc chip muffin was so so good, so 3 stars

Cons: Just does the bare minimum , Doesn't actually look appealing?

Disappointing - Edit
Sadly this cafe is a reminder of how far some cafes in The Lakes seem to be behind the times. Very limited vegan choices - a falafel burger for breakfast. Really! There was a full veggie option but with quorn. Lazy. Coffee was so weak it tasted like re-used grounds. Staff not overly friendly. Great vegan date slice and muffin on the plus side. Very expensive. 2 ⭐️s for the view.
Read moreNot improved since my last visit in March. How difficult can it be to buy some vegan sausage or bacon for a morning roll? Same Cons still apply and I was still disappointed.

Great Vegan Burger Let Down By The Service - Edit
The view of Coniston from the Bluebird cafe is absolutely stunning, with a small pebble beach, wooden jetty and lots of ducks and swans. We ordered decaf tea for two with oat milk, delivered on a tray by a sour faced waitress, who said not a word, not even a 'could you please complete your details for track and trace'. We ordered the vegan falafel burgers, served with guacamole, vegan cheese and salad on a lightly toasted bap. The burger was big and tasty on lovely soft bread, although the cheese was a little tasteless, however we demolished every morsel, washed down with lots of tea.
Read moreI was going to partake of a cake afterwards, until I saw a large fly sitting on a scone in the glass cabinet. I know these things happen, but if I could see it buzzing around why didn't the staff. The food was delicious, the place and location are excellent, let down by grumpy silent staff. Every person from the guy taking orders, waiters who brought the tea and food, the young waitress who I asked for extra hot water, who looked at me as if it was something extraordinary, had not a smile or welcome, it was most peculiar.
Would I go back, probably not, so many other places to go, but with such a captive audience with thousands visiting the Lakes every day, perhaps you do not need to make the effort on the customer service front.
Pros: Vegan options, Vegan cakes

Great spot for lunch - Edit
A cafe with a great view... not fully vegan but always vegan options available. I went for the cup of chunky veg. soup with "cheese" & tomato toasty, very tasty. I did find it quite pricey though this came in at £9

Breathtaking lake view - Edit
I had the chunky vegetable soup which wasn't that 'chunky' but still good. It's also served with some good quality bread and when requested with vegan butter. Then I had the homemade felafel burger which was quite good. If it wasn't spiced I would have loved it even more but it was still very good. This also comes with vegan cheese.

Good choice of vegan options in a town practically devoid of vegan food, highly recommend the cauliflower potato pies, very tasty indeed.

Very vegan friendly with great views! - Edit
I'd heard good things about this place and wasn't disappointed. There were several vegan options and I was so impressed to see a vegan cheese and pickle sandwich on the menu, as I don't think I've seen that available anywhere since I went vegan! I went for this with a cup of the country vegetable soup (which was nice and chunky). According to the menu this flavour is usually available, along with another soup of the day, and both are marked as being vegan. On the day the soup of the day was spiced cauliflower (blended smooth). After a cruise on Coniston Water on another day, we went back for a soy hot chocolate while looking out over the lake, also lovely. Would find it hard not to come here every day when in Coniston just because they cater so well to vegans, they just need to sort out the vegan cake!

Lunch at the lakeside - Edit
Great setting overlooking Coniston Water by the pier. A number of vegan options including baked potato and toasties with vegan cheese; cauliflower and potato pie; two vegan soups; vegan muffins and non-dairy milk. Reasonable prices and good quality food although I would check the food you receive is actually vegan as they served us regular mayonnaise on the side of the toasties and baked potato. Excellent vegan muffins.

Great food and amazing staff - Edit
This has long been one of my favourite spots in the Lake District, and my family stays in this village most years. They now have a great vegan menu- the soup and sandwich deal is particularly good, and it’s nice to have a “normal lunch”. They also can make vegan hot chocolate and have trialled vegan cake in the past but it isn’t a regular feature (yet)!
