Great vegan options! - Edit
We ate at The Black Bear three meals in a row! Had minestrone, tofu curry and local greens and roasted veggies. Lovely service and vibe.

Amazing coffee shop! - Edit
The Black Bear had quite a few vegan baked goods that change daily. It was so unexpected to find such tasty sweet treats in a remote location. The staff were friendly, good coffee shop vibe, and tasty coffee too!

Toast & soup - Edit
Had the avocado toast with parmesean-free pesto, on homemade foccacia. Chefs kiss on that. Also ordered a vegan sweet potato cashew soup that was very flavorful. Wasn't a puree which i expected, but brothy with pieces of kale & sweet potato. Those were the only vegan meals, but what I had I would go back for. Also had vegan cookies, did not try.

Focaccia Avocado Toast - Edit
Loved the avocado on focaccia! I also got a trail mix giant vegan cookie and while a bit dry by itself, was great accompanying my vegan chai latter!

Not that awesome, sorry. - Edit
Not a huge avo toast person, so I just ordered a latte and a jam cookie. Both were a bit underwhelming and expensive. It's nice that there's a few vegan options around, but still... I was honestly a bit disappointed after all the rave reviews

They have some vegan pesto avocado toast on focaccia bread and yummy vegan pastries. I recommend the blueberry crumble bar.

An Alaskan vegan oasis! - Edit
After a peek at the menu online, I knew I had to give this place a shot.
Read moreI convinced my group to trek down to the gorge for breakfast and we were not disappointed.
The location is small, but there’s ample outdoor seating. Inside is cramped, so I suggest sitting outside if possible. Plus, the view is unbeatable.
I ordered the avocado toast on focaccia; I was unsure if focaccia was naturally vegan, but the waitress was quick to address my concerns and asked, in the back of the house, for me. They were generous with their avocado and the fresh basil spread was deliciously smooth.
I ordered an iced coffee with hemp milk, but received coconut. When I asked the waitress, she apologized profusely. I told her it was fine and I didn’t want to waste the coffee; she told me to come back when I was finished for a free hemp iced coffee.
Lastly, I ordered a vegan berry oat bar and snagged a local kombucha for the road. The berries were fresh and the oats had a hint of sweet, perfect for a long day of travel.
Overall, my entire party was satisfied with their meals, and I was no exception. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. This is a must visit if you’re down in Denali.
Pros: Plenty of vegan options overall, Great food & service, Beautiful views
Cons: Lack of vegan breakfast entrees
