Disappointed

After all the good reviews I expected more of The Beet. We all found the food pretty blend except for the raw dessert. The arrancinis had nothing special, no flavour for the fettucines and the nachos were just a lot of beans between a bit of chips and avo.

Yummy vegan food in Byron

We had an early booking so the restaurant wasn’t too busy. They had a good selection of wines and beverages to accompany the food, but note the wines are pricey.
We had garlic bread for a starter and received two slices. The bread was divine, but would have loved a slightly larger serve. We had pastas for our mains, a bolognese and a creamy one with mushrooms, peas and house made rice paper bacon. Both pastas were flavourful and fairly decent portions. With the bread it was a good sized meal for two average eaters.

The bolognese was particularly yummy, very close to what I remember a good non-vegan bolognese being. Rich without being overpowering, fresh and satisfying. The creamy pasta was similarly flavourful, with a generous amount of the cauliflower cream sauce and mushrooms stirred through the fettuccine.

Pros: Food quality, flavour and freshness

Cons: Slightly expensive wine (cheapest bottle $38)

This is... Vegan Byron

Genuine service and vegan food makes The Beet in Byron a real pleasure to visit. I ordered The Beet Burger and my companion, the Fettuccini Boscaiola. The complex flavours of the burger and the perfect texture of the sweet potato fries were divine. It's hard to notice that this place is actually vegan, almost a hidden feature that gives hope to other cafes and restaurants that assume that vegan food is without flavour, texture or indulgence. I love that The Beet has avoided the usual pretence that vegan food is hard to do (or do well).

Pros: Vegan, vegan, vegan, Flavour, texture and indulgence, Genuine service (and proper filtered water)

Ridiculously good

This restaurant has rave reviews for a reason - the food is ridiculously good! The stand outs to me so far are the beetroot soup, zucchini flowers, and the mushroom fettuccine. Rich, flavoursome and creative.

Pros: All vegan! , All delicious!

Cons: Not cheap, but worth it for a treat

5* food in Byron!

I loved this place! Tucked away, I wouldn't have found it unless I had this app. The space was cosy and intimate, they aren't licensed but you can BYO and there's local shops near by.

I had the Ravioli to start which was incredible, it's so rare to get vegan ravioli so I was excited to try. My partner had bread and olives which were good quality.

I tried a risotto for my main which was also great!

100% recommend for an evening meal. Lovely staff too.

Pros: All vegan menu , Quality food

Cons: BYO (maybe), No toilet you have to use outside bathroom

Wow

We had some really good food, with very nice waiters. For some reason, right after we left, I had to rush to get back to our hotel to use the facilities - something must have not agreed with me. But the strange thing is, I feel completely fine, so I don't hold it against them! I really recommend this place and if we stayed longer in the Byron bay we would definitely return. Note: most tables bought alcohol from the bottle shop three doors down and paid a 4 AUD cork fee, as the premises don't sell alcohol themselves but will provide you with glasses etc. People with white wine even got a cooler with ice, so well thought through!

Pros: plenty of gf options, helpful with bring your own drink

Cons: They do not sell any alcohol themselves.

Excellent Restaurant !

My partner and I spent the Christmas holiday in the Byron area and were so delighted to dine-out at the Beet on Christmas Eve. The staff was very kind to us, explaining the ingredients used in the dishes, and was attentive to our needs. We both absolutely loved our dishes (entree, main and dessert) and were impressed by the quality and taste of the jackfruit / pulled pork option. We wish we had time to come back and try the rest of the menu or maybe have them open a sister-eatery in Sydney ! All the best to the Beet and we hope they can quickly build up their reputation and customer base.

Pros: Variety of the menu, quality of the dishes, Friendly staff

Top Notch

We were excited about trying Beet on our recent trip to Byron. We went 4 times and were very impressed by the quality and taste of the food as well as the friendly service. This must be the best fine dining veggie restaurant in Australia.Highlights included the bruschetta, stuffed zucchini flowers, cauliflower cream fettuccine and the pulled jackfruit crespelle. We left each time feeling soothed and uplifted by the great food and atmosphere. These positive experiences countered the unfortunate loss of the positive relaxed vibe that Byron once had.We unreservedly recommend this restaurant to eat out at when in Byron.

Pros: Very tasty food, Great attentive staff

Cons: Could have a more extensive dessert menu

Best Meal in Byron

An absolute MUST visit when in Byron. Great variety of sensational hearty food. A lot of vegan places in Byron tend to have only overpriced raw salads, so it's refreshing that I can come to The Beet and have a delicious eggplant parmigiana burger or delectable gnocchi or their amazing jackfruit crespelle! And all the meals are plated so nicely with an elegant touch no matter what you order. It's a relaxed yet stylish environment in central Byron, and I feel fine with stopping in for dinner after a day at the beach and exploring the area. Props to the staff also, always so friendly and attentive. 10/10 for The Beet!

Fine vegan dining experience

We were recommended The Beet by some international/Bryon friends who raved about it and it lived up to its reputation.
The staff were delightful from the time we arrived which added to the ambience and were patient in explaining all the dishes.
The menu is very innovative with complex, complimentary flavours and much creativity.
We had been told we must try the Pulled Pork dish (jackfruit was the stand-in for pork) which triggered a big dilemma for us, being committed vegans for most of our lives. We felt so conflicted in uttering the words that had never come out of our mouths. This may sound trivial but it was a big deal for us and our animals as friends sensibilities. Our local friends who had accompanied us could also relate to this disquiet about a vegan restaurant using meat descriptions.
We did order the dish, and it was delicious. But we are mystified about the need to call it by a meat name.
Apart from this, The Beet has all the right ingredients for a wonderful dining experience.

Pros: Delicious food, Lovely staff, Lovely environment

Cons: The mock meat (seitan) and terminology

absolutely delicious

I have waited a very long time for a completely vegan eatery in Byron and finally my prayers have been answered! Super lovely staff and one of the best meals I've had in ages. Heaps of different dishes ranging from hearty to super light and they have a great selection of yummy drinks too. My non-vegan parents adored it also!

Good vegan option in the main street

This place is easier to find, since it's in the collection of restaurants/stores to the side of Woolworths.

I ordered the spicy seitan, which was two skewers of spiced seitan with a salad. The salad was good, and the seitan tasted nice, but was way too chewy - what some people would call 'tough.'

I had a sparkling lemon myrtle drink with it which was sweetened with xylitol, which was different. It wasn't very sweet, but it was nice.

I was sitting outside, and someone at a nearby table lit up a cigarette (a visitor to the country, i think). The smoke annoyed me, and i had to draw the staff's attention to it before they asked the smoker to put the cigarette out.

Despite my tough seitan and the smoke, the staff were friendly, and i wouldn't condemn the place by these misses.

Definitely worth a visit - especially if they improve the seitan and are more vigilant about smokers.

Fantastic dinner option

We stopped in at my partner's home town of Byron Bay on our way back to Sydney, and knowing that there was a pure vegan dinner option available was a real bonus this trip. And what amazing food! Definitely comparable with some of the fine plant based dining available in Sydney and Melbourne, this restaurant really ticks all the boxes! Together, our party of three shared the open burrito, pulled jackfruit crespelle, and Philly "cheese steak" (hail seitan!), and can highly recommend absolutely all of them. Beautifully presented food in a marvellous setting and accompanied by friendly, outgoing, and knowledgeable staff. Can't wait for our next visit!

Pros: Super friendly staff, Immaculate presentation, Comfortable fine dining setting

Finally! A good Vegan Restaurant in Byron Bay

As a Plant Based Whole Foods eater, I have struggled to find any options for getting a good meal in Byron Bay where there isn't some sort of animal product used in the dishes.
Beet advertises itself as Vegan, and I checked on several 'suspicious' sauces and ingredients in my meal, and the waitress was very clear in explaining there are NO animal prducts used in their kitchen.
My wife and I both enjoyed our meals and a shared desert immensely, and the price of a night out to dinner was not unusually high or mentionably low.
The service was excellent, and seating comfortable. The interior of the restaurant could use a little colour on the walls, but there is a nice looking set of plant covered beams overhead. Why not take advantage of the incredible colours in a beet and use it on a wall or two?
We could not finish our generously portioned meals, so the waitress graciously had our leftovers packed in nice containers so we could take them home.
We will go back to Beet, probably again and again, as there are a number of entree's and Mains dishes we'd like to try.
I will keep my fingers crossed that Beet survives for years to come, unlike many of the restaurants that try to survive in Byron.

Pros: All vegan Menu! Delicious food., Friendly and timely service., Clean and tidy if not a little boring decor.

Cons: Oil! Unfortunately oil is used in cooking, some dishes are very oily

ultra yummy

The quality of the food was very good and even my omnivore husband loved every bit of our meal. Staff could not be more friendly, we felt very welcome. I found the burger price a bit too expensive, but the taste was excellent.
