Great menu, okay food - Edit
The decor in here could definitely be described as rustic - a little grubby around the edges - but this adds to the Angel’s charm.
Read moreI was really excited to try the menu, as there’s so many great vegan choices on there.
The food was okay. I had the tempeh sandwich and fries with some frickles. The sandwich was nice but nothing special. The fries were very skinny and very salty - I really liked this but it wasn’t to my partners liking. The frickles went from being too hot to quite soggy with seemingly no in between.
I probably wouldn’t come back for food, but I do want to try the sticky toffee pudding.
Also, the toilet had no loo roll.

Angel of Nottingham - Edit
Heaven!!

Disappointed - Edit
We went yesterday specifically to try the vegan options. Half the food was overcooked, blackened, hard and dry. The onion rings however, weren't even cooked and there were clumps of raw flour in them. I ate 1 bite of an onion ring and a tiny piece of cold, burnt and rock hard bread with some poor quality olive oil. I couldn't get through any of the mushroom calamari as they were all burnt and we could literally snap them in half and then mushroom wings were so overcooked that after I'd taken some of the blackened batter off, the mushroom inside was again, rock hard. I spoke to a staff member (after being actively ignored by one girl on 2 occasions) and she was incredibly dismissive and told me that that's how they were meant to come! Absolute waste of money. They were completely unwilling to resolve anything. I messaged them afterwards and even though it's been read, they've not bothered to reply. I've thankfully never had an experience like it. Spoke to a couple of other people since and they've been equally disappointed. We certainly won't be back.

Vegan roast dinner - Edit
Great vegan options. I had the vegan nut roast which even had a vegan Yorkshire pudding. My boyfriend had roast beef so it was good to both be able to get similar meals.

Tempeh and Chips 👌 - Edit
I haven't been to a pub in over 5 years since being vegan where I've actually enjoyed the food, until this place. The tempeh and chips was so good! And I liked that they had a vegan option for pretty much all of their menu.

Used to visit regularly - Edit
Favourite place in Nottingham. The menu gets updated and they often have new options. There's always a few vegan items to choose from which taste amazing and are always a very big size. Couldn't recommend more.

Plenty of choice - Edit
Excellent variety of vegan options. I had the vegan fish (tempeh) & chips which came with some very delicious tartar sauce 😋 Only downside was the chips were a bit too oily like they hadn't been drained well. Can't wait to go back and try the tacos, the person I was with ordered them and they looked amazing!!

Nice Sunday dinner & alcohol free options - Edit
Really nice Sunday dinner - nut roast and seitan options. They ran out of most veg but gave us extra seitan and more of greens etc which was plenty. Forgot to take a photo of the roast so took a photo of the Sunday menu. Also have a good option of alcohol free beers and one cider.

Excellent range, but food itself nothing spectacular - Edit
This is a great pub all round, and I would totally recommend it to anyone. Most items can be ordered vegan, so the range is excellent. Service was good and they have a great range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Food itself was just ok. Tasty enough but nothing incredible. Chips were hot but very greasy. I was happier with the options than the result. I have had their vegan roast on a previous visit and that was very good.

Great array of vegan pub food - Edit
Went to the Angel for the first time in ages this week, the new menu is great with loads of vegan food as always. I had the Mac and cheese and halloumi fries. I was really wanting to try the mozzarella dippers but they were out of stock, apparently they are amazing so I’ll have to go back again! They still do the 50% off food on Wednesday too which makes for an excellent value meal!

Gone downhill - Edit
Ordered a vegan platter which took more than 45 minutes to arrive and then was meat. Staff couldn't have really cared less and we requested a refund and went elsewhere. Kitchen was gross, glasses were not clean. Disappointing as this place used to be good but now I won't bother going again as plenty of nicer placed in Nottingham.

Everything on the menu has a vegan option, even the seafood platter! The price of the vegan food is generally cheaper too and clearly marked on the menu. When ordering staff also checked if you wanted the vegan option or animal option which helps anyone who might accidentally order wrong.

Highly disappointed - Edit
Went on account of their entire menu being made vegan friendly for Veganuary. Their seitan was so thin and overcooked it may as well have been glass with an overseasoning of rosemary. Their Hemp Burger was so burnt it was practically charcoal. Response of staff was essentially, oh well that's a shame. Avoid.

NOT DISABILITY FRIENDLY - Edit
I visited The Angel (14/10/20) with the vision of having some vegan food in a friendly, welcoming and chilled environment with my daughter.
Read moreUpon entering I was very abruptly and rudely told I “had to put a mask on” I informed the member of staff
I am ‘medically exempt’ to which I was informed the only way I could enter the establishment to eat is if I had a card stating I was exempt and was to wear it through my visit!?!
In a bid to defend my right as a disabled person who for medical reasons can’t where a mask, i entered in to a debate with a hostile and ignorant member of staff, who in front of costumers, insensitivity asked me to state what my medical condition is that prevents me from wearing a mask and numerous times stated I either had to present and wear a card saying I am disabled/exempt or wear a mask.
When I entered The Angel the said member of staff was using a laptop at a table, I kindly asked her check the gov.uk website with reguards the polices/rules around mask a wearing, to which she declined stating she was already familiar with it and continued to state numerous inaccuracies: “there is an application form to apply for an exception card on the gov.uk website” (incorrect) and I have to state my disability, presumably so the doctor/barista can ratify that the disability qualifies exemptment (obviously again incorrect )
I appreciate these are very challenging times, the advice the government is giving changes daily and it’s hard to keep up, I also appreciate that it’s a scary time, and people want this all to end and life to return to what was normal pre covid and for some people its frustrating that some individuals don’t wear masks (some maybe even flouting the rules, I except that) but no one has the right to challenge an individual with such ferocity and tenacity, that basically translates as “I don’t believe a word your saying”
The staff at The Angel are evidently not trained in disability awareness, and don’t exercise inclusiveness or empathy and exhibit prejudicial and tyrannical traits.
I left feeling very incredible frustrated, angry, powerless, incredibly embarrassed and with my dignity stripped from me in front of my 10 year old daughter and humiliated in front of costumers.
An absolutely horrendous experience, that’s left me feeling confused and apprehensive about visiting other places (without a mask, as unfortunately is the case for me)

Favourite vegan food in Nottingham - Edit
Been many times and the food never disappoints. Best „fish” and chips I have ever had in my life. A lot of choices, so anyone can find what they like. 50% off on all food on Wednesday makes it one of the cheapest places for vegan food in the city. I adore the vibe of the place and could recommend to anyone who would like to try tasty vegan food.
