Seperate Vegan Menu - Edit
This restaurant is truely amazing. I have been several times, and not once regretted it. The staff are extremely attentive and knowledgeable on vegan dishes. There is a seperate menu for you to select from full of vegan dishes. There is also a seperate menu for gluten-free dishes, if that is relevant to you. Overall, a really great restaurant with an amazing atmosphere.

Huge vegan menu, great options! - Edit
Lots of healthy options, some not so healthy, but all very tasty. Definitely surprised by the size of the place and how packed it was, plus all the vegan options in the menu. Recommend booking, since the place is always full. Try the vegan duck and chicken options, all very good.

Delicious, lots of variety - Edit
This place is a Sydney institution! Lots of vegan options (just ask for the separate vegan menu), and always reliable food and service. If it's your birthday, if you let the staff know they can even bring you out a vegan dessert with a candle especially for your birthday. Perfect place to go with large groups of non-veg people

Lovely surprise - Edit
We stumbled upon this place and we were so happy we did. Service was so welcoming and attentive. Digital vegan menu with lots of choices. Penang top dish, tamarind tofu so so good, fresh summer rolls also lovely. Very good.

Just awful - Edit
Update 2022/12
Read moreJust awful dining experience
The staff is so bad! I went with my friend and the staff is disorganized and rude
She got her pad Thai after 5 min straight away my curry arrived 15 min later and was cold
Not lukewarm but cold
I got hold of the staff and he returned it without saying anything. I waited for another 10-15 min and the curry came back - still cold!
I then had another waitress come over she looked upset, pretended not to understand when I said that the food is cold, then took it away and brought it back 5 min later. It was hot but she placed it infront of me saying that’s the hottest we can do. And turned away.
Nothing they didn’t even apologize for the inconvenience
From 2020
The best Thai food I had out of Thailand
I am only allowed 4 stars because it offers meat but it has a clomplete veggie and vegan menu

Lovely spot with amazing service! - Edit
Lots of vegan options (including mango sticky rice for dessert - my favorite). Staff is extremely kind, attentive, and efficient.
Read morePretty darn authentic except for the spice level. Seems a little dampened down to appeal to Australian spice tolerances.
Very happy with my meal overall. Would recommend!

Very tasty Thai & fab vegan menu! - Edit
Ask for the vegan menu. I ordered the vegetarian panang curry which came with tofu and lots of veg- wow it was absolutely delicious. Also had a fresh watermelon ice drink and I loved it. My bf and I shared the curry puffs; they were a lot smaller than expected, but they were delicious nonetheless.
Read moreIt’s very busy here every time I come, so you can sometimes expect a small wait or book in advance if you’re coming with lots of people. Luckily the restaurant is huge with a crazy amount of seating available, so my bf and I were seated straight away on a busy Tuesday night.
Great service, pricing is reasonable for the vege options, drinks menu is extensive, and I love the ambiance. Recommend highly checking this one out, especially if you’re going out for a meal for omnis.
I leave feeling satisfied every time I come! Great spot.
Pros: Great decor, Full of flavour & spice, Good portion sizes

Best Vegan Food - Edit
This restaurant is not even vegan (there's a separate vegan menu) and yet it's probably the best vegan food I've ever had, it's my go to restaurant when eating out.

They have a fully seperate, 100% vegan menu (most of the menus are maroon, but the vegan menu is black). Excellent food, 9/10. 10% off with takeaway too. Mushroom steak and veggies is incredible

Loved it - Edit
Overall had a nice experience. It was very busy however we did not wait long at all for anything we ordered and the staff were lovely. I had the Vegan Chicken Cashew Nut stir fry with rice and it was delicious! The 'chicken' also tasted a lot better than any other mock meat I've ever had. My partner tried it and thought they might have messed up my order with real chicken ... The dessert was also amazing - Black sticky rice with coconut and mango but I didn't ask if this was vegan I just assumed but could be wrong. The cocktails were also really nice I had a lychee margarita!

Make sure you ask for the vegan menu! - Edit
Thai Pothong is a great place for vegan Thai food but you have to ask for the special vegan menu (they have a gluten-free one too) or you can end up with something non-veg (even if you order from the vegetarian section of the regular menu - confusing!). I particularly love the vegan choo chee and mock duck salad. It's a big, noisy place so the atmosphere can be overwhelming at times but you'll always get a seat!

Veg UNfriendly and abusive - Edit
People should check very carefully about anything labelled as allegedly vegetarian in this place.
Read moreI was shocked to find this restaurant listed on this site as veg friendly, in view of my one and only experience of the place. It was one of the most veg UNfriendly places I have ever been to. The menu displayed outside listed a large number of veg dishes, so I decided to take my mixed veg-omni family here for a special occasion. On closer inspection once inside, the first supposedly veg item was vegetables stir fried with oyster sauce. Actual oyster sauce made from dead oysters. We asked what was in the other 'vegetarian' dishes. Every single one of them contained both chicken stock and oyster or fish sauce. They could not make any dishes without these, as the sauces were all pre-made. They said we could have fried rice without the meat, eggs and prawns.
This sounded pretty boring and non-special so we decided to go elsewhere. But we politely explained to the waiter that chicken stock and oyster/fish sauce are not vegetarian and should not be labelled as such on the menu. He proceeded to argue relentlessly with us that yes they were and that vegetarians come here all the time and eat these things.
I noticed that the place had a received an award from the Thai restaurant society. So I sent them an email the next day describing the problem. Well guess what, there is no such society. It is simply a fabricated entity which is actually this restaurant! No wonder it wins the best restaurant award every year! Five minutes after sending the email I got a phone call from the restaurant owner who abused me and repeated the same diatribe that we got on the night - that it is okay for vegetarians to eat chicken stock and fish sauce, that we all do so, and that the vegetarians who come to the restaurant all eat it as it is in everything.
If this place has in fact changed more recently, I acknowledge that has to be a good thing. But I would not trust anything they said or put on their menu. I will not be ever setting foot in the place. Their audacity in wanting to be listed on this site is further evidence of their wish to dupe vegetarians, as far as I can see.
Pros: None
Cons: Misinformation on menu, Unfriendly staff , Abusive owner

They have an entirely vegan menu, with a lot of options, but you need to ask the waiting staff for one. They probably don't put the vegan options on the main menu.

Excellent Thai that caters well for veges - Edit
I've been frequently Thai Pathong for years and have seen the vege menu consistently grow, and they now have an exclusive vegan menu. My personal fave is the mock duck salad and the tofu choo chee.

PS. There is another Thai Pathong in Marrickville which doesn't have the same vego options unfortunately.

Surprisingly extensive options - Edit
Thai Pothong have introduced a vegan menu, and you need to know to ask for a it. Once you do, it offers an extensive list of options, both entrées and mains. You can have a look on their website in advance (http://www.thaipothong.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Vegan-Menu1.pdf). The golden tamarind tofu was very special... and the tofu choo chee was good too.
Read moreThis restaurant has a very good reputation in Sydney -- the service is fast and friendly, and they get a lot of people through. I've often gone there, before the introduction of the vegan menu, as my work colleagues love it there... but it's been slim pickings for vegans in the past. I don't know if there's a new chef, or they've simply caught onto the vibe on King Street... The vegans are taking over (mwahawhaw). A nice change from the usual choices in Newtown, and good to see a local business supporting vegans, even if they're not vegan.
Pros: Great food, Great service, Bustling but not rushed
