Not very good

Unfortunately this place was very expensive and the food was bland. We had the tom kha, pumpkin curry, red curry and I got a thai iced tea. The thai tea was odd and powdery and everything else was not palatable for me or my boyfriend. Thankfully the waitress was understanding and we didn't have to pay for anything that we couldn't eat.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Expensive , Lacking flavors

Wondrous Thai food!

I was passing through Sacramento, and so fortunate to “bump” into this restaurant as I headed back to my car from Babes vegan donut shop, literally a few minutes away. Stopped to look and changed our dinner plans. If I lived in the area, I would eat here frequently. I’ve been to other Thai restaurants that have vegan menus, but Thai Basil’s is more than just a few veganized curries and appetizers. They offer an extensive, vegan menu, ( many GF choices) using traditional Thai flavors and incorporating some unusual ingredients very creatively. I had an amazing Pineapple Fried Rice, composed of non-greasy fried rice, pineapple, cashews, tofu and cranberries! Also 2 outstanding appetizers: Holy Tofu—breaded fried tofu nuggets in curry oil and Crispy Fried Mushroom; breaded oyster mushrooms in hot sour sauce with a creamy sriracha dipping sauce. Do not overlook the “seasonal specials “ menu, where I found the mushrooms, an entire page of additional vegan dishes like “Impossible” pot stickers, and “Beyond” spicy kimchi fried rice. Clearly this is a chef who believes vegans deserve a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended!!!!

Pros: Extensive, creative vegan menu., Fresh-tasting, not greasy, flavorful., GF, soy-free and Kids options; large portions.

Sooooo yummy!

Had the tofu massaman curry and it was super tasty! And had the spicy eggplant…asked for it to be between mild and medium and they nailed it perfectly! Also had the sweet coconut rice and mango for dessert, the rice was excellent but the mango could have been riper. It’s a little spendy, but worth it for the yummy food, cute atmosphere, and friendly staff.

Blown away

I cannot believe I hadn’t given this place a chance. I typically went up stairs to the Veg (same owner btw), because I thought it was your typical Thai food with basic vegan options (pad tai, curry, etc) but boy was I wrong. This place has a creative all vegan lunch and dessert menu.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Vegan dessert menu, Friendly staff

Cons: Expensive, Parking might be hard to find

Coming in clutch!

We wanted to hit up Veg cafe but they were closed but we quickly learned that Thai Basil downstairs had a dedicated vegan menu! I ordered the pad thai w/ just egg. Overall it was a solid and tasty meal. Their pad thai was more on the savory side than on the sweet and tangy side. I would of preferred it to be less oily but in a crunch thai basil saved the day.

Favourite place in Sacramento

Every time we come to Sacramento we eat here. The food is exceptional. The menu changes and I’m always happy. It’s the best Thai food hands down anywhere.

Pros: A full vegan menu , Outdoor seating so you can take your pup , Interesting flavours

Can’t wait to go back!

Literally one of the best meals I have ever eaten! The vegetables were so fresh and delicious they tasted like they were just plucked from a garden out back. The meal was perfectly prepared and the presentation delightful. I would share a photo but I ate it all 😭 Today I had the Beyond samosas and fried asparagus with coconut rice. I cannot wait to go back! Ps they have a fully vegan menu in addition to a regular menu- and upstairs (same owners) is a fully vegan restaurant called veg cafe that I plan to check out next ❤️❤️❤️ would have given them 5 stars ⭐️ if I could have!

Solid Thai food

It was busy inside so we sat on the porch where it was quieter. The menu was clearly labeled with vegetarian and vegan options, and there were plenty to choose from! We ordered corn cakes (off of the Sacramento vegan chef challenge menu), drunken noodles, green curry, and mango sticky rice. When we ordered the main courses with tofu the waitress asked if we wanted it vegan so it was nice that she confirmed. The food was good, not the best Thai food I’ve ever had but it was still pretty tasty. The mango sticky rice was my favorite!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Waitress was knowledgeable about the vegan diet, Outside seating, with heaters

Vegan option

Separate Vegan menu but not truly "vegan" as some items have egg. Make sure to indicate that you want vegan. The staff was nice and accommodating. My drunken noodle dish was tasty and filling.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Pricy

Good atmosphere

It’s a nice restaurant, not fully vegan so there’s always a little worrying. The food is good and I let the waitress know we are vegan, and she seemed to understand and confirm that the rice dish I was ordering was vegan.

VEGANS- BEWARE

The waiter did not understand what vegan meant and served us a dairy based sauce. After insisting he clarify and confirm it was a soy based cream in the sauce, we ate it, only to have another waitress later tell us they only have dairy-based cream sauces. The whole restaurant smells quite bad. We ordered two of the same coconut soup (labelled vegan on the menu), and one soup tasted distinctly different from the other. They insisted there was no fish but it was too disgusting to finish. Overall I do not trust that this place understands veganism despite having a connected veg restaurant (which was closed) and a “vegan” menu. Stay away!

Friendly Service

Nice atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and even playing with my 2 year old son. I got the Pad Thai with no eggs to make it vegan. They added tofu and veggies on top and it was delicious!

Pros: Vegan options, Very friendly staff

Plenty of vegan options, fresh food

We stopped by for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and opted for the daily menu: salad, main dish and drink of your choice (tea or coffee), which costs 14.5 without tax. They were nice enough to agree to veganise the daily menu for us: no eggs and coconut milk instead of condensed milk.
The dishes that can be made vegan on request are clearly marked on the menu and they do have a lot of options!
The price are in the medium range: for example any main dish costs around 13-14$.
Our meal was enjoyable, food was fresh and delicious, and what really stood out is the Thai iced tea, served with condensed coconut milk.
Service was friendly.
We will definitely go back when visiting Sacramento!

Pros: Loads of vegan options, Vegan items clearly marked

Cons: Serves meat :(
