Thai Restaurant with Plenty of Vegan Options - Edit
Imagine being invited to a Thai friend’s home for dinner. You sat down and when you asked if they have vegan dishes, your friend answered, “Yes, of course, we can prepare most of our dishes without any animal products!” “Great!”, you said, but inside you are jumping up and down in excitement.
Read moreYou started off with “Po Pia Sod”, which are fresh salad rolls made with tofu, cucumber, lettuce, and rice noodles wrapped in rice paper. It was served with peanut sauce and Thai basil sauce. The plate looked immaculate and tasted fresh, cool, and crunchy.
A big fan of vegetables, you also tried the “Pad Kow Pod On”, stir-fry baby corns, onions, snow peas, mushroom, and carrots, served in light gravy soy sauce. It went well with a side of aromatic brown rice. It had an amazing sweet flavor and the vegetables were done just right.
Finally, you decided to try a mild version of “Pad Kee Mow”, also known as Drunken Noodle, made with thick rice noodle pan fried with tofu, tomato, Thai basil, spicy chopped fresh chilies, and soy sauce. It is hearty, filled with flavor, and is made for those who love spicy food.
Your friend offered dessert, but you had to get going so you decided to take “Khao Niao Mamuang” home with you. It is the famous Thai Coconut Sticky Rice with Mango. The mango is perfectly ripe, and the side of coconut cream brought the dish together. You fondly remembered the time you spent at your friend’s place and hoped that you get to visit again soon.
Well, as you know, this was my personal experience at Thai Basil (in one night). I’ve been there a few times before but decided to share this most recent visit with you (1st week of Oct 2017). Aside from the dishes above, my favorite is the “Authentic Vegan Pad Thai” which is not in the menu but they will gladly make it for you. Also, you can order the Thai Iced Tea with Coconut Milk versus dairy. Thai Basil has a warm atmosphere and very friendly service. Yes, the “friend” in the story above is the restaurant’s hostess and waitress named Milky. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait for an invitation to visit my friend’s place, because you can stop by during their restaurant hours. You may also call and place a to-go order if you’d like to eat at home. I highly recommend Thai Basil and feel fortunate that there is a real gem with vegan options here in this area.
Now, make that imaginary visit to your Thai friend’s home a reality and try Thai Basil Restaurant!
