Good option in the city center | Boa opção no centro - Edit
Nice buffet in Rio's city center. The options are quite varied and staff is quite nice. The food ends up being a bit expensive if compared to the price of restaurants like Refeitorio Organico and Vegano da Tijuca (which have a all-you-can-eat buffet for a fixed price), but the price is still okay for buffets in general.

Bom self-service vegano no centro do Rio.
Cons: It can be expensive | Pode sair caro

Delicious! - Edit
This is located in the center of the city, farther from where I was staying, so I got an Uber to get there. The food was delicious! There were many options, that I was only able to fit in 2 full plates that came out to around 60 Reals. They do weight the plate and charge you by kilo. I was hoping they offered an all you can eat option, but it didn’t seem like they did that. For those who are unsure how this works, when you arrive (location is on the main street in a narrow staircase going to the second floor) you take a plate, serve yourself, then place your plate on the scale so the person can weigh it. They then give you a small piece of paper with the cost of that plate. You find a seat, eat, and if you would like another plate, just grab another clean one, serve yourself, and take the plate to be weighed again, handing them the same paper where they wrote the first amount that the first plate weighed in at in Reals. Once done eating, take that paper to the main cashier to pay, and that’s it! Highly recommend this place!!!

The food tasted great!
Read moreThere are lots of options on the buffet and I ended up eating more than I usually do because I wanted to try lots of stuff!
The only thing that I didn't like was that some of the options were cold... they should keep the food warm. And we went there right after it opened...

This restaurant is awesome : everything looks very fresh, the owner is nice, and the food is good and to be paid by weight. I eat a lot and paid 49R$ for fullfilling my stomach including drinks and dessert.

My personal highlight. What a place! And so delicious! - Edit
Once you’ve found this place (follow the unmarked, slim staircase all the way up) you’ll be spoilt with an incredibly delicious selection of food in an extremely cosy surrounding. Loved this buffet place.

Be careful with the snacks near the cashier, some of them are NOT vegan - Edit
One of my favorites restaurants in the city, the price is ok and all the food available in the buffet is vegan. But be careful with the stuff near the cashier, some of them may contain dairy products. If you are into lime, drink “garapa”, made from lime juice and brown sugar.

Pay by weight buffet lunch - Edit
Thanks to the previous comments we found this place easily. Arrived around 1:30pm on a Friday and there were plenty of tables available. Just choose what you want from the buffet and pay for the weight. The food was good value. I have no idea what we were eating but most of it tasted good.

Tempeh is a pay-by-weight buffet style vegan restaurant in Rio’s city center. The restaurant isn’t too small, but gets packed up really quick during lunch hours. Different dishes are served every day, and vegan snacks, chocolate and ice cream are also available at the cashier. It's pretty affordable, perfect for a quick lunch.

You won't be disappointed! - Edit
Especially if you were having a hard time as a vegan in Rio to find something suitable (without having to tweak your dish in another non-plant-based joint). Go here if you want to treat yaself! At first I wasn't sure if every bit on the menu was animal-cruelty-free (nor if all was organic, if that's your criteria), but to be perfectly honest I relied on my gut feeling & just went for it. Had a feast with a plate by weight, a 'living sprouts juice' & a fruit salad. I cannot recall the names of each meal, but everything I tried was delicioso! One of the owners (the guy at the pay desk) speaks English & was very helpful. As others pointed out, the venue is a tad bit hard to find & may seem a bit odd. Also, it's not inside the fancy neighbourhoods of the likes of Copacabana, Ipanema or say Botafogo (where you might reside), but what counts in the end is the quality you get for a reasonable price & the satisfaction of your starving stomach =) Therefore worth a trip 100%. In fact I was so stoked by the food, I even bought some take out to save for later & was so strenghtend by it, I walked all the way back to my apartment in Laranjeiras (roughly 1h by espadrilles)!

Reasonable price and good food - Edit
There are a nice range of options for lunch. Everything I tried was tasty and I really like the rustic environment. Only pay attention (as mentioned on an early comment) to the itens at the "emporium" near the cashier: lots of them aren't vegan, or not even vegetarian, like bubblegum.

delicious! - Edit
Absolutely delicious! There are so many options of both hot and cold food. Every dish I tried was so tasty, I enjoyed it so much I had to get two plates! It is reasonably priced but there is no all you can eat option, it's is purely pay per kilo.

Vegan variety - Edit
It's a hidden place in downtown, even a little bit sketchy. But the food is good and there are plenty of options. They also have a good green juice. I had my meal and the juice for 26 reais, not expensive. Found interesting that there's a great variety even though the buffet is small, eg. veggie fish made of cará

Excellent on all fronts - Edit
Great location in centro, although you'll need to be looking for #24 because there's no sign out front. The decor is lovely rustic Brazilian, and the food is fantastic, with tons of all vegan options. For about $9 I had way more Thani could finish. This is buffet by the kilo and the selection was very broad. The mouceca was really special, and everything was excellent. Two thumbs up! A previous reviewer mentioned that the atmosphere was sultry and warm, but the a/c was working great as of January 2015.

Delicious food but sultry - Edit
The food is really interesting.
Read moreBut the place is sultry, specially in the Rio's summer.
The food cooked at there ir vegan, but the restaurant sells no-vegan industrial third-party products, like non-vegan wines, milk candy and honey-based desserts. Be careful if you are vegan.
Beyond some weight limit the price you pay does not increase anymore. I like to go starvated at saturdays (for not sleep at work) and eat two full plotes paying a little more than US$10.
Pros: Variated vegan food, Slightly expensive
Cons: Not wheelchair accessible, Sultry place, specially in summer, Kitchen has bad appearance
