I have arrived, I am home. - Edit
Like many others I have been wanting to come here for a while. We made it today. What a lovely cafe - we'll done on creating a lovely but simple cafe and most importantly plant based. I love the environment and the coffee and cake. I will be back with various relatives to try other things on the menu after having coffee today and 3 different cakes - so great to be able to have anything on the menu and for you to be flying the plant based/Vegan menu.

Quaint cafe with a lovely view - Edit
A fully vegan cafe in such a cute location! We stopped here on our way to York and were so surprised because it’s in such a lovely location.
Read moreThere were lots of light lunch options but we both got soup - I got the roasted red pepper one and my partner got the mushroom one. They were both really good and came with a bread roll! The food was reasonably priced and were good sized portions. We were also eyeing up the cakes (they all looked incredible, we will have to go back and try them)
Pros: Great location, Lots of great options, Tasty food

Unique place in lovely setting - Edit
I have been coming here since Ruth opened with a portaloo outside. Her determination to grow and develop the business in an awkward old building in a rural location that frequently has to close due to the river flooding every time we have one of those named storms, is second to none- she never complains and is always back open again asap. The building is a gorgeous historic Georgian rectory by a river and the constraints of the layout and utilities mean the kitchen is small and fully open plan which the staff determinedly work with. The food is simple, homemade vegan cooking done well. The wait times can be long when busy, but they are so up against it you can’t complain. I wish them better luck and every success.

The BEST afternoon tea! - Edit
What a FANTASTIC PLACE! I live 200 miles away, and while visiting my pal in the area, I was utterly delighted when she took me here for Vegan Afternoon Tea (book at least 48hrs in advance and a deposit required). It was a delight. Everything was fresh, delicious and delectable. I'm vegan and savoured every mouthful - but you seriously don't need to be vegan to appreciate this amazing place. A gorgeous setting, the most friendly welcoming staff and food to rival the best tea rooms in the country. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon, I'll be back!

Amazing - Edit
What a beautiful place. But it was on a terrible day weather wise, blustery and raining very heavily. Only makes me want to return to be able to go for a walk along the canal.
Read moreThe unusual banqueting hall and snug are perfect for a lunch meeting friends, as I did yesterday.
The smells were delicious as you opened the door and were greeted by products to buy fro. Local makers.
The menu is small but everything we had was made on the premises, very tasty and all plant based! I still find it exciting when I have the choice of everything!
The cakes were phenomenal and so difficult to chose which to eat now and which to take home.
Perfect surroundings, excellent service and the food is all worth searching this gem out.

Visited again on Saturday 6/7/24 for lunch. The vegan egg mayo sandwich was delicious but it wasn't a sandwich it was a cob, and it wasn't one cob it was two! And it was more like cottage cheese, I loved it!
Read moreB had the pea and mint soup which he thought was very nice, it did look and smell lovely.
I had a hot chocolate which was full of chocolaty deliciousness.
I had to take half of mine home as two cobs are too much (for me) and so the cake was take out as well. Choc and ginger for B, and caramel and apple for me. Delicious.

Wow! Amazing Food - Edit
Have been wanting to try for ages and finally made it today, I was not disappointed. Great choice of vegan food and cakes, wanted to try everything! Between 3 of us, we shared a cheese scone, an egg mayo sandwich, sausage roll and a sausage and onion sandwich. All really fresh and tasty, came with substantial salad garnish. So good, Omni husband declared it delicious and wants to go back. Delicious selection of cakes, we were stuffed so took a couple of slices home. I will definitely be back here asap!

Tea By The Lock - Edit
Beautiful characterful building overlooking the lock. Picturesque and peaceful setting, I could’ve sat and enjoyed the surroundings for much longer than I was able to on this visit. Inside is very cosy and the log burner was much appreciated on this cold day! I had tea and cake but there were plenty of other things on the menu I’d have liked to try, particular the scones which were the size of a side plate! The cake for me was very sweet, and I’m no stranger to sugar! The tea arrived in a great big teapot and was good value for money. Very friendly staff who made me feel quite welcome. I look forward to returning and trying the afternoon tea sometime. Small free car parking area. Dog friendly venue.

I often walk or canoe around Naburn and I was aware the Banqueting house was being used as a cafe so I decided to pay a visit and I'm glad I did.

The Best Cakes - Edit
Love love love Tea by the Lock! We keep going back for their amazing cakes, trying all the different flavours as they're just SO good. It's also in a great location, with outdoor seating overlooking the river and lock, so we've been sitting outside watching the sand martens swooping over the water. The cafe is dog-friendly too, even selling vegan dog ice-creams (which our dog adores). The staff are always really lovely and friendly, and I know they have big plans for the future, so we look forward to seeing what comes next, as we'll certainly continue visiting.

Unique and quirky! - Edit
If you're near Selby get yourself to Tea By The Lock! Completely vegan cafe in an amazing Georgian banqueting hall. We popped in for coffee and cake (photo of filter coffee, no fancy coffee machine yet but it's in their plans!). The homemade cake was raspberry, rose and vanilla and was the best I've had in a long time and was perfectly served on vintage crockery! It was so good we went back for lunch after a walk down the river! We had sausage sarnies in gorgeous ciabatta buns with loads of fried onion and lashings of sauce! Oh my, I want to go back again just thinking about it! They have lots of other choices so we definitely will! Ruth, the owner is so friendly and welcoming that you just want to stay the whole day! She's got tons of ideas so watch this space!

Lovely place - Edit
My friend took me here for lunch when I visited York and I loved it! The food was great and hearty, they have a large selection of cakes (5 or 6 whole we were there), and the owner is lovely and always up for chat. It's a bit out of the way but so worth a visit. Prices were great too, I'm sure I'll be back!
