Delicious! - Edit
Tavlin has lots of vegan options which are clearly marked, and the owners and employees are friendly and knowledgeable about what vegan means. They have frozen vegan borekas to cook at home, and the best hummus and Moroccan eggplant salad. They’ve got to-go soups & salads too. They serve hot borekas at the store but those are not vegan, unfortunately. Pick up a pack of their pitas to go with your hummus bc they’re the best!

There’s plenty of parking in the side lot. I always stop here whenever I’m on LI.
Pros: Incredible hummus & eggplant salad, Friendly & knowledgeable staff, Lots of vegan options

Vegan options at this shop - Edit
The owner was so friendly. She helped me pick out a tahini and pointed out all the vegan goodies she had. Even gave me a sample of her hummus and eggplant to taste! The hummus was a bit more tahini-forward (I’m super fussy about my hummus) than I prefer but definitely well made and silky. The eggplant was tasty just needed a tad more salt for me. The borekas were bomb! I bought the mixed veggie one which kinda tasted like a samosa with phyllo dough. Didn’t need to add anything else to enjoy it!

Cons: Limited parking, No vegan hot food (due to egg wash used)

The best (‘hidden’) spot around! - Edit
I have been going here since I was a little girl. No joke- since I’m maybe 3 or 4 years old. They have always been nothing short of amazing. The owners are kind and patient. Their food is top notch. Since I have become vegan in the last few years I have still been able to enjoy some favorites such as bourekas, dried fruits, nuts, and seeds etc. Ask the employees for your help and let them know you’re vegan- you won’t be disappointed!
Read moreThey are a (dairy) kosher place, which means there is no meat inside of the store at all. Which is great because that’s one less thing to worry about. So non vegan items would contain fish, eggs, dairy, and or honey (primarily pescatarian as long as no gelatin is present). Fish and fish derived gelatin are not considered a “meat” for kosher.
There is street parking right in front, but also a lot on the right (to the right of the little mall strip).
Also since they are kosher be aware they aren’t open on Friday nights or Saturdays. Might be best to call before going if you’re traveling far!
