Very expensive, not many options - Edit
The bruschetta was lacking flavour. The avocado fries were deliciously seasoned, however at AUD$17 are way too expensive.
Read moreThere really aren't many vegan options, like most Mexican omni places.
The prices are too expensive for the portions, it's definitely a spot geared towards tourists.
It has a really nice ambience and soft lighting in an upstairs location.
Came back couple nights later out of neccesity, the Pina Colada mocktail was unbearably sweet, could detect the undissolved sugar.
The off-menu pomodoro vegetable pasta was fine.

Fab place, fab food - Edit
Restaurant is at a new address. Tried to update but it wouldn't work. Calle 16, Plaza Ukana 1 Building D, High Floor, 77780 Akumal, Q.R.
Read moreThey don't have a whole lot of vegan options but what they do have is delicious. They did me a special pasta not on the menu with vegan white wine and garlic sauce, mushrooms and pine nuts and it was probably the best pasta dish I've ever had. Also has a tomato pasta dish, as well as bruschetta and green salad.
I would definitely go her again if I'd been staying in akumal longer.
Pros: Gorgeous aesthetic , Delicious food , Lovely staff
Cons: Not a whole lot of vegan options , Somewhat expensive

Absolutely AMAZING!!!!!! - Edit
The only reason I couldn’t give a 5 start review here, is only because this place is not 100% vegan. They do have super delicious Vegan and Veggie options😄
Read moreIm gonna be very honest here,
I live in this region, I go up and down the Riviera Maya 3 to 4 times per week, from Playa del Carmen down to Tulum. This Restaurant is in my top 3, no doubt!. I’m so happy every time I go there. I’m always thinking when I’m going to go again.
Elda and her staff are very very special people, they are so profesional and all the same time they are so friendly and respectful. They’re always with a big smile and feeling so happy to host you. Food is sooooo good. For me is No.1 pizzas and pastas around here, they are absolutely incredible, everything on the menu is sooo delicious. Also fantastic drinks, they have excellent wine, very good drinks/mixology, really good beer and their Aperol Spritz and their Mezcal Mule are definitely one of a kind.
It’s just a hidden jewel for my family and I.
By the way, before I’m writing this, I have been in this restaurant at least 15 times. With this, I can tell you, every single word of this review is 100% verified.

Very helpful, prompt response - Edit
I contacted Taverna ahead of a vacation. Knowing I needed some vegan options, and not wanting to navigate the Spanish explanation in the moment. Elda responded quickly letting me know their spaghetti does not have eggs. She suggested the white wine and garlic sauce or pomodoro. I ordered the white wine and garlic sauce with vegetables. This was special order but they didn’t bat an eye. Wonderful service and they took great care of another member of our party with allergies. They also have a salad option of course, and other options easily made vegetarian. Husband had the cheese ravioli (vegetarian) and was very pleased with them.
Read moreOptions are limited, but if you’re spending a week in Akumal without a car, the restaurant choice is a bit limited. Taverna is a wonderful restaurant for omnis, and made dining there an option for me. Would love it if they’d create a few intentional options and mark them on the menu.
Pros: Accommodating staff, Nice open air under palapa, Excellent food
Cons: Absolutely NOT accessible for elders (many stairs, Limited options
