Ask for the vegan menu - Edit
They have a vegan menu that is really great. Ask for it from the hostess when you arrive. It’s condenses all the vegan options on one menu so you don’t miss anything. Lots of options. Prices reasonable for vegan food. Service is always outstanding. Friendly staff very attentive without being annoying. Nice repaint dinner with my family.

Great spot in Duluth - Edit
We tried the ancient grain tacos and had the pesto pasta, we added the steak bites on top of the pasta and it was really good. Definitely will come back again!

It was ok - Edit
I got the BLT. Unfortunately there was Dijon mustard on it instead of vegan mayo. The the mustard overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients, so all I really tasted was the mustard.
Read moreI tried a bite of the ancient grains bowl (minus the Sriracha) and it did have a nice slightly grilled flavor.
Pros: Atmosphere
Cons: Light and slow service , Slow to seat you.

Great atmosphere - Edit
Love the atmosphere of this place! Haven’t had a chance to try the patio, but it seems really nice. Great staff. Unfortunately not one item on both the gf & vegan menus. Last time the waiter was very helpful and had a dish revised for me.

Nice vegan menu - Edit
They do have a separate vegan menu. The spiralized butternut squash was good and had a kick to it.

Variety of okay options - Edit
Tavern on the Hill has an entire vegan menu, which is awesome! I cannot speak to everything on the menu, but...
Read moreThe spiralized butternut squash bowl is pretty tasty (recommended), but the vegan BLT and the vegan "steak" bites (seitan) leave something to be desired. The steak bites were HEAVILY salted and literally came on a plate with celery sticks and nothing else (the best way to describe this was a lazy attempt at a "fancy" vegan meal). This is tough, because I appreciate the effort in vegan inclusivity, but unfortunately the food ultimately falls pretty flat😡
Pros: Has an entire vegan menu
Cons: Lackluster taste, Too salty, Meal felt incomplete

Options - Edit
While this isn’t my personal go to restaurant in Duluth, they do have options that are constantly evolving. Here was the menu for last night. We told the server to let the cooks know the seitan was amazing, and we really appreciate them adding back more vegan options. It’s been hit or miss over the years but I still like to check in, have a beer, and see what they have available, as it’s a good place to bring out of town visitors who prefer an American style pub/restaurant.

Could use some easy improvements - Edit
I like that there's a separate menu. However, the choices are just not very interesting. The jackfruit BBQ sandwich is just fine. The ancient grain bowl is fine but boring. It really just needs a sauce or dressing because it is rather bland.

Vegan menu needs improvement - Edit
We ordered an avocado appetizer that I was told was vegan. It was mostly, but came with a dairy sauce, so that was a bummer.
Read moreI ordered the squash bowl and it was so spicy that I had to send it back! If you like spice, you’d like it!
I then ordered the pesto noodles and it was so bland I couldn’t eat it, I paid and left.
I was super unimpressed! I think there are some simple ways they could really improve their vegan menu!
1. Add a vegan aioli or sauce to add to the burger and the avocado appetizer!
2. More flavor to the pesto dish, maybe more garlic? Some vegan parm? Or maybe try a vegan mac and cheese instead.
I gave 2 stars because I appreciate any restaurant that has a separate vegan menu!
I just personally wouldn’t go back here, unless they significantly change the vegan menu.
Pros: Separate vegan menu
Cons: No vegan sauces for burgers and apps

Good family option for vegans and meat eaters - Edit
This is a Regular stop for me with my family. I enjoy the squash bowl. Note it is a bIt spicy. I order the avocado salad sometimes as well. They have a hearty bean burger on the menu which I know the patty is vegan but it’s not on their vegan menu, most likely due to the bun but I haven’t asked. It would be awesome if they would adapt items like that to expand the vegan menu. They have dishes like Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and a rice bowl that I would love to order...would be simple to veganize or note upon request. I always ask for the vegan menu so they know we are using it but they often have to hunt it down, apparently they don’t have many.

Great Option - Edit
They had a spiralized butternut squash dish with a spicy peanut sauce that was delicious! I practically licked the bowl. Definitely a good option for casual or a little dressy.

Separate vegan menu - Edit
Although I loved the fact there was a separate vegan menu, there were only 3 options. The first menu item was fried avocados, which were amazing! I would definitely recommend as an appetizer. My entire table (only I am vegan) loved them! The second option was a salad which I did not get. And the third was a butternut squash noodle dish which I got. The flavor was really good, but I did not love the dish. I would still go back and eat there again, but in my opinion, not my favorite restaurant for vegan food in Duluth. Props for having vegan options though!

Better than you'd expect - Edit
I've been here several times with friends and it's a great place to meet up with people. I've never had a problem finding something to eat here and the staff is very accommodating and friendly, but I wouldn't seek this place out if you're looking for a large variety of vegan options.

sufficient for being the only Duluth option after 10 - Edit
Two or three veg-options in the menu. The "vegan menu" was very limited, and basically just had a few items off the regular menu minus a few things. I ordered a squash pasta dish, and the server brought it out with croquettes on it. Then said, "oh, you ordered it vegan, didn't you?" and took it back to the kitchen while my friends began eating. When the server returned 5 minutes later it was the same dish minus the croquettes. I could have just taken them off myself.

Cons: limited vegan options, poor veg-consciousness
