Not vegan

We asked what was vegan or could be made vegan before ordering and were told several dishes were options; I ordered the yuba udon and my friend got the mushroom pasta. The udon definitely had dashi in it; it smelt and tasted incredibly fishy. The mushroom pasta also had a creamy base, and after there was dashi in my udon we aren’t sure the pasta was vegan either. Sadly do not recommend Taro as they don’t understand what makes something vegan.

Cons: Not vegan

Menu not labeled

I went there because I read the comments and they said that the menu was labeled as vegan and they knew about that.

Right now the menu is not labeled and there is just one dish vegan, I ate pasta with mushrooms, it was not bad.

Cons: Few options

Limited but tasty vegan options

They have pretty limited vegan options here for dinner - a few salads, fries, and I think the chef said he could make the rice pilaf without butter. That said the salad I got was so good and the vegan/vegetarian options were clearly labeled on the menu. When I said I was vegan the chef came out and we used our translator apps on our phone to figure out what I could eat so he was very helpful. Be warned if you are strict that I’m pretty sure they consider dashi to be vegetarian (which I think is common throughout Japan) - I asked if the vegetable udon could be made vegan, and they said no because it has dashi in it, but it was labeled as vegetarian on the menu. There isn’t much to eat out here so I was happy with it for the area.

Pros: Top tier salad, Inexpensive, Helpful staff/menu

Cons: Limited options

Cozy little restaurant

Really nice atmosphere, super friendly English-speaking staff who will accommodate dietary needs upon request. Delicious food! Japanese and Western style food.
