Amazing Gazpacho - Edit
We absolutely loved the Gazpacho! So flavorful. The best Gazpacho we’ve ever had in the US. As mains we had the Vegan Grilled Cheese (tasty!) and the Grilled Pita (ordered without cheese) with massala chickpeas which was very good as well.

Amazing food! - Edit
We went here twice in one week because we both loved the food so much. My husband is not a vegan and was happy with his food. But enough about him LOL.
Read moreI am sure that their other vegan options are great but I am OBSESSED with their vegan grilled cheese. So delicious and so many flavors at once! It comes with chips but you can substitute for tater tots. I got the tots the second time (they were out my first time), and they were very good.
I also get the green salad because I like to have a salad with everything. It's a sweet cider vinaigrette and a very good salad.
Pros: Several vegan items to choose from
Cons: Very busy restaurant! Get there early!

Delicious - Edit
I’m vegan and opted for the pita without feta and the grilled romaine salad. Both were absolutely divine! The garlic sauce in the pita is VERY strong, however. Maybe get on the side. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. I would go back!

Taproot TC - Edit
We ate at Taproot during our stay in TC. The hummus came with fresh, crispy veggies, but the hummus itself was pretty flavourless. The guac was delicious, but the portion was kind of small. I had the mushroom pizza which was very good! I don’t particularly care for Daiya mozz, but it was better than not having cheese like many establishments. The cider flight was great as well, with 4 oz pours that I felt were adequate and allowed me to sample before I decided on a glass. All in all, a good experience. I’d like to see a few more vegan options, but I understand their menu changes frequently and I may have caught it during a leaner spell.

Yum to the yum! - Edit
Very amazing! The whole atmosphere is quite beautiful and the food is so delicious. I had the mac and cheese which was so amazing. I also had guacamole which was the best guacamole I’ve ever had hands down. They had very nice staff and it was slightly on the expensive side but it was quite worth it.

Updated Review: Good food. High price. - Edit
Updated review October 2019:
Read moreYogi Bowl with Baked Tofu!
This was my second visit to Taproot. My first visit about 2 yrs ago was not great - read below.
Tonight, after reading new reviews and trying desperately to find a good vegan and gluten free meal, I decided to try again.
I was not let down this time. Food was great. Flavors on point. Service was also good. If it weren't for the price ($22 - $17 for the bowl, $5 for the tofu) I would eat this all the time! I understand that buying high quality products are expensive but $22 was high for rice, chick peas, kale and tofu.
First review January 2018:
I was SO looking forward to this establishment! A place that is great for people that are gluten free AND also vegan!! It sounded too good to be true. I ordered a flight of cider ~ They were all ok but it was a very small flight. Usually you get a decent amount to taste, this was about a shot and it was expensive. Then we ordered a gluten free/vegan pizza and the vegan black bean burger. Both items were described as fresh and "house made". But both items were frozen and had clearly been a bulk purchased item. Not that those are always bad but when something is described as fresh and house made, I am expecting a GREAT item.
Food/drinks were sub par. Staff was not polite. The bartender/greeter was drinking at the bar. The waitress was too busy to bother with us much ~ although there was only us and another couple present. The evening was costly and not so great. We will not return.
Pros: Vegan options
Cons: Expensive
Taproot
Nothing that is served at Taproot is frozen or from a box. In fact there is an executive baker and chef on hand that make everything from scratch. We use local & organic ingredients and support our farmers year round. We have a reputation for a great Black Bean burger and have regulars that come back for our house-made GF pizzas. Our cider pours are 3oz each and a total of 12oz with a chance to try 4 of 17 local ciders on draft. We are a small business supporting numerous farmers and MI businesses and care about the health of the environment and community.
Read moreThe staff on the hand is another issue, I have high expectations for service and anything less then great service is not ok. I apologies for your experience and a staff member drinking on the job is completely unacceptable and grounds for termination. I would like a chance to have you back for a better experience, please email me at taproottc@gmail.com to discuss further how I can make this up to you.

Menu has improved - Edit
The menu has improved since the listing was made. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options, including cauliflower wings as an appetizer and vegan grilled cheese or veggie tacos as mains. Everything was great and the service was top-notch.

Solid spot in a limited city for vegans... - Edit
Thought I would have an issue here. But, was SO GLAD I went here. Vegan grilled cheese is bangin good. The carrot soup was vegan as well. The black bean burger bun was not vegan, but they swapped it out for vegan sandwich bread. Flavor and vibe is great!
