Was it good? Kinda. Was it way overpriced? Definitely.

Explosion of flavor - Edit
This place was delicious. I ordered delivery to my hotel so no pics, but I got the aloo matar, roti with added garlic, and vegetable samosas. Everything was so flavorful and fresh. The manager was very kind in explaining what was vegan and what wasn’t. If you love Indian food like I do, you will fall in love

Great indian food in oldtown Scottsdale - Edit
Had the curry and mushroom bhaji. Both are delicious. Naan is not vegan, but ask for roti. Separate vegan section with several options.

6 stars vegan - Edit
It makes me so happy to see a restaurant with a large built in vegan menu. I ordered the Alo Chole which had chickpeas and potatoes in a tomato gravy. You will also have to add naan and rice as it does not come with it. I randomly picked it from the 10 item vegan menu and I’m still in awe at how good it was. I could probably drive back right now and order it again to go. The flavor was so well done I don’t think I could even make something this good myself. The naan was very good and seemed almost to be cooked over flame of some sort. Very crispy. I did not finish my portion as I was stuffed and I had even split my rice with someone so I think good portion size. Honestly was so good I do want to try the other 9 vegan items. I think next I will try the Aloo Matter which looks similar but has peas instead of chickpeas which also sounds good. I had to pick a restaurant for a work meeting and thanks to HappyCow for helping me find this place.

Great choice! - Edit
What a lovely place. I really enjoyed it. It has wonderful ambiance and an entire page of the menu that is veg. A full half page for vegetarian and a half page for vegan. They had many vegan options I’ve never seen at other Indian restaurants. Many of the appetizers can also be vegan and then the roti for bread. I will be back!

Decent Indian Food - Edit
I had the vegan veggie curry which was decent. The portions were a bit on the smaller size. I had asked for spicy, although it was spicy, it was not as hot as I would have liked. The atmosphere was okay, despite the fact that it was empty inside due to COVID-19.. They had a good amount of vegan options available.

The best in town! - Edit
I have been coming here for many years, and I have to say this place is the best in town! If you are looking for authentic Indian Cuisine, an amazing staff and a warm atmosphere, you definitely have to come to the Taj Mahal. The portions are huge and the price is right. I couldn't ask for anything more. The owner is always there with his dedicated staff and he is an awesome guy to chat with too!

Great vegan section - Edit
Wonderful designated vegan section on the menu. I had the Aloo Saag and thought it was very good when paired with the roti. Medium spicy was still relatively mild, which I appreciated. I thought it was seasoned very well with a nice, subtle cinnamon flavor. The server was kind enough to point out that the naan is not vegan when she saw we ordered entrees from the vegan section. The roti is vegan though and it was wonderful! Also, I’ve never seen such a generous serving of basmati rice. I will definitely be back.

Not the Best... - Edit
As an appetizer, I got the Vegetarian Platter: Onion Bhaji, Veggie Pakora, & 2 Vegetable Samosas - $12. I really enjoyed the Onion Bhaji & Veggie Pakora; both were perfectly seasoned and delicious. The Vegetable Samosas were good, but I wasn't a fan of their tamarind sauce, at all. It was way too tart and had no hint of the sweetness that I like in my tamarind sauces.
Read moreMy main entree was the vegan Aloo Saag -$14, which I ordered spicy/hot. It was ok, but it was too dry and it had zero spice. I have had delicious vegan Aloo Saag at other restaurants, so they cannot use the excuse that the lack of cream is the culprit. I have no idea where the spice went, but none of it went into my dish. I was very disappointed, and it was certainly not worth $14.
I was told that the only vegan bread options were the roti and the Aloo Pratha. I don't like roti so I got the Aloo Pratha -$5. The bread was hard (too difficult to cut) and not tasty.
I had issues with their cleanliness. When we arrived at the dinner opening time, we were the first ones there. The benches had not been cleaned or wiped down from the lunch crowd (which was about 3 hours earlier). I had to ask the waiter to wipe the seats. Also, there was some sort of food in my water glass. I had to ask for a new glass. Lastly, I saw a guy get hired immediately after about a 2 minute interview, which was cool. It was not cool to see him immediately start waiting tables and he was holding one tables' water glasses against his shirt! I think the manager said something because the new guy then placed the already tainted glasses on a tray.
The prices were too high for the quality (of food & service) and amount of food that you get. It is unlikely that I will re-visit.
Cons: if you like spice, you'll be disappointed, over-cooked & overpriced, sanitation concerns
