Good basic Indian menu, vegan naan.

Best Indian food in Schenectady with very friendly owner and staff. In an odd church basement—spacious, but unusual. People there are vegan-knowledgeable, and I was able to get them to stop using yogurt for their naan, so if ordered without butter it is now vegan! I don’t really know of any other Indian spots in the 518 that has vegan naan.

Pros: Friendly owner who knows what’s vegan, Vegan naan

Cons: Strange location

Food is ok, ambiance is super weird

Takeout from here is...fine. The food is not bad, not great, but gets the job done — but did feel a bit expensive for what it was. I did appreciate the labeled vegan options (a relatively rarity in Schenectady), and the vegan naan, so that’s a plus.

I definitely would not recommend *going* here to eat, though. It’s in the basement and former rec center of a huge church, and it has not really been renovated at all to seem like a restaurant. Literally looks like they took some (cheap, mismatched) tables and chairs, threw them randomly about the space, and called it a day.

Pros: Several labeled vegan options

Cons: In an unmodified rec center

Good number of options for vegans

We got take out so can't speak to the atmosphere of the restaurant, but the menu online labels items that are, or can be made, vegan. We got vegetable samosas, garlic naan, channa masala, and aloo gobi. The samosas were flavorful and crispy, the naan was probably my favorite as they didn't skimp on the garlic, and I loved the channa masala. The aloo gobi wasn't bad but was very plain, almost like it was just tomato sauce with no spice. I would definitely eat here again but just not order that dish. We ordered 3 samosas and they gave us 3 bags that each had 2 samosas in them (so 6 total), which was a pleasant surprise because I had thought they were overpriced at first. Food good for the price and for what it is, which in my opinion is like Indian fast food or buffet style food, nothing fancy.
