Serves meat, vegan options available. As with Indian restaurants, menu includes vegetable dishes. English spoken and on menu. Reached by taxi (give the driver the address). Open Mon-Sat 11:00am-10:00pm, Sun 5:00pm-10:00pm.
So great to be able to get a meal with spices and flavor in Sarajevo! Taj Mahal has some tasty dishes and they're pretty flexible about making vegetarian dishes vegan if you ask. There is a full veggie menu to choose from which is really nice.
Good vegetarian food, vegan options limited - Edit
We had a dal with cream and a veg dish cooked in ghee (clarified butter). The waiter was friendly and talkative. He says they can make food vegan, but it's not very tasty. (And I imagine would take some time, since the dishes we got seemed to be pre-made.) We've eaten a lot of Indian food in different places, including India, and the food here compared well. Since we aren't strict, we were fine with the options.
I had heard that it looked dodgy, but it seems to have been renovated-we shared a mixed vegetarian platter, two of the dishes were very yummy, the third (dal) was a bit bland. Great to have (relatively) many options!
Food is quite good, not the best indian but competantly prepared. The view from the outdoor seating is a bit depressing, with a half constructed concrete slab across the street blocking any view. The service is expedient, if a bit - eh- eastern european (We were able to elicit a smal smile, though...). It is absolutely worthwile the taxi trip you will have to make to find it.
If you're vegetarian you probably didn't come to Sarajevo for the food.. But if you fancy a change from Vegehana then this is the place. It's the only Indian restaurant in Bosnia so it's a relief that it's so good.
There is vegetarian section on the menu and it's all superb. Not too spicy and plenty of flavour. The chef is Nepalese so it's pretty authentic. I recommend the dal makhana (butter lentils) and the (not authentic, but shouldn't be resisted) finger chips.
It's a bit out of town so you'll need to note down the address and get a cab. Or you could call them and get them to deliver. The service is good and the staff speak English.
