Warm and filling - Edit
As mentioned, only the classic red bean is vegan, but it is so good! And incredibly filling. 4 people could split one as a small snack. Or one would be a light lunch. The waffle covering was perfectly crisp and the red bean just the right amount of sweet.

Vegan Takyaki Find - Edit
Taiyaki Hiiragi delivers on the anko 'red bean' taiyaki that Japan is simply known for. They are a small shop located on the first floor of a business building and not hard to miss.
Read moreWhen I went, they had just run out of taiyaki so I had to wait about 5 minutes. No problem though, because that meant I got the freshest batch of taiyaki and man, was it good.
The crispy exterior was perfect, the anko was piping hot with just enough sweetness, and each bite left me wanting more.
Bonus perk - the ones here are completely plant-based which means vegans can stop by and enjoy this delicacy.

Always have wanted to try one of these and finally got a chance to! It’s really delicious, the pastry part is cooked perfectly too.

Tasty and good value snack - Edit
While in Tokyo, we were looking for authentic Japanese food that's vegan. At Taiyaki Hiiragi we found delicious, and very hot, Taiyaki. We liked the taste of the not overly sweet red bean paste and the crispy shell.
Read moreOrdering was no problem with our very limited Japanese. They seem to be used to vegan tourists, are very friendly and the lady taking our order spoke English, so the whole ordering process went really smoothly. The price at currently (April 2024) 200¥ is more than fair, as one Taiyaki is a filling snack or breakfast.
Be aware that the Taiyaki is VERY hot!
We went on a Tuesday around 10:30 in the morning and there was no line.

Thin, crisp shell - Edit
The line outside the shop was quite long -- but so worth the wait. The shell was nice and crisp. The bean paste was hot and just the right amount of sweet.

Vegan Taiyaki - Edit
I had to try their red bean paste Taiyaki and it did not disappoint, not overly sweet with a crispy, warm, exterior shell. While traveling to Japan, I tried red bean paste for the first time. I'm used to savory beans so I wasn't sure if I would love a sweeter bean paste. I do enjoy it as a warmer filling as compared to colder but I was pleasantly surprised I enjoyed the taste.

Authentic recipe!😋 - Edit
Crispy and not fluffy like the ones with milk and egg. But I prefer this traditional vegan version.

So good! - Edit
The Taiyaki comes vegan - just skip the cream. It tastes incredible when it’s hot, and it’s affordable ¥200 p/u in April-23)

Great traditional treat - Edit
For 200Y per treat, this is such great value. It was a unique flavour that we thoroughly enjoyed. Would definitely suggest you try one if you're in the area. Would return if in the area for sure, but wouldn't cross town for it.

Taiyaki - Edit
C'est la première fois que je mange un Taiyaki alors je ne sais pas si celui-ci est particulièrement bon, mais j'ai trouvé ça délicieux. 200¥, c'est très croustillant, un peu sucré, je vous conseille vivement d'y faire un tour !!

Tasted good - Edit
However there were no indications that it's vegan. When I asked the staff, she didn't know what vegan is, but she did confirm that no animal products were used in the taiyaki. They don't seem to have a website or list of allergens to confirm..

The best Taiyaki in my life ! - Edit
Taiyaki here is 90% with soft and fluffy red bean paste and it warms up both your heart and body!
The skin is thin and crispy which is not traditional but it makes the Taiyaki here simple but individual.
I usually don’t eat Taiyaki since it’s often too sweet, but here is not very sweet and you’d feel sad when you finish yours! Definitely come back here soon!
Pros: Cheap 180 yen / pc, Fresh
Cons: No space to have a seat (there’s a park nearby)

Crispy, filling and delicious! - Edit
Absolutely delicious taiyaki! The batter is thin and crispy with a lovely, nutty flavour, and the filling is generous, chunky and not unbearably sweet. I was really surprised by how good it was, this is an expertly crafted taiyaki! I’d definitely recommend stopping by for a snack if you’re in Ebisu.
