Great udon - Edit
I had a soy milk dandan ramen and it was delicious. Nice rich broth.
Read moreHad koji on top which I didn’t see on the reference picture and I am not a fan of so be mindful of that.
Only complaint are that the udon were slightly overcooked and kept breaking apart when picking them up with chopsticks.
Pros: Great broth , Side of tofu for protein , Good portion for a fair price
Cons: Overcooked udon

Nice place & many vegan options - Edit
What a lovely place! The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance, and the staff are not only friendly but also speak excellent English. There are plenty of vegan options available, and many of the dishes can be made vegan upon request.
Read moreWe tried the sweet potato tempura, a salad, and the udon noodles with tofu, all of which were delicious! I did find it quite a challenge to eat the noodles with chopsticks, though. 😅
I would definitely recommend this spot! We arrived just after opening (around 5:30 PM), and by half-past, the place was fully booked with people waiting outside. It’s clearly a popular choice!

Best udon - Edit
Very clear vegan menu with different options for Udon. Even for their daily recommendations they listed the options that can be made vegan. Had the soy milk ramen: incredible!! We also had the mushroom tempura and the Japanese fried aubergine from their daily recommendations, both were delicious. Very nice restaurant and kind staff. Would definitely recommend to go here!!

Delicious vegan options - Edit
With the limited vegan options in Hiroshima, we liked Taiko Udon so much we went back the following night! The soy milk udon noodles were delicious, as were the tempura vegetables and mushrooms, tried on separate nights. The staff speak English, have English menus and special boards, and veganism is very clearly understood. Highly recommend!

Very good and unexpected taste - Edit
Really loved the vegan dandan noodles with soy milk. It was such an unexpected wonderful taste and combination of spices. Something I didn't taste before! I personally didn't like the sweet tofu that I ordered as a side dish.

Great Udon even better broth - Edit
Had the Udon in the soy milk miso broth. The broth was very creamy and full of umami. Every sip was better than the one before. The Udon were also great. Very long and slurpable ;). Toppings also did not dissapoint. You also get a tiny apron to slurp the Udon without worrying about your clothes!

Delicious udon!! - Edit
Half empty at 7.30 on a Friday night - no queue at all! Ordered vegan udon noodles and the veg tempura. Felt the tempura was overpriced (¥1400) given it was not big enough to be a main, but the udon noodles (same price) were amazing and I loved them. Staff were very friendly and spoke English well, explaining about English menu and providing a specials board in English as well. Recommend this place to anyone! 🍜

Quality Choice in Hiroshima - Edit
As I’m writing this I’ve been in Japan for two weeks, and I can count on one hand the number of restaurants I’ve found with a vegan menu - it’s not common here. So finding Taiko while in Hiroshima was a pleasant surprise. They have a vegan section of their menu, and many other items can be made vegan if you ask. The staff largely speaks English and they take credit cards (both things that make life a little easier for a traveler from the States).
