There’s a fantastic new completely vegan falafel joint five minutes’ walk up the road now.

once again you are shaming someone for going to to a vegetarian cafe. They did not ask for your recommendations. They are an adult, they can use the search function if they want to find a vegan falafel joint. They never asked you for an all vegan falafel establishment. They were leaving a review for Tahina so others can make an informed choice to go there.

Hey I’m an adult too, but you insist on telling me your opinion on my comments. I’m actually wondering whether you’re an adult.

Delicious felafel - Edit
It was another sunny day in winter so we decided to walk here. It was busy when we arrived and we wanted to sit in. The tables outside seemed to be busy so we opted for stools. Not as awkward as some stools thank goodness. We ordered the chocolate peanut butter cup smoothie. It was really thick but had a lovely flavour. I had the green felafel pita which was both filling and delicious. I liked the salad and felafel combination. My partner had the vegan carrot hot dog which he really enjoyed. We shared the baklava which was nice.

Scrumptious! - Edit
Had the sweet potato wedges and mushroom pita, only $23 for the two dishes, was plenty enough for my mum and I to share for lunch and absolutely scrumptious! Will be back to try more on the menu.

Not what it used to be - Edit
I find myself at a bit of a loss as I try to decide the worst part of my experience of this place.
Read moreThe service? I asked if there was a surcharge for cards, as o had cash, and the young counterhand replied ‘no’. When I pointed out the surcharge deducted, she merely grinned and walked away - no apology. After pointedly asking how much of a wait there was due to being in a hurry, tans they said 15 minutes - I then had ti request takeaway as it took almost half an hour.
The food? A spoonful each of iceberg and chopped cucumber in place of the numerous touted ‘salads’ and six miniature falafels drowned in tahini - disgusting, and certainly not worth the price.
The price? $18.50 for aforementioned half rate crap.
Would never bother wasting my time, money or appetite on this shabby establishment again.

Such healthy feel good food. - Edit
I order Tahina regularly, their Monkey Salad is my absolute favourite. Get the Amba and Zoug sauces too, they compliment the food sooo well. The caulliflower Papiot is also delicious, as is the sweet potato wedges and the roasted potatoes.
Read moreGrab some of the baklava if you're there too, it's vegan and absolutely delish!
If you are ordering for two they do a good date night for two which has a bit of everything in it, and my other half has had the carrot hot dog before and really rated it.
Pros: Lots of vegan options! , Great tasting, and authentic. , Good value

Vegan carrot hotdog is amazing - Edit
Wauw! The vegan carrot hotdog really exceeded all my expectations. It was so good I didn't want it to stop. Tahina is a really nice little cafe with reasonably priced dishes. Not much space to sit around, more for a quick snack or an easy lunch.

Meat free - Edit
Great to see a menu with no meat or fish on it, would love to see it entirely vegan. Ordered the red falafel, despite reading the bad reviews about the falafel we loved them. The cauliflower dish was good, but the hummus/tahini was was quite strong in taste (more tahini than chickpeas). The roast aubergine dish was delicious. The seating made it a bit tricky to share as we were sat side by side on stools, definitely a place to grab a quick bite at and leave, but there are a couple of tables and chairs on the pavement. I'd definitely go back to order some of the other interesting options on menu. Price was pretty good we thought.

Tasty - Edit
Enjoyed the carrot hot dog very much; the spicy sauce works very well. The roasted cauliflower dish was also a good choice. The falafels were under cooked again unfortunately.

A mostly enjoyable falafel salad; the falafels were possibly a touch under-cooked but the salad itself was very fresh and flavoursome. I would be interested in trying their other sides on another visit.

Best food ever! - Edit
Literally the most amazing food ! However not very gut friendly (much garlic & oil & tahini). Most amazing warm pitas. Very very limited (and uncomfortable) seating , much more of a “take out” place. My fave food in Melbourne I reckon

Tiny but delicious - Edit
This place has some of the best vegan food in Melbourne. Most dishes are vegan or can be easily veganised. I usually go for the Lutsi - and if I have room, the chocolate soufflé with fairy floss. If you ever see a free table, grab it. Otherwise get takeaway. It is 'street food', after all!
Read moreHaving said that, a bigger space with more tables would be excellent, because I could take family and friends to eat there for a proper meal. I know that even the omnivores would love it!
Pros: Tasty, healthy food
Cons: Can rarely get a seat

Heaven is a Tahina pita - Edit
My first experience of vegan food in Melbourne and not a disappointment! Very busy and not designed for customers to linger, but that's true to the nature of street food places. Think old time burger bar, with stools at a long counter, you eat and go and you pretty much have it.
Read moreI chose the green falafel pita pocket and my omni partner went with the red shakshuka. Talk about amazing! Absolutely loved every part of this. The pita was thick and pillowy, nothing like supermarket versions and the amount of food! Definitely filling! My partner enjoyed his meal as well.
I made the mistake of ordering a vegan chocolate souffle when I ordered my meal and by the time I finished I didn't know where I'd find room for dessert - but when it came, I quickly found room. Though a small dessert, it's packed with rich, gooey chocolatey goodness. Definitely not something to miss.
This would be the perfect place for a group to grab a meal then head to a nearby park for a relaxed, shared picnic.
Pros: Volume of food, Delicious, The chocolate souffle!
Cons: Not suitable for group dining

sumptuous - Edit
Popped in for a takeaway pita. The staff member who took my order was pretty aloof and I didn't feel particularly comfortable, tbh. Oh well. I ordered the Sabbich and asked for the egg to be replaced with cauliflower. The guy that cooked my pita was friendly and the food was delicious so I soon forgot the surly waitress. Soft, fresh pita; tart pickled cabbage; silky, deep-fried eggplant; cauliflower so deliciously crispy at the edges; hearty, almost gritty (in a good way) hummus. Delicious! Can't wait to try more.
