Serves meat, vegan options available. Small Mexican restaurant offering vegan pastor tacos and sides. Previously at 411 2 Ave S, opened here Apr 2019. Open Tue-Sat 11:30am-9:00pm, Sun 11:30am-8:00pm.
Closed Mon.
I've been visiting this restaurant on and off for 3 years now but don't think I'll return. They advertise their products as vegan and after I complained about the fact they regularly put animal products in items I order as vegan, they reassured me this would not happen again and deleted my comment. For whatever reason I believe them and ordered tlacoyos made vegan and vegan tacos. the tlacoyos came with cheese and the tacos came with their guacamole(which has milk) really disappointed they still haven't bothered to clarify what vegan means their employees. they also banned me from their facebook page after I commented about it. they also don't mention anywhere that their guacamole contains milk which is really disingenuous
I appreciate that they have explicitly marked vegan options. The vegan Tofu Pastor Tacos tasted good but nothing stood out (the omni dishes I'm told are much better quality); $9.50 for 3 tacos consisting of seasoned tofu, onions and cilantro is a bit much. The Refried Beans ($2.60) were decent. The Rice with Vegetables ($2.60) is gross: I absolutely abhor dishes made with a frozen vegetable mix (carrots, peas, corn and green beans)-- this has been a pet peeve of mine with skimpy Indian restaurants but this was a first from a Mexican restaurant.
I want to note that there seems to be some confusion about vegan options. When we were ordering, we inquired about the "vegan cheese" listed on the menu she (one of the owners) didn't know what we were talking about she asked her husband he also didn't know and replied that the 'vegan option is tofu, not cheese'. When we pointed to the "vegan cheese" listed on the menu she didn't know what it was and asked her husband (again) but he didn't know what we were talking about. (Afterwards, I was told by a friend that the vegan cheese was most likely included by the owners' children and that the parents didn't fully understand it). Second, after we explained that we were vegans, we were asked if we wanted guacamole (which my friend already new contains dairy), after clarifying that we don't eat dairy everything seemed to be understood; however, when we picked up our order she said she included guacamole (on the side) for us to try...
I tried the tofu tacos recently but they were rubbery and very greasy. Having enjoyed delicious Mexican food in other cities I expect better. I will give them another try though and maybe adjust my review.
My friend and I walked in to see what they had one day and were very pleasantly surprised by the options available. While the have omnivore options as well they do have a few vegetarian/vegan options too. Vegan options are available on request of no sour cream, cheese, etc. The doritos tosdadas with potato filling are fantastic and I suggest trying the aguas frescas (It is a sweet drink of water and pineapple, with some pulp). They had a couple of other options as well, including beans and rice and one other which i cannot currently remember. It is certainly a worth it place to go whether you are veg or not.
