Loved Surrey’s - Edit
Fresh, delicious, flavorful. Fresh squeezed juice was a highlight! Kind staff. Had oat milk available for my coffee as well. We’re looking forward to returning next time we visit NOLA.

Good options, good awareness - Edit
Diverse menu and lots of vegan opportunity. We had such a great meal for our first stop in New Orleans. I got the avocado pesto sandwich with tofu and a side salad, and it was excellent! Great casual breakfast/lunch spot. Lots of local art for sale all over the walls.

So delicious! - Edit
They have a few vegan options here, and our waitress said her favorite dish is by far the vegan avocado pesto sandwich, which was phenomenal! The staff were all sooo friendly and the service was super quick! Highly recommend!

Prepare for a wait - Edit
At least on the weekends. Surrey’s is very popular and for good reason. There are only a couple of vegan options, as noted in other posts, but the tofu and home fries are delicious.

Really cozy cafe with great food. Menu clearly labeled with vegan options. I had the avocado pesto sandwich with tofu and home fries. Everything was really tasty and filling. Local art work for sale hanging on the walls. I would definitely go back!

Great spot for breakfast - Edit
Most menu items can easily be made vegan by substituting tofu for eggs. I got the vegan migas with home fries and toast. Honestly, not what I pictured... buut delicious none the less!

Love this place! - Edit
Though there is often a short wait, it's worth it. The food is incredible and the staff are absolute pros. The perfect artsy diner setting with tasty vegan options. Try the roasted veggie omelet made with tofu and their juices.

worth the wait! - Edit
Thought this place was a hidden gem! Apparently not-the wait is always long but well worth it! For my family love a place that has meat but great veg options for me- my husband travels for a living and has had many shrimp and grits, claims these are the best he’s ever had! Staff is awesome and you can check out the charming neighborhood while you wait!

Good Brunch Option - Edit
Vegan French toast is back on the menu, but I was in the mood for savory. Had the Vegan Migas - basically a tofu scramble with veggies, with potatoes and toast. It was good! Also decent coffee and soymilk to go with it. Decent prices. Nice to have a good breakfast/brunch option in this town!

Great juice, lovely staff, disappointing food - Edit
I went to Surrey's Café especially to try their Vegan French Toast, which I had read about in vegbaker's review (below). Disappointingly, they no longer make it. The waitress was kind and helpful and suggested the Tofu Breakfast Platter, and also said that any of the egg dishes could probably be substituted with tofu. I tried the Huevos Rancheros with tofu. It came out very quickly, but the beans were lukewarm and the tofu was not at it's best. Service was friendly, warm, and polite. The freshly-squeezed juice I had was delicious! One last negative...I was swatting away fruit flies whilst eating - not particularly appetizing!

Vegan french toast! - Edit
I absolutely love the vegan French toast here! And the avocado pesto sandwich is delicious, you can add tofu, but it's filling without it as well. Cash only, but ATM right inside. You may have to wait in line, but there's one uptown and one in the Garden District if you get impatient!

Great for brunch in Garden District - Edit
Cute place with filling food. We had tofu platter (teriyaki style tofu strips with rice & veg), soup, hash browns (roasted potatoes), avocado mash (guacamole), and fresh squeezed orange-grapefruit-ginger juice. All excellent. They also have sandwiches & other vegan options.

Good - Edit
We went to the 4800 blk twice for breakfast. Good service, good food. One of the better meals we've had in NOLA thus far. Also- great coffee, not skimpy on the refills. I do wish they had more vegan options. Vegan pancakes would be nice.

In NOLA for a week; had breakfast there 3 times! - Edit
They have vegan pain perdu, a tofu dish, and vegan migas. I had the vegan migas twice-amazing. The third time I went, they had run out of tofu, so I had their potatoes (great), vegan black beans, and "avocado mash" (which is just guac, really). It's a cute place!

tofu scramble blew socks off - Edit
Tofu scramble is something I cook alot at home and am always delighted to see on a menu... in short, I've eaten more than my fair share of tofu scramble. At Surrey's the dish was amazing and original -- some delicious combination of savory and sweet that I did not expect, with a generous portion of tofu which is always welcome. It confused and delighted my taste buds and I completely devoured it without breathing very much :0).

Eh for Vegans - Edit
This place is a great breakfast place-unique, cozy and special. Vegetarians could fare pretty well here. Vegans, however, have limited options. 2 dishes-a Tofu Breakfast Platter and an Avocado Pesto Sandwich. Pretty sure their breads and usual pesto are not vegan. Want so much for this place to have more options-it's such a fun little place. Would love for vegan bread, pancakes, and regular pesto to be available. Earth Balance is easy to obtain and would be great to have on hand for vegans. Easier still is providing more vegan options-Whole Foods isn't too far away, y'all. For such an inventive place you'd think they could have more vegan dishes. Would give this place a LOT more business if they did but the 2 dishes can get old after awhile.
