not for vegans

the egg rolls, edamame, and yasai maki roll are your vegan options. i’ve had all three. the first two taste like you’d expect, but are fairly overpriced. the tofu-veggie roll is not good. they marinate the tofu in an extremely strong soy sauce/sesame oil mixture and it overpowers the other ingredients. plant-based eaters are not their target audience, and your order will reflect that. anyways, i would not choose to eat here again.

Vegan but not Gluten Friendly

Good Vegan dishes but watch out if you are Gluten Free. I have Celiac and ordered the stir fry veg with tofu. My body was not happy!

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Not Gluten Friendly

Very Tasty

This is my husband's favorite places. Before we moved from Birmingham we visited here often. The staff is always friendly and very helpful in getting a vegan meal.

Pros: Tasty, Helpful staff, usually no wait time

Cons: not a ton of options

the veg options they have are good but they don’t try to add extra, it’s asian.

If you want a wide range of vegan food from a place that’s gone the extra mile to help vegans out don’t go here, but if you want a really good veggie sushi role and and tofu this is your place.

Good Vegan Options

Surin is one of my fave places to eat in Birmingham! They have a variety of vegan options, and they're willing to customize things to meet allergy sufferers' needs, which not all places are. My favorite dish is the Pad See-U without egg and with tofu as the protein, but I also love the sweet and sour dish made with tofu, as well. My friends assure me that their sushi is amazing, also. I recently visited (after their renovation), and I have to say that it looks fantastic! The design is very sleek and modern, but without appearing stark and unwelcoming. I think it really opened the place up and gave it a very nice facelift. Protip: If you can't find parking, if you go around the corner from the restaurant and turn right, there's a small parking lot on your right that almost always has a spot.

Pros: Tasty Food, Cozy Atmosphere, No Reservations Needed

Cons: A Little Pricey

not for vegans

Almost all of their dishes are focused on the meat. They do have tofu, but the majority of the dishes contain eggs and I didn't even see any vegetarian sushi. This is a popular place for dates, so it is unfortunate.

Fix your Thai Craving

This place is billed as Thai food, but if you are used to great vegan Thai food, you will be very disappointed. They were able to do many of their stir fries w/o fish sauce and with tofu, but none of them tasted Thai. They were OK and were happy to have found it after not having any Asian food for a week.

Pros: tofu, good service

Cons: not like Thai

Excellent sushi and Thai!

This is one of my favorite restaurants. It is part of a multi-city small chain, and each one of the Surin restaurants I have been to have been equally good. The "super crunch" roll, which has salmon in it, is AMAZING. Their crab angels are also extremely good. They're definitely not your buffet-type crab rangoon, which generally doesn't have enough filling. The staff are always very helpful and the decor is very interesting. This is a great restaurant to go to for a night out with friends or a special occasion. It's a little pricey, but absolutely worth it. Also, they have amazing martinis, but they can be a little strong on occasion, so make sure if you're having a couple that you have a designated driver!

Pros: excellent food, friendly staff, great drinks

Cons: slightly expensive, especially drinks, long waits during peak hours, not a lot of parking nearby
