Not as good as it used to be - Edit
The greatest thing about this place was the vegan Peruvian Chickpea pancakes, served with arugula and fesh mango slices
Read morethey did a way with them and all they have now is a veggie platter ,,the same old giant chunks of yellow squash and zucchini and the eggplant slices were almost raw and inedible
not returning
Pros: great outside dining area
Cons: did away with bet item on menu, same old undercooked giant-squash chunks plate

Good vegan options - Edit
I went for a solo weekday lunch. Was still relatively busy and would not have gotten a seat if I was with a large group. I tried the chickpea burger and tofu scramble. The burger was very unique! The scramble was average.

Very good vegan breakfast option - Edit
Was pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the tofu scramble breakfast. Delicious scramble and potatoes. Only 2 options on the menu but happy they are catering to vegans at all. Good coffee too!

Such a great breakfast - Edit
I have been wanting to try this place for a while now, but they tend to be quite busy on the weekends. Today we were able to finally go, and right away, there is a Vegan section of the menu. I had the tofu scramble, and it was very, very flavorful and enjoyable.

this quaint diner style restaurant was so good! such a coincidence that it is owned by a hungarian family! (i am hungarian😄) the service was wonderful, we sat outside and were still served quickly! the interior is sweet too!

So good! - Edit
The breakfast was delicious! It’s hard to find really good breakfast options but this place hit the mark. The tofu scramble was exceptional. My husband got the oatmeal banana pancakes and loved them.
Read moreDay 2: we went back our second day of vacation because vegan breakfast is hard to come by. Just as good the second day! This time my husband got the chickpea pancakes and loved them even more than the oatmeal banana ones. I had a few bites and they were phenomenal!! I highly recommend this place! They also offer soy or almond milk for coffee which is very important for us as well!
Pros: Yummy vegan options , Soy milk and almond milk for coffee
Cons: Their music is a bit hardcore for mornings

We stumbled upon this nice cafe with outdoor seating (perfect in this COVID-19 era). The food is amazing, highly recommended! Chickpea pancakes are perfectly crispy/tender with mango salsa, arugula and fresh avocado. Heaven!

Delicious food, vegan options, good atmosphere. - Edit
I had the tofu scramble and it was delicious. It’s a great spot with mostly mainstream items, but they have some great vegan options. The place is clean and the service excellent. I really appreciate that they have vegan options. The only con was that the side that came with my tofu scramble was not vegan. I could have paid $1 extra for a vegan side, but it's the principle, a vegan dish should come with a vegan side.

Amazing Vegan Options - Edit
I lived in Sarasota when this place opened and never went until I visited the city five years after moving away, which I super regret. When my friend took me here I wasn't expecting anything much, as often the vegan options at places that are mostly non-veg are lackluster, but my chickpea pancakes and the tofu scramble my friend got were totally incredible. I'd never eaten anything like the savory chickpea pancakes, but the texture and flavors, and the mango relish on top were all top-notch, and the tofu scramble was also perfect. I was REALLY impressed with what I had and I know I'll go back when I visit Sarasota again.

So happy to find a restaurant in Florida that understands the meaning of Vegan, delicious breakfast, super friendly staff. I would give 5 stars if the app allowed but the restaurant has to be 100% veg. Thanks guys!

pleasant surprise! - Edit
The Sunnyside Cafe was quite the pleasant surprise during my stay in Sarasota. 3 vegan breakfast options and 4 main course meals that all sound amazing. I tried the vegan scramble and it was delicious! I will be back to try more of this Cafe's great menu. The only complaint I have is the poor grill ventilation. The smell of hot grease and cooking animal flesh may put off the more sensitive diners, vegan or carni.

We enjoyed the good food, but not the strong burning smell inside (they need better ventilation). I highly recommend that you eat outside and you’ll love it!!

Very cute and very delicious! - Edit
We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and found the outdoor seating to be very quant and intimate, even though the restaurant is located right on busy Tamiami Trial. Our waitress was new, but very friendly. My vegan chickpea burger was a little salty, but made with quality ingredients. The fries with veganaise to dip (plus I added sriracha!) were to die for! Our food came out quickly and was very tasty. Would definitely like to come back here for breakfast at some point.

My Favorite Vegan Breakfast in Sarasota - Edit
First, the decor and ambiance is really very lovely. The Cafe's logo misled me into thinking the interior would be below average, but I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of nice wood details, very simple but modern.
Read moreThere's three vegan breakfast options: Savory Chickpea Pancakes, Oatmeal Banana Pancakes, and Tofu Scramble. Three vegan lunches as well: Chickpea Burger on Pita, Vegan Chili, and Vegetable Platter.
I ordered the Chickpea Burger and my partner ordered the Chickpea Pancakes. In his words, "I can't decide which is better!" The burger would've been better if it had a top bun, too, but was super delicious.
Our waiter was also vegan, which was nice! Makes you feel really comfortable eating in a non-veg restaurant.
We cannot wait to come back and try the Vegan Chili and Tofu Scramble next! I've tried a bunch of other vegan restaurants for brunch but this is the one I will come back to most. Everything was delicious and well priced!

Pros: Variety of Clearly Marked Vegan Options, Nice Ambiance, Friendly Waitstaff

don't judge a book by its cover ... - Edit
So this place doesn't look like much on the outside (you sort of expect a typical diner with food that is probably not fresh), but I have been here now a few time and I really like it. It's a place non vegans like and several of my non vegan friends have actually gone for the vegan food options. As an example, the chickpea burger is not some generic vegan pattie from a freezer but seem to me freshly made.

Sunnyside Has Awesome Breakfast for Vegans - Edit
We had heard that new owners had updated the menu, so we went for the coveted vegan breakfast. The Savory Chickpea pancakes with a mango salsa and avocado is my new favorite. The banana pancakes are also really good if you like a sweet breakfast in the morning. They also had a tofu scramble that we have not tried yet as the chickpea pancakes are so good. They have fresh squeezed orange juice. They have a few options on their lunch menu too. Great little place along the north trail. Friendly, Informed staff make this a great little breakfast stop.
