Medium-sized shop carrying refrigerated and packaged products, as well as some local produce. Has tempeh and soy yogurt. Not far from city center, in pleasant local shopping area. A welcome find in non-veg area. Open Tue-Sat 11:00-16:00.
How is this shop allowed to operate?
They are anti-humans. I have been there a number of times and just accepted the rude behavior of owner of the shop - on the basis that maybe he has a personality disorder, or a history that has made him as he is.
However, this weekend I went with my brother (they have started opening the shop on Saturdays). The shop was empty and I rang the bell (they always keep the door shut and the sign asks /rules require you to ring for entry). The owner of the shop was the one managing the shop on the day. He said he would only allow one person at a time!!!! This is false because i have been there when they allowed 3 people. I feel he sometimes says one person at a time - because he is overwhelmed, scared or just being difficult - whichever I think they should just say, so we understand.
I don't know what up with the man./owner.
I have bought things where he refused to take the shopping bag i gave him. UI had to place it down first and then he took it.
His daughters whom i have met is more sociable.
I tired and often just accept how he is because i don't know what caused/causes him to be as he is. However i am very happy that other health shops have now opened in Eastbound - so there is a choice. Sorry Sunny but i wont be coming back
To the customer I was talking to about garlic in the shop, I feel your treatment from the owner was uncalled for, rude and unacceptable. I will not be going back, best wishes.
Unhappy folk work here. Useful experience if you want to test your compassion levels. Grape Tree in the Beacon shopping centre has some organic stuff as does Waitrose which is a bit of a walk. I have taken to shopping at Seasons in Lewes [Cliffe High Street] and Infinity in Brighton. The train ride is a pleasure [or bus for Brighton] and the selection of produce much better.
You aren’t allowed in the shop unless you ring a bell. When I did this the owner very reluctantly allowed me in but refused to let my partner in. He also yelled at me for picking an item up and looking at it (not that I should need to justify this, but I’m short-sighted). Truly hellish experience, presided over by the Basil Fawlty of health food shops. Avoid!
Sign on the door saying “No Browsers”, had to knock on the door to be let in. We were then told only one of us would be allowed to come in and shop. Me and my partner decided to not bother. No idea how a business like this is still going.
Don't bother going. Bizarre experience today. Went to the shop and couldn't open door but saw male owner and another lady inside. He came and answered door and Iasked if they were open. He said yes and Iwent in. He then asked me what I wanted. I wanted several particular items but also to have a look around and see what they had in so I said "Oh I'm just browsing". He said"Oh well we dont do browsing in this shop which is why the door is locked. I left!So a shop that doesn't like customers and obviously doesn't actually want to sell anything. Please dont waste your time going there. Plenty of other good health food shops around who actually would like your custom!
Horrible experience with the man who runs the shop. Next time when I need some stuff I'll take the train to Brighton for sure. How can you own a vegan shop and name it sunny foods with that attitude....
Everything we need for a plant based, eco-friendly life - Edit
We regularly go here for our vegan treats and certain staples. The prices are in line with other specialist health food shops in East Sussex as far as I can tell, and it's certainly cheaper than getting on a train to Brighton to stock up.
The selection of items isn’t that great. I went there to shop twice and both times the staff was extremely rude. The second time I was there a man was serving the shop and he was so rude to me I left in tears.
