Delicious Breakfast (til 3 !) - Edit
Absolutely lovely food. As a vegan to have so many choices of breakfast is a TREAT! I had the Highlander and it is scrumptious....they make a spicy and flavorful red pepper sauce over tempeh, tofu, peppers + onions. The place is relaxing and homey. Love the big windows. Super attentive staff.

Cozy with very generous portions - Edit
After the mixed reviews here, I was a bit worried that my friends would not like it, but both they and I were positively surprised! The food was (particularly in comparison to German old school vegetarian spots) flavourful and, given how overpriced Seattle is right now, served in generous portions! Above and beyond, we even got a free mixed salad, which was delicious and had a lemon tahini dressing that exceeded my expectations by far! Honestly, I think it's a lovely café for hungry vegetarians and vegans! (Yes, I would also prefer that it was all vegan, but I would prefer that for every restaurant, so...)

Great vegan options - Edit
The gingerbread pancakes (special) and southwest hash were amazing. The hash was a special on the board so I don’t remember exactly what it was called, but it had spinach, cheese, tempeh, crispy potatoes, and avocado.

A go to in Seattle - Edit
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle! The entire menu is vegan and vegetarian and I have never had a meal here I didn't enjoy. Their tahini dressing is one of the best and I can't go long without Sunlight 's tempeh tacos. Polenta lasagna and huevos rancheros are other faves of mine and my son loves their lemon poppyseed waffle. Staff are great and there is a small outdoor patio.

Craving breakfast - Edit
We had planned to dine at Portage Bay, but upon seeing the okay restaurant rating in the window and minimal vegan options on the menu, went across the street to Sunlight with a good rating. Restaurant has a laid back vibe, with kitchen visible. Service was good. We had the lemon poppy waffle, heuvos rancheros and the house chai tea. I found the waffle satisfying with a nice hint of lemon and plenty of poppy seeds. For the huevos we were offered it with either potatoes or black beans, and opted for the beans. The flavors of the salsa really popped and complemented the black beans on top of the tortillas. The tofu was on the side and was fried and seasoned nicely. We did not add any of the extras. I would order both again. Chai tea seemed weak and I think it was ginger that may have been too prominent for me. It’s street parking, which we typically find a spot, but tend to visit the area in off dining hours.

Lots of vegan options - Edit
We came here for brunch on a Saturday. It was busy, but we were seated after a short wait and service was quick and friendly. We loved how many vegan options there were, including baked goods! The Vegan Highlander was our favorite thing we ordered. The deluxe vegan huevos rancheros tasted really salty and I would not order again. Overall, I would come back here if I was in the area and try some different things.

warm, popular spot with OK food - Edit
I've been in Seattle a decade and never managed to drop by here, partly because it's close to (new-ish) Wayward location, and partly because these 70's veggie spots have a certain reputation: healthy but unexciting. On a weekend morning, the place was packed with people of all stripes: the people watching is one of the neater things about this place. It appeared to have a robust vegan dessert spread that I might have to come back for. I would not order the Huevos Picante again, which came with an enchilada sauce that tasted unlike any enchilada sauce I've had and quite a bit like pasta sauce, giving my leftovers a strange lasagne taste to them. The menu item reads: "Add guacamole +2.35 Substitute organic tofu +1.35 Vegan upon request." Since the wording of this menu item is ambiguous, it didn't occur to me that there would refer to a vegan charge instead of a subbing of organic for non-organic tofu.
Read moreFood took a very long time, which is absolutely fine by me given the current climate for labor. I do wish they would increase the size of their parsimonious coffee cups, since it takes a long time to get coffee and no one is on refill duty.
To their credit, they give you enough food for midday leftovers--something I didn't know I valued until places all over town started cutting portion sizes.

Best Tofu - Edit
I got the Vegan Highlander, which is just roasted tofu and tempeh in pepper sauce. And it is some of the best tofu I've ever had. Thin slices, really firm, great texture. The sauce was amazing too, just the right level of spicy.

Great food, but you'll wait for it - Edit
I've been here a few times for brunch and had the vegan waffle and some of the tofu dishes (or rather, egg dishes with tofu swapped in). The food is good, and I'd recommend this place to anyone... if they have time to spare. Every time, we've been seated quickly but they are incredibly slow to take our orders and prep the food. I had assumed that this was due to pandemic-related staffing shortages, but reviews on various sites indicate it's been the norm for years.

The vegan Highlander! On the brunch menu because that one includes potatoes.(Really good Tempeh.) The side of black beans goes good with this one. Add avocado and you won’t be sorry.

Cons: Wish it was all vegan

Creative artsy restaurant - Edit
This place has a lot of vibe, offering space for vibrant art and a big menu of vegetarian food which can be made vegan. The daily soup and salad was very tasty, the bread was nothing to talk about. But the sautéed tofu had everything to create a fantastic memory. Lovey staff, very lovely. The music today was very 80ties and too loud. Overall a good experience and I would be happy to try more dishes here.

It’s okay - Edit
This place was a fantastic option for vegan food back in the early 2000s when vegan food was still scarce. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure they haven’t changed their menu since then. On one hand, this is great! It has a lot of that old school veg restaurant charm (think lots of brown rice and sprouts) that I still love to see. On the other hand, it’s hard to get much more than that in terms of vegan options. Their tacos are great and brunch is pretty good, but I’d love more vegan dinner options. So many of the interesting options are loaded with cheese (seriously, why put Parmesan *in* the polenta?). Why is there an upcharge to swap the eggs with tofu?! This place could easily be 5 stars if it caught up with the times and catered to vegans a bit better, but for now it’s just okay.

I had the McKenna breakfast here. Servings are large which is great but the food was VERY SALTY even my girlfriend who’s addicted to salt struggled with it so that was a shame however the flavours of the food were still good if you can get through the salt.
