Expensive - Edit
Very pricey for very small portions. Everything i ordered was $50 for just me and i wasnt even full by the end of it. I went with 3 other friends and they felt the same. And the flavors were just average. Id rather go to doomies next mex. The portions are larger there and not as expensive. Similar flavors.

One of my new favorites - Edit
Finished a hike at Runyon Canyon and looked for lunch. This place was listed as vegan friendly. When I walked in and asked for vegan options they told me. All vegan.
Read moreI don't think you can go wrong here. There is something for everyone. I got the chikn burrito and loved every bite. I of course got the biggest size of horchata. And a couple, ok a few, of the super-delish churro donuts! Oh my goodness!
Staff was super friendly!
Pros: Mexican food, Lots of options, Churro donuts

Tasty Little Tacos - Edit
Happy that this place exists. A woman-owned and run business is the kind of business I like to support. Reasonably priced food, with the taco plate being only $8.75 to start. Can add different sauces and toppings, like pico de gallo, guac, and something called 'just frick me up guac'. Not really sure why it's called that. I think you're better off not getting fricked up tbh. The fillings were pretty tasty. I think Al Pastor was the best. The fresh corn tortillas really made all the difference. Fresh ingredients and bold flavours. Would recommend to others if you make it out to melrose.

Seriously amazing Mexican food - Edit
The food here is amazing and 100% vegan. There are a variety of options of mains, with a choice of proteins (mock meats, jackfruit etc.) that you can add to each one. Food came quickly and was delicious. As a non California native I found some of the menu confusing but the staff explained what everything was. The restaurant has a big sustainability focus which is great.

Expensive but so good! - Edit
Sugar Taco is definitely on the pricier side, but the food is really tasty and I didn’t feel like the price wasn’t justified. The horchata is so good, and if you bring back your jar, you can take a couple bucks off the next time you get it. The concha were a bit on the smaller side, but again, soo good! The interior is definitely very Instagram worthy.

Flavorsome Street Style Tacos - Edit
A welcomed addition to the burgeoning LA vegan Mexican food scene. Had the Al Pastor, Pollo, Carne Asada and Fish tacos. All on point. Could scale back on the saltiness a tad and up the temp on the salsa but otherwise definitely worth a go. Carnivores will enjoy too.

Yummy but not authentic - Edit
The food here is yummy although it is pretty expensive and doesn’t really taste authentic. No competition for the vegan Mexican pop ups we have in the area but still a nice place to stop by if you want somewhere to sit.

Worth it - Edit
Okay this was delicious. It’s a little pricey for what you get, but well worth it. I completely agree with another reviewer who mentioned the food was “light” and not oily, it seemed surprisingly healthy for how tasty it was. The tacos came on house made tortillas which I really liked. I recommend savoring every bite. I’ll have to come back for the churro bites!

Best vegan Mexican in LA - Edit
This place puts the other vegan Mexican joints to shame! Somehow their Mexican recipes came off light - so much Mexican food comes off just plain oily to me - a stomach ache. But absolutely “light” at Sugar Taco. Great chips, house cashew cheese was off the hook - even in quesadillas - I don’t like sweets, but I had a bite of their famous conchas and I can see what the fuss is about. The best things about ST are the colors and the commitment to plastic-free dining. No plastic to-go. No plastic water bottles. Just smart and heart. Priced for Melrose Ave rent because it wasn’t cheap. But the food is also high quality so consider your investment wise.
