Delicious Donuts

Sent these to someone and they said they were delicious!! Sugar Shack has a ton of fun vegan donut options, including cinnamon roll and Samoa (like the Girl Scout cookie).

Pros: Lots of delicious vegan options

Best vegan donuts ever!

I love this shop! They always have many vegan donut options to choose from. The donuts are super fluffy, honestly the best vegan donuts I've had! I used to drive two hours just for these donuts before I moved to Richmond :)

Five Stars for vegan options here! Majority of donuts are vegan!

All the yeast donuts have a vegan base! That means like 90% of the donuts on display the day we went were vegan - yay! The only yeast donuts that weren't vegan had non-vegan candy toppings.

I had the glazed bowtie, the marble, and the French toast (not all at once though, me no pig). They were all so, so good. All the donuts had clearly been made that day, because they tasted incredibly fresh). My husband had the salted caramel and loved it.

We drove almost 3 hours for a Richmond day trip and I stumbled upon Sugar Shack on Happy Cow while we were traveling around Richmond. It was, by far, the best thing I ate while in Richmond (which I find to be an excellent food city, overall).

It was a little easy to miss, it's on the corner of Lombardy and Leigh, and a little bit back from the street. There were a few open parking spots when we went but I could see parking being a bit tricky on a weekend day (we went on a weekday).

Pros: almost all yeast donuts are vegan, lots of fun flavors

Mandatory Munchies

I don’t visit RVA without the promise of stopping by Sugar Shack to get my fix! The doughnuts are on point and the selection is quite large. I always buy way more than I should responsibly eat, but you only live once (unless you’re Hindu) so I’m trying to make the best of this life 🥸

Pros: Huge selection, Pillow soft fresh pastries, Staff is always friendly

Yummy!

They have really good donuts and burgers! I wish they still carried their chicken sandwich and waffle fries, but they are still delicious

“Best donuts ever” -my mom

HappyCow won’t let me rate a non vegan place five stars lmaooo. This place was amazing tho. Basically half the donuts were vegan. Super fluffy. Highly recommend the French toast flavor (no trust me i was skeptical too). Staff was SUPER friendly and gave us free cake when they found out we were vegan and it was my dad’s birthday.

Yummy coffee too.

Parking available. Three minute drive from Black history and culture museum.

I’d give 5 stars if it were an option!

Let me start by saving you have to go here. There are a LOTTTTT of vegan options here. Like, at least half of the donut case is vegan. The coffees can be made with plant-based milks. But the donuts… let’s focus here. I’m talking the best apple fritter I’ve ever had (even in my non-vegan days). My boyfriend only recently went vegan and he also can attest to how no one would EVER know these are vegan. They’re the best donuts. Ever. I’m pretty sure they’re like… $1.89 each? $1.69? So it also isn’t something where a place puts the additional vegan charge we’re all familiar with. Which is awesome. Also, these are yeast donuts!!! No cake donuts, none of that nonsense. Also, the staff are really kind. This is overall just such a good place.

Pros: Majority vegan options, Best donuts ever, Really flavorful

Tons of vegan options

Lots of vegan donuts and they’re super yummy. They also have vegan breakfast sandwiches on biscuits. I was really excited to see breakfast options because I don’t see them a ton of places but not super impressed with the food😒I saw they have vegan hot dogs, burgers and chicken too and I’m looking forward to trying those. Order ahead to save time if ordering food other than donuts.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Can order ahead to save time

Cons: Kinda long wait for food unless you order ahead, Not very flavorful vegan sausage, egg or cheese.

Incredible

We ordered online twice and both times they were super fast and soooo delicious. We had the Samoa, chocolate glazed, Boston cream, cinnamon, plain glazed and a latte with oat milk. Donuts kept well overnight also. Will definitely be back!

Pros: Tons of vegan choices , OAT MILK, Reasonably priced

Not sure why the hate

Sugar shack has come a long way in just a couple years. When they first brought out some vegan options they were limited and not very well done. Now, nearly half the daily donut lineup is vegan and the prices are downright cheap compared to most other vegan donut options out there

Pros: Lots of vegan choices, Relatively low vegan tax, Consistency from location to location

Super average

The only thing I love about sugar shack is that it’s one of the only places that offers lots of vegan options. The donut dough is average AT BEST. They have cool toppings but that’s about it. I’m so so happy they’ve made all dough vegan now. So for that I owe them a huge thank you. But otherwise, the donuts aren’t amazing unless you eat them right when their hot.

Pros: Lots of vegan stuff, Cheap

Cons: Donut dough is not that good???

Best donuts in town

This is the original location and the flavor of the donuts are better here than any other location. The coffee is delicious as well.

Best donuts!

Always have a great selection of vegan donuts...but go early to get the best selection.

I tend to keep it simple with chocolate glaze but there are plenty of more adventurous options!

Fabulous vegan donuts!

We came to get vegan donuts and were not disappointed. More than half of their selection was vegan. We tried four varieties and they were all amazing. It might be helpful if the vegan options were labeled but the person behind the counter was very knowledgeable about which donuts were vegan and even suggested a strawberry glazed one that wasn't in the display case but was really tasty. This was especially fun for our kids because they don't often get sweet treats that are vegan when we're out and about.
