I have always ordered brown rice. Prices fluctate between $2.80 to $3.20 for brown rice and 2 dishes. Today is just 1 dish with brown rice and it is $3. The auntie begrudgingly gave me back $0.20 after I pointed out and enquired about $3 for just 1 dish.

My dishes are all on the lower shelf. The younger lady server was listening all the time and did not make any comment. To me, I am just reflecting objectively on what has happened. If this is an issue, then it has to be raised and corrected. If the auntie was ok in accepting when I raised the question, then no issue. But she wasn’t. I am not a Karen. If there is a prevailing issue whereby customers are charged different prices arbritarily, then the stall has to rectify the issue. Of course every stall has the right to charge whatever they want to and customers can choose to either accept or not buy from the stall anymore.

It is ok if you want to keep explaining for them. And the vegetables is only longbeans. We all can easily reference it any supermarkets. All I can say is my observations are from before CNY in January until now. I did not raise it up is to see if the issue is prevalent or just random. Unfortunately, it is a chronic issue. If there is an issue with pricing being random at will, then it should be fixed. I am not saying that they are not honest but rather can be more upfront about the pricing. There is also no indication of individual pricing which easily gives rise to such issues. I have been in this line before so I can say it definitely can be done. Supplies can rise in prices yes but any changes for the customer must also be reflected before implementing and not just at one’s own will. So any possible misunderstanding can be averted. But there is no indication so customers have no way to check and can only oay what they say.

I understand and is well aware of rising costs due to supplies costs. What I am raising is the fact that prices are arbitary charged. If 2 dishes are max $3.20, why would 1 dish be charged at $3? And as much as we are being compassionate to the hawkers, I am also raising this up for the benefit of the other customers who may be charged arbitary also. Are they not entitle as a paying customer to ensure a fair charge for their purchase? I am not against this stall. I have been accepting their arbitary charging for some time in order to observe and to be fair before I post. If the issue is rectified, good for all involved. I can even delete the post to remove the perceived negative publicity. The point is HappyCow is a platform for all to raise awareness be it positive or negative so everyone can improve.
