My favorite vegan place - Edit
This is the only place I go to when in Syracuse. The menu is full of delicious options and the specials always sound amazing! I always get a different milkshake when I go, and I've never been disappointed.

Stopped here on our way to Albany for a show, so many options it was hard to choose! Had the Tofurky club and it was amazing. Milkshakes are so decadent too! I’m from Rochester and I wish there was a location here!

Takeaway would take and hour and a half... - Edit
Yet if we dined in it would only take a half hour for our pizza order. Makes no sense to me. Driving through with the kids. Excited to try strong cafe due to their reputation. I hope they look at how they manage orders. For it to take that long when the employee said they were not busy....I now know to call hours in advance 🙄

Favorite restaurant in Syracuse - Edit
I eat at Strong Hearts every week and I am never disappointed. There are a ton of delicious milkshakes to choose from, all with names that pay tribute to social activists. There are food options for everyone, from salads to light sandwiches to hearty burgers. They serve the beyond burger here and it is one of my favorite things on the menu. The sides offered in the cooler are also delicious, especially the mac salad. Don't leave without treating yourself to a cupcake, slice of cake, or other vegan treat.

Cool spot and great food - Edit
Loved this place. Really cool environment and tons of great meat alternative options. They fly the vegan flag loud and proud, as evidenced by the stickers all over the walls, the flyers and brochures, and the apparel for sale — which is great for the cause, when combined with great food!

Always an experience - Edit
So in the early 19th century, Governor Dewitt Clinton heard about Strong Hearts Cafe . He was in Albany and he wanted to get to Syracuse as quickly as possible, which is probably the reason he built the Erie Canal.

We had the Cajun Seitan sandwich and the Chickn Salad sandwich. Both were great.
And if I had hair, I would dye it purple and blue and red so I would fit in better.

Best Vegan Place in Syracuse - Edit
Best place in Syracuse by far. I prefer this location over the one on the Hill because it has a sitting area and seems cozier. Food is consistently good. My favs are the BLT, portobello mushroom salad, and chicken salad sandwich. Always order on the stretch bread from Pastabilities! It’s amazing.

affordable delicious - Edit
The restaurant had a casual, bus your own dishes, university student vibe. The portions were generous and prices very good. Everything is vegan.
Read moreMy husband had a Ruben of seitan and sauerkraut served with a small side salad. He said it was very good.
My son was delighted that they served breakfast all day and loved his pancakes and his orange Julius milkshake. That was his first milkshake and he is now a true fan. My daughter and I couldn't decide what to order so we shared French toast and a TLT sandwich with pesto. Both were delicious. I am glad i shared the french toast because it would have been too much to have two sweet pieces. My daughter also loved her Bonnie Lee milkshake ($5).
The meal cost under $40 for the four of us and we had plenty of leftovers for the next day.
Update July 2018 We have been to Strong Hearts dozens of times over the years and they are consistently good. My husband rates their Reuben as the best he’s ever had and he’s eaten a lot of Reubens.
Their shakes are always amazing. My daughter loved her Rosa Parks shake and her PB&J french toast. My son loved his pancakes. I would rate my green tofu scramble as good. The quantities are always generous and the prices are less than $10 for almost everything
Pros: affordable, fast, good food

Great Sandwiches - Edit
I love sandwiches. Bread will eventually be the death of me, but until then I will continue to ravish Strong Hearts' sandwiches. Just about everything here is animal-free but my carnivore friends enjoy it so much they don't notice.

Lots of options! - Edit
It was hard to choose ONE thing to eat but that's definitely a pro not a con! We mistakenly used Google maps instead of Happy Cow and found out pizza was only served on Fridays and we had our mind set on pizza when we got their Sunday Eve. If we would've checked here first, we would have found that out before. We ordered the TLT, egg trick sandwich, and two milkshakes. All were delicious! I can't wait to go back!

Love this restaurant, because I don’t have to ask if it’s vegan or need to alter any menu items. Their milkshakes and cupcakes are delicious and everything I’ve gotten there has been good. Reasonable prices but can be really slow during peak hours.

Could be better - Edit
I ordered Green Tofu Scramble with a side of salad, and the presentation was nice. However, the scramble was very oily. The taste was good but all that oil! Really, it's unnecessary. All that greasiness left me with upset stomach afterwards.
Read moreI also tried their Cajun Seitan Sandwich. The bread was really tasty, but I was not a fan of seitan. I would not order it again. I would love to try their other sandwiches that are not imitating meat, and their milkshakes.

Great desserts, lovely lunch spot! - Edit
I LOVE Strong Hearts! The milkshakes are out of this world, and their cupcakes and whoopie pies are delicious!!
Read moreTheir menu is definitely more towards a breakfast/lunch spot than a dinner spot, as it consists mostly of breakfast foods, soup, salad, and sandwiches. I highly recommend their sandwich special caprese grilled cheese if they are running that special the day you go. I don't even like tomato but it was like heaven on earth!
TAKE NOTE though, Strong Hearts can get extremely busy at times, I high recommend calling and ordering ahead of time, as there will often be a 45 minute wait time during peak busy times.
Seek them out at the New York State Fair as well! They run exclusive milkshake flavors just for the fair, and will never let you go hungry due to lack of vegan options! That said, Strong Hearts is worth stopping in, any day, any time!
Pros: Amazing food, especially desserts, Friendly staff, Empowering atmosphere
Cons: Calling ahead is sometimes a necessity , Meter parking some days

Life Saver - Edit
After traveling for 4 days straight, and staying in hotels, THIS place breathed life back into me. One person can only live off of so many hotel fruit cup breakfasts before they start to go crazy. I got the French toast and it was delicious. They had a little grab and go fridge that I took advantage of because idk when the next time I'll find a truly vegan place to eat on the road! Even my nonvegan mother loved it.

This place is kind of hard to find from outside on the street but it is a wonderful hidden gem. They had heaps of coconut milk based milkshakes (I loved the chocolate peanutbutter one) and breakfast and lunch options. Also large cupcakes and treats. Highly recommend!

Wish I could have tried a different milkshake - Edit
I had a 400 mile drive from upstate New York to Long Island and decided to stop here to eat as it was about half way through my drive. I chose this place mainly because I was excited about the almost 50 flavors of milkshakes they had! However, when I get there I was extremely disappointed to learn that they were sold out of the ingredients and were only currently selling about 5 of the flavors. As a place that prides themselves on their milkshakes, you would think they would make sure they always had ingredients on hand.
Read moreDisappointed, I ordered the pumpkin oreo milkshake, one of the few they had available, along with spicy tofu scramble and french toast. My dad ordered the pancakes and the chocolate mint milkshake.
We were very impressed with the food. The spicy tofu scramble was the best tofu scramble I have ever had. The french toast was great in some ways and not so great in others. I thought the flavor was amazing, and the bread was super thick which I loved. However, the crust was very hard to cut into and to bite. I still enjoyed it as a whole though. My dad, who's not a vegan, really enjoyed the pancakes.
We didn't love the milkshakes. Don't get me wrong, the flavors were on point and the texture was great, but they weren't flavors that we would normally order had they had the rest of the flavors available at the time.
Many people around us ordered sandwiches that looked absolutely amazing. I almost ordered a sandwich to take with my on my long car ride, but I was so full from the great food that I couldn't even think about ordering more food in that moment. If I ever get to drive through Syracuse again, I will definitely come back and order one of those sandwiches, and hopefully get to try another milkshake!
Pros: Excellent food, Nice vibe
Cons: Ran out of milkshake flavors, Crust of bread was super hard

I am in Syrucuse with my significant other who is here on business and WOW! The food at this place is great!! I got myself a cajun seitan sandwich which comes with cheese (100% vegan) and chips. I love seitan and this has to be one of the best seitan dishes I've had so far.
Read moreWe came back for dinner and I got a chickpea salad sandwich (like the chickpea "tuna" salads) with dressed greens, cold brew coffee, and an amazing chocolate cherry cupcake (see pictures). Kudos, Strong Hearts!

This café is AMAZING. I usually get the Reuben sandwich when I go, and they use seitan which is an excellent imitation of roast beef (or whatever is usually on a Reuben sandwich). The cupcakes and milkshakes are also awesome. Also a plus: the menu is written in beautiful calligraphy :-)
