Great food

Food is good every time I have visited. One thing though, is that I felt ‘safer’ eating in the restaurant where the waiters were clued up whereas there was a couple issues the time I ate in the spa cafe area.

Pros: Lots of options, Best vegan options in Peebles

Beautifully presented supermarket food

Having visited many times before as a vegetarian I was looking forward to this visit, my first as a vegan, as they now have a wonderful vegan menu. I chose pate to start which turned out to be Granovita, presented in a ramekin with oat cakes and a lovely chutney. My main course was unavailable (as were lots of items on the menu) so I had gnocchi which was fairly bland. My pudding was the raspberry frangipani tart - the ones you can buy frozen in individual slices. Vegan breakfast was good, although no non dairy milk or butter and the bread is no longer from the local bakers but is supermarket and you have to toast it yourself. When it ran out it was wasn't replenished. I ordered the caprese salad from the vegan menu for lunch, but after I had eaten it (I have a lactose intolerance) it became obvious it was not vegan cheese. All in all I was disappointed as Stobo had such high standards before. They do have plenty of vegan options, just double check it is actually vegan, and don't expect the same quality as the meat menu.

Pros: Beautiful surroundings, Food beautifully presented

Cons: Being served dairy cheese in error, Supermarket food, Attitude of staff to vegans
